Lucien’s POV

Lucien had been trying not to think about her.

About the betrayal of the only woman he had ever truly cared for. He refused—steadfastly, stubbornly, to believe that he had been so completely deceived by the woman who was meant to be the mother of his child. Yet the thought replayed in his mind over and over again, gnawing at the edges of his mind until he no longer knew what to think.

He had lied to her once, but the moment he understood what he felt for her, he had confessed immediately, stripping himself bare in a way he had never done for anyone else. Lucien had always believed himself to be cold—complex, distant, unyielding. That was the man the world knew. That was the man he had learned to be.

She had shown him otherwise.

With her, life had felt simpler. Manageable in ways he hadn’t thought possible. She had made him believe that perhaps he wasn’t as fractured as he once assumed. She had given him a comfort no one could even come to give him since his brother’s deat

  • The Billionaire’s Fake Bride    Chapter 63- What I Can Carry

Celine’s POVTrust is fragile and it goes both ways. The elevator doors slid open with a soft chime.I stepped out slowly, with my head lowered, mask pulled high on my face. My hair was tucked beneath a dark beanie, the kind that is not supposed to invite attention, but might be doing exactly that, given the circumstances. Still, I just had to.The lobby was quieter than it had been days ago. Through the glass doors, I could see some of them still. Reporters can be so jobless to do their jobs, I licked my teeth at the nonsensical irony. At least they had the decency to look bored now, uncertain if this had been a colossal waste of their time. I kept my gaze down and walked forward.“Miss Celine.” The receptionist, Debbie, had risen from her seat, with a look of concern in her eyes. “Are you heading out?”“Yes.” I was surprised by the calmness of my voice.“Mr Adrian asked that you inform us before leaving.” She hesitated, then softened her tone. “I can arrange a car. Or have someone a

  • The Billionaire’s Fake Bride    Chapter 61- Chose the Risk

Celine's POVAdrian came to me somewhere close to eleven p.m.I was already halfway to exhaustion, restlessness stealing any ounce of sleep in me. I was getting tired of having to get the door at this point; four months of being sheltered and handled, of letting others do everything for you, did that to a person.I opened the door anyway. He stood there in his work clothes, his hair slightly disheveled like he’d run his hands through it one too many times. His eyes went straight to my face, then my arms, my shoulders—scanning me like he was looking for scratches I might’ve forgotten to mention. Maybe the mop of reporters somehow grabbed me from way up here.I squirmed, feeling strange under his gaze.“I heard about the noise earlier,” he said quietly. “I wanted to make sure you were okay.”“I’m fine,” I said, stepping aside to let him in, not wanting to be rude. “Tired. But fine.”He didn’t look convinced, but he followed me inside anyway. He stopped just short of the living room, his

  • The Billionaire’s Fake Bride    Chapter 60- Bad Luck

Celine’s POVAfter I finish narrating everything that has been going on in the past four three months, my hands fidgets by my sides as I wait for her to say something but she just… stares at me. My own words echo in my ears and I wonder if she hears it too. It felt like something I’ve torn out of myself and laid on the table without knowing what to do next. My throat burns. My chest feels too tight. For a second, I wonder if I should add something—clarify, explain more, soften the parts that sounded ugly or selfish or weak.Or maybe I should apologize for dumping everything on her, I might have already said too much.Maybe this is where she decides I’m not worth the trouble, or she'll just brush it off. Or she could just need a minute to breathe it in.Ryan El doesn’t say a word and doesn’t look away either, just watching me for what feels like an eternity. At this point I can hear the faint hum of the refrigerator, the distant traffic outside, the soft buzz of the television I’d fo

  • The Billionaire’s Fake Bride    Chapter 59- What could be any worse

Celine’s POVThere was a knock at the door. For a second, I just stand still. It was ridiculous the way a simple sound could send my heart skittering in my chest.I took a steadying breath and went to open the door.Ryan El stood there looking breathless and slightly disheveled. Her cream blouse loose and a few strands of her hair slipping out of her otherwise secure bun. She looked as if she had maybe rushed over. Her eyes swept over me, my face, my clothes, then the overalls still trapped in my grip, then back to my face.I forgot how to breathe for half a second. Then, as if only realising who she was, my lips broke into a happy grin.“Hey,” I said softly, stepping aside. “Come in.”Her gaze lingered on me for a moment before she moved. Concern was already written all over her face, even as she smiled.“What happened?” I asked before she could. “You look like you sprinted up the stairs.”Her eyes narrowed slightly, her brows raised slightly.“I should be asking the questions here,”

  • The Billionaire’s Fake Bride    Chapter 58- First Gift

Celine’s POV Ryan El’s reply comes in the next morning while I'm trying to make something to eat. The apartment seems to be settling because sometimes at night I suddenly wake to noise. Or maybe it's because I sleep alone now. Ryan El:She’s out of surgery. Tired. But stable. They said it went well.My chest loosens in relief, a bright smile coats my lips as I see the text. Celine:Thank God. I’m so glad. Please kiss her forehead for me.I stir the contents of the pan slowly with the wooden spoon, tracing lazy circles through onions that have just begun to turn translucent. They hiss softly in the oil, edges curling, the smell warm and sweet as it fills the kitchen. Are pregnant women allowed to have fried stuff? I'm not sure, I'll have to look it up later.Or maybe you're just weirdly doing too much celine, chill the fuck out. I pause to scrape the bottom, lifting the caramelizing bits before they burn, then add a pinch of salt to draw out more moisture. I sigh deeply as the ste
