Caleb POV

The press conference was Bella's idea. I'd argued for a controlled media statement — quiet, professional, no questions instead she had looked at me across the kitchen table with her coffee and said, Caleb, they already have photos of Tom at the window. They have months of speculation. A statement looks like damage control. A press conference looks like confidence. Then she'd gone back to her laptop and that had, apparently, been the end of the discussion.

She wasn't wrong, she was rar

Bella POVBut we were already equals, we had already established that. The paper would just be catching up to the truth.Tom fell asleep before eight, exhausted by the weight of good news and as usual playing with his dinosaurs as Caleb carried him to bed. I stood in the doorway and watched him tuck the blanket up and smooth Tom's hair off his forehead, and the feeling in my chest was so ordinary and so enormous I had to press my hand against the door frame. When he turned, he saw my face.He didn't say anything. He just crossed the hallway toward me, and I stepped back, and he pulled Tom's door most of the way closed, and then we were standing in the dim corridor looking at each other."You don't have to" he started."I know," I said.I kissed him first. Not the careful kind — I'd done enough of those. I rose onto my toes, slid my fingers into his thick black hair, and crashed my mouth against his with raw hunger. My lips parted his instantly, tongue pushing deep and greedy into his

Bella POVI pulled back slightly, needing the distance to say it properly. "First condition," I said. "We don't rush it, no engagement announcement, no ring shopping next week, no timeline shaped by your board's opinion or anyone else's expectations. We move when we're both ready, and I'm the one who decides when that is.""Agreed," he said immediately."You're not even going to negotiate?""No."I looked at him. "Most people negotiate.""I'm not negotiating the terms of spending my life with you," he said simply. "What else?""Second condition, we see someone like a therapist. Together. I'm not building something on top of everything that happened without a solid foundation. I've worked too hard to get here to watch it crack because we were too proud to do the work properly."Something moved across his face "I've been seeing a new therapist for about eight months."I stared at him. "You have.""Yes.""You never told me.""You never asked. And I wasn't sure you'd believe me, I didn't

  • The Billionaire’s Discarded Bride    Chapter 139: The Proposal

Bella POVI turned around. Caleb had stepped back to give me room, and he was looking at me with his hands loose at his sides and nothing held back in his expression. He didn't have a ring, he hadn't planned this particular moment. I could see that clearly."Caleb," I said."Not a business arrangement," he said. "Not a contract. Not something I'm asking because it makes sense legally or strategically or because anyone's dying wish requires it." He held my gaze. "Because I want to spend my life with you. Because Tom deserves to watch his parents choose each other, because every single time I've almost lost you I've understood more clearly what it would mean to actually lose you, and I don't want to spend one more day not being as sure as I can make myself."I looked at him."I know I was the reason you stopped believing those things were possible," he said. "And I know you've rebuilt yourself into someone who doesn't need them. I'm not asking because you need it." A pause, and somethin

Bella POVTom didn't know what had happened. He knew Mummy had come home in the middle of the night and that when I picked him up out of bed he was half-asleep and warm , I held him for probably too long while he drowsily patted my hair and said, "You're back already," I said, "I told you I would be," He was back in his own bed by four in the morning and asleep within minutes, and Caleb and I sat on the floor of his room in the dark with our backs against his bed frame, not talking, listening to him breathe. After a while Caleb's hand found mine and we stayed there until the light started to change. The nightmares started three nights later. Tom wasn't a dramatic child. But he woke twice in the same night reaching for something in a way that made my chest tighten, and when I sat with him and asked what he'd been dreaming he said, carefully, "There were people who wanted to take me," and looked at me with those grey eyes waiting to see how I would respond.I didn't look away from it.

Caleb pov The reply came almost immediately: Secure. Feed active. Cole took the bait—first message received and replied to. She’s holding steady.Good. She was holding but I wasn’t sure I was.I leaned back in the chair, eyes fixed on the sleeping image of my son, and let the guilt and love and bone-deep fear settle over me like a second skin. Tomorrow I’d be the Winter King again—cold, calculating, ready to tear apart anyone who threatened my family.Tonight, alone in the dark, I was just a man who’d once destroyed the only woman he’d ever loved… and who would burn the world down before he let it happen again. But first, I had to let her fight. And that might just be the hardest thing I’d ever done. The call came at 2:14 in the morning it was Lena's voice: "They're moving on Tom's location. Three vehicles, six operatives. ETA in eleven minutes."I was already out of the chair. Diana was in the kitchen she'd been sleeping on the couch the last two nights, close to Tom, without anyone

Caleb POVThe drive back to the penthouse was a blur of dark streets and red traffic lights I barely registered. My hands gripped the steering wheel too tightly, knuckles white, the scent of Bella still clinging to my skin—her perfume, her arousal, the faint salt of her tears. Every mile away from that anonymous apartment felt like another rip in my chest.I shouldn’t have gone. I shouldn’t have touched her.I sure as hell shouldn’t have fucked her like that—raw, brutal, punishing—against the wall when she was begging me to leave. But the second she’d opened that door, the second I saw her standing there already halfway into the role of bait, something inside me had snapped, years of regret, of searching empty rooms for the wife I’d thrown away, of waking up reaching for a woman who wasn’t there… it all crashed over the carefully built walls I’d rebuilt since she came back. She’d cried out in pain when I thrust into her the first time—sharp, broken sounds that only made me drive harde

Bella pov I turned to find Ethan Pierce, CEO of Pierce Industries and one of the few self-made billionaires in the room.
