Charles Alejandro was at his hotel when he received the report that his chosen bride had finally arrived home.
He was eager to see Nancy, as his parents had been pressuring him to settle down. As their only son, he was likely to become the future president. He had many enemies, some inherited from his parents…
Charles had been at his company earlier in the morning before he decided to visit his hotel in the afternoon. He planned to spend the evening with any attractive lady there… It was no secret that he loved women. As a powerful man in AJ City, most young ladies were aware of this and also wanted to share a bed with him…
Charles, a 30-year-old black man, was very attractive. He was tall, masculine, and had short black hair. His mother wouldn't let him rest, as she kept pressuring him about marriage. She had even shown him photos of some ladies that she had selected for him. However, Charles wasn't interested in any of them. He preferred his promiscuous lifestyle, much to his parents' disapproval.
“Charles! You need to stop hosting different ladies and bringing shame to our family. You're the president's son; you need to act respectable for once. How do you feel knowing that almost half of the city's ladies have seen your nakedness?” His father asked him in their sitting room on the second floor. Charles was sat on a black couch.
Charles smiled and replied, “Not half, father. How could I possibly sleep with almost half of all the pretty ladies here? There are too many for me alone, and you know this.”
Seeing that his father wasn't smiling, Charles turned serious too.
His father replied, “Then you need to marry Charles. Or else, I will take away your privileges and find a suitable person to inherit my wealth.”
“Hmm..." Charles frowned as his father warned him with a stern look, then left the sitting room. As he went downstairs to meet his guests, his mother entered the room.
She asked him, “Charles… I don't understand why you're afraid of marriage?”
“Hmm, I'm not afraid of marriage, mom.” Charles replied, pulling a cigarette from his trouser pocket and lighting it. The truth was, he hadn't yet found a woman that he loved.
He saw most young ladies as cheats and gold-diggers. Many were willing to sleep with him despite having boyfriends or fiancés. He didn't want a woman like that to become his wife. Finding a woman who matched his expectations for a bride had been difficult.
“Then what's the problem, Charles? You haven't accepted any of the marriage proposals your father and I have arranged. Do you want us to choose a bride for you and marry her on your behalf?" His mother asked him.
“No mother. I'm not interested in an arranged bride. Most young ladies are deceiving and pretentious… Once they see that I want to marry them, they pretend to be nice. So no…"
Charles shook his head and took a drag from his cigar.
His mother frowned and said, “No Charles… That's what happens when you leave a responsible young lady to marry a prostitute like yourself…"
“Mum…" Charles stared up at his mother in shock, meeting her smiling gaze.
She was a 65-year-old black woman, dressed in a long blue traditional gown.
First lady Kira Alejandro approached Charles and said, “Here Charles… I have these three photos of lovely women for you to see. Their families are well respected and are part of your father's political party.”
“Mum…" Charles couldn't believe that his mother already had three women's photos, ready to show him at any opportunity.
His mother showed him the photos and said, “Here Charles, take a look.”
Charles finally accepted the photos from his mother.
He held his cigar as he wore a black top, black leather trousers, and black boots. He loved dressing in black.
Charles looked at the first photo. The woman was attractive, with dark skin and a round face. But her big brown eyes were what caught his attention. She wore a simple pink crop top and blue jeans.
Charles frowned, holding his cigar in his lips as he moved to the next photo. This woman had blue eyes.
She was cute, with a round face, sharp nose, and her sparkling blue eyes. He found her dimples rosy, her lips were plump enticing him to kiss her, and long golden hair which made her to look attractive. Looking at her slender neck and the top of her slightly exposed bosom, Charles gulped and felt his muscles tense. He didn't know how long he had been staring at her photo until he heard his mother ask, “Charles… Do you like her?"
“Mom…" Charles finally snapped out of his trance and looked at his mother, meeting her smiling gaze.
Charles held back his response as he moved to the last photo.
This woman was beautiful, with light skin and a slightly larger figure. But she didn't catch his eye or make his heart race like the second woman had.
Charles returned to the second woman's photo and handed the others back to his mother. “Who's she, mom?" he asked.
First lady Kira Alejandro smiled and replied, “She's Nancy Marlon. Senator Logan Marlon's only daughter and child.”
“Hmm…" Charles hummed, finishing his cigarette.
His mother said, “I see that you like her, Charles. Don't worry, I'll arrange for my assistant to send a marriage proposal to her family. They'll be pleased to know you've chosen their daughter.”
“Okay mom, but is she around? I'd like to see her in person. Does she really look like she does in this photo? You know how young women nowadays edit their photos to look attractive, right?” Charles asked, still looking at Nancy's photo.
His mother smiled and replied, “I don't know Charles, but I'll call her family to find out. If she's available, we'll proceed with the wedding preparations.”
“Okay Mom,” Charles smiled, not rejecting the idea of marriage.
He wanted Nancy. Every fiber of his being yearned for her.
He wanted to kiss her photo but suppressed his urge until his mother left him alone.
Charles stood up from the couch and went upstairs to his bedroom, taking Nancy's photo with him.
A month later, he visited his luxury hotel over the weekend. He hoped to find a beautiful lady who could distract him from his thinking too much of Nancy. But none of the attractive women he met moved him the way Nancy had.
“Boss, our security men in Senator Marlon's security team just called. Your chosen bride has finally returned to the city and is at her family home as we speak,” his personal assistant, Dennis Richard, informed him over the phone.
Charles replied, “Prepare the car. We're leaving for the Senator's mansion…"
“Okay boss,” Dennis answered. Charles immediately dismissed the woman who had been with him, feeling irritated and unfulfilled. He wanted to meet his chosen bride. He needed to see Nancy. So he left his luxurious hotel and went to his car, dressed in a black suit and red shirt.
Charles got into his car, and his security men closed the door behind him. The car then drove off towards Senator Logan Marlon's residence.
Nancy finished drying her long, wet, golden hair in her bedroom, combing it so that it cascaded behind her back. She walked out of her room and went downstairs to the living room to have dinner with her parents. She could feel her stomach growling loudly in hunger, so she gripped the iron railing for support as she went downstairs. She didn't want to miss her steps or risk falling as she descended the stairs.Upon reaching the ground floor, Nancy noticed that some guests had arrived at her parents' home, which caused her to frown. She hated the architectural design of her father's mansion; the living room was connected to the dining room, making it easy for guests to pry into her family's affairs. She cherished her privacy and detested being under scrutiny.Among the guests was a tall, handsome man who exuded authority. He was watching her as she descended the stairs. The intensity of his gaze was unsettling, and his black eyes seemed to strip her bare with their longing.Forcing herse
"No, Father!" Nancy screamed, as her father pulled her room door open and finally exited her bedroom. She turned to face her mother and begged, "Please, Mom, talk to Dad, I cannot marry that man, I cannot marry Charles." Mrs. Olivia Marlon sighed, and she finally walked up to the bed to meet her daughter, still holding the bouquet of rose flowers in her hands that Charles had given her earlier. She said, "I'm sorry, Nancy, I wish that I could speak to your father about this. But you know that your father is working under the AJ Political party group, and even though your father doesn't like Charles nor approve of him as your husband, he cannot say no. We were only hoping for your father's rank to be promoted, which is why he sent your photos to them..." "Mom..." Nancy stared at her mother's face in shock, tears filling her eyes. She remembered the day her mother had called her when she was at her home in City X, trying to cook. Her mother had asked her to send her photos, stating
"Mom..." Charles finally approached his mother, hugging her while she smiled at him and said, "Charles, you haven't answered my question yet. I was waiting for you to return home first so that we can have our dinner together as a family." "Good evening, Mom," Charles greeted his mother, hugging her and walking with her towards the dining room. He replied, "She's the one, Mom. She's very pretty too." "Hmm," First Lady Kira Alejandro smiled, watching as Charles pulled a dinner chair out for her to sit down first. She sat down elegantly, continuing to watch her handsome son as he took the chair next to her at the dining table. He replied, "Mom, she's the one and she's very cute. Where did you see her photo? I really do like her." "Mm," First Lady Kira Alejandro smiled, watching as the maids stepped out of the kitchen and walked up to the dining table to serve dinner. They served the delicious meals while President Nolan Alejandro was away at a presidential meeting. First Lady Kira s
Charles stood up from his bed, after placing Nancy's photo on the headboard, and went into his bathroom to bathe. Afterward, he stepped out, put on his night robe, and walked to his study room to keep himself busy.Sleep was far from his eyes. He knew he would be marrying soon, but he still needed to check his company records as he was running a multimillion-dollar company in their state.Charles took his time and did his own personal cross-checking of his company records and growth with his computer.Meanwhile, his mother, First Lady Kira Alejandro, had contacted her assistant, Miller Robert, via phone call."Hello, Miller.""Good evening, Your Excellency," Miller responded."I want you to find out what this lady is up to for me. Keep track of all her movements and send some security men to follow her too.""Okay, Your Excellency," Miller responded."Is there anything else you need me to do?" Miller asked."No, that's all. And the job starts now," First Lady Kira replied."Okay, Your
Senator Logan blamed himself for organizing the business meeting in his home. He planned to rebuild a new welcoming area to receive his guests and divert their attention away from his wife and daughter. He had seen the men lusting after his daughter, and they also lusted after his beautiful wife.Nancy picked up her teacup and drank from it. After breakfast with her parents ended, she finally spoke to them. "Dad, mom, I want to go out and shop for the things I need, as you know that I just returned home and some of my things that I use in my room have run out.""Okay, Nancy, will you be using your car or have Matthew accompany you to the shopping mall? As you know, the wedding is tomorrow and some guests already have their eyes on you. I cannot take the risk of them kidnapping you before the wedding," her father said to her."But dad, they don't know me. I mean, I am not a celebrity and not everyone knows that I will be getting married to Charles tomorrow," Nancy replied. She could see
"What? How am I under arrest? Isn't it my name and photo that you're seeing on my international passport?" Nancy struggled to break her hand away from the tight grip of the security man holding her soft left hand."You cannot delay my flight, let me go!" Nancy screamed out, as she desperately wanted to get away from the security man. She knew that the airplane would soon take off in 30 minutes, yet the tough-looking security man seized her hands."I'm only doing my job, madam. Or aren't you the president's son's chosen bride-to-be?" The security man questioned her, and Nancy stared at him in shock. She hadn't known that Charles still had his eyes on her to monitor her activities. The security man immediately took out his phone to call his boss to inform him that he had finally caught Nancy Marlon. They had received a phone call earlier in the morning not to allow anyone named Nancy Marlon to leave the airport.Although Nancy had indeed concealed her looks—with her identity card showing
Nancy met Charles' sharp, deep black eyes. With her chest rising and falling heavily, she really wanted to move away from him, but Charles held her close."I cannot let you go," he said, feeling as though he was beginning to lose himself because of her.Nancy took some steps backward and Charles approached her again, still staring intently into her face. She was halted by the glass wall behind her and swiftly turned to move away, but Charles cut her off. He inhaled her sweet blossom scent, tempted to kiss her pink lips, as his black eyes wandered to them again."Why don't you want me?" Charles asked. Standing very close to Nancy, he waited for her response. However, she couldn’t respond. The words got stuck in her throat as she inhaled Charles's cologne. It penetrated and forced its way into her nostrils, causing her to splutter, "I . . . I . . .""I don't love you," Nancy finally managed to say, speaking with trembling lips. Charles replied, "But I do... Let's get married. I promise t
Charles entered the elevator and didn't say a word to Nancy as he went downstairs to the ground floor. His mother rushed up to meet him as soon as he stepped out of the elevator."Charles, we need to cancel the wedding," his mother said to him, wearing a long blue native gown. She was a traditional woman who didn't want a young lady to ruin her only son's life."No, Mom, I cannot let Nancy go..." Charles replied, pausing to meet his mother's gaze."You have to, Charles. I made a terrible mistake by choosing Nancy's photo. There are still many other young ladies out there who truly want you. Just let her go, Charles...""Okay, Mom, I will, but after our wedding night," Charles replied, smiling. His mother stood speechless as she watched him walk out of the mansion.Charles finally exited the mansion door. He had an important business meeting to attend. If not for Nancy's plot to escape, he wouldn't be at home either. He got into his car and left.First Lady Kira remembered that Nancy wa
