Mona's POV

I opened the envelope and brought out a single folded sheet. I unfolded it slowly and my eyes scanned the sheet in one glance.

There was only one sentence.

Don't trust everyone who smiles at you.

A chill ran through me. I read it again and again, trying to understand the meaning behind the words.

My brows slowly knitted together.

"What is this?"

My first thought wasn't fear. It was confusion. The maid had said Mr.Lawson asked for the envelope to be given to me but why would he send m

Gregor POVI closed the door behind me and looked around the room."Well."I dropped my bag beside the wardrobe and looked around again."This is definitely not home."The room Arthur had given me was beautiful. Too beautiful actually. It was also spacious and comfortable, but completely unfamiliar.A guest room.Of course.Apparently, after years of refusing to come home, I no longer had the right to complain about where they put me.I walked over to the window and pulled the curtains aside. The grounds looked almost exactly as I remembered them.Emphasis on Almost.I let the curtain fall and sat on the edge of the bed. For a few minutes, I simply stayed there.Home.The word felt strange.I had spent years telling myself I didn't need to come back. Arthur had asked more times than I could count. Come home. Help with the company. Come spend some time with the family. At least visit.I had always found a reason not to.Until recently.I leaned back and exhaled. Then I remembered what

  • The Billionaire behind the Silver Mask    Chapter 23

Adonis POVHow did Gregor know Mona? The question had hunted me right from when Mona had described the strange man who approached her in the car and I clicked that it must have been Gegor. The question still stayed in my mind as we made our way into the manor.I watched my brother laugh with Arthur as they walked ahead of us, accepting greetings from the staff, Mrs Harper and the rest as though he had never left. But I wasn't thinking about his return. I was thinking about the way his smile had disappeared the moment he saw Mona.He had recognized her. There was no mistaking it.But how?Mona had known the Blackwoods long before Gregor ever became part of the family. After the incident, She used to visit the manor when we were younger. Then, suddenly, she stopped coming. Her family relocated, and years later they returned and eventually built Hart Company.Gregor wasn't even a Blackwood then. Arthur had adopted him much later, after the accident that took his parents. By then, Mona ha

  • The Billionaire behind the Silver Mask    Chapter 22

Mona POVIn no time, Adonis's car arrived. The window rolled down, and I immediately opened the front door and got in.The moment I settled into the seat, the tinted window rolled back up, shutting us away from the outside.Adonis glanced at me. "Are you alright?""Yes."He studied me for a moment. "What were you doing at the café?"I blinked. The question immediately reminded me that I hadn't told him about meeting Lawson."I got thirsty," I said quickly. "So I came to get coffee there."He nodded. "Okay."That was it.I turned toward the window, but my mind quickly returned to what had happened. The strange man and the way he'd called my name as though he'd known me forever.Adonis glanced at me again. He was quiet for a while before asking, "Did something happen?"I did like I didn't hear him. "Uhn?"He kept his eyes on the road. "You look distracted." I hesitated. Then I exhaled, having decided to tell him. "A man approached me."His expression changed slightly. "What man?"I shr

  • The Billionaire behind the Silver Mask    Chapter 21

Mona POVI blinked. The Masked Billionaire? For a second, I didn't know what to say. I had just been sitting beside the man, and hearing someone else refer to him that way made the whole thing feel strangely unfamiliar."Uh...""Oh my God." Clara's eyes widened. "Is Hart Company owing him money? Is he keeping you captive?"I frowned "What?...I""Wait, I've always wanted to ask where you've been staying and who you've been staying with since everything happened. Is that why you...""Clara."Mr. Benson's voice stopped her. She looked at him."You've been the one speaking since we got here. At least let Mona answer one question before you ask another. Moreover we are not here to gossip. I believe Mona is an adult."My mouth was still opened from trying to talk. I looked at Mr. Benson, genuinely grateful for his intervention. I closed my mouth back.Clara's mouth fell open slightly. "Oh." She looked at me. "I'm sorry."I managed a nervous smile. "It's fine."Thankfully, I didn't have to e

  • The Billionaire behind the Silver Mask    Homecoming

Mona's POVFor a moment, I couldn't remember where I was. Then I saw him..Adonis stood beside the sofa, his hand slowly withdrawing from my hair.I blinked, still caught between sleep and wakefulness. "You’re home."He stared at me for a moment. "I am."I pushed myself upright and rubbed my eyes. My gaze drifted toward the clock. It was almost midnight."What are you doing here?" he asked.I frowned. "Here?"He nodded. "Why weren't you in your room?"I opened my mouth, then closed it. "I don't know. I just wanted to stay here."He studied me. "Were you waiting for me?"I blinked and answered quickly. "No."Adonis's brow lifted slightly. "Why would I be waiting for you?"His expression remained unreadable. I held his gaze. "I wasn't even worried about you. Apparently, you enjoy disappearing."He exhaled. "I see.""Yeah. just wanted to stay in the living room for a while.""Okay."He turned away. "I'm going to my room then."I watched him walk past me. I didn't even ask him where he was

  • The Billionaire behind the Silver Mask    Day before the meetings

Mona POVI stared at the signature again. My father's signature. At least, that was what it looked like. I traced the edge of the photocopy with my eyes, refusing to let myself settle on the easiest explanation. He had signed the document. That much was obvious. But why? Why would my father authorize something this enormous without ever mentioning it to me? I turned the page and looked at the transaction records again.Blackridge Consulting. The name appeared more than once. Money had been transferred from my father's company into an account connected to Blackridge, yet there was nothing else in the file that made sense of it. No proper correspondence. No clear contract and no explanation for why such a company had been involved in the first place. My stomach tightened. There were too many possibilities. Had my father signed under duress?Had someone deceived him? Or had the signature been forged? And then there was the possibility I didn't want to consider.Maybe my father actually s
