Mag-log in“Finally.”
Charles Vale's voice was calm, almost polite.
That frightened Elena more than if he had shouted.
She stood frozen in the middle of the room, one hand instinctively resting against her stomach.
Adrian moved immediately, placing himself between Elena and the stranger.
“Who are you?”
Charles smiled faintly.
“You already know my name.”
“I asked who you are.”
Charles looked past Adrian and fixed his eyes on Elena.
“I’m the man your family should have told you about years ago.”
Elena's heart tightened.
She turned toward her father.
“Dad?”
Daniel didn't answer.
That silence was enough.
Elena stared at him in disbelief.
“You know him?”
Daniel finally looked at Charles.
“I know exactly who he is.”
Charles gave a humorless laugh.
“And yet you never told your daughter.”
Adrian's expression hardened.
“What does my family have to do with you?”
Charles slowly walked toward the table and placed a thick brown folder on it.
“Your family has everything to do with me.”
Adrian didn't move.
“Then explain.”
Charles opened the folder.
Inside were old photographs, business documents, newspaper clippings, and several yellowed pieces of paper.
Elena stepped closer.
One photograph caught her attention immediately.
It showed a much younger Alexander Blackwood standing beside Daniel Bennett.
Her father.
Elena's breath caught.
“You said you barely knew the Blackwoods.”
Daniel closed his eyes.
“I said there were things you didn't need to know.”
“You lied to me.”
“I was trying to protect you.”
Charles shook his head.
“That's what everyone keeps saying.”
His eyes moved toward Adrian.
“Your mother said she was protecting you. Your father said he was protecting his family. Daniel said he was protecting his daughter.”
He looked back at Elena.
“And all that protection created this.”
Adrian's jaw tightened.
“What happened between our families?”
Charles pulled out another photograph.
This one showed three men standing outside what looked like an old company building.
Alexander Blackwood stood in the center.
Daniel was beside him.
And the third man was Charles.
Elena stared at the photograph.
“What is this?”
“The beginning of everything.”
Charles placed it on the table.
“Thirty years ago, the Blackwoods and Bennetts entered into a business agreement with my family. We were supposed to build something together.”
Adrian glanced at his father-in-law-to-be.
“What happened?”
Charles's expression changed.
“Your grandfather happened.”
The room became silent.
Adrian stepped forward.
“Be careful.”
Charles didn't flinch.
“Alexander Blackwood took control of the company. He promised my family that we would remain partners.”
He opened another document.
“But when the company became valuable, the agreement suddenly disappeared.”
Elena looked at Daniel.
“Is this true?”
Daniel's face was pale.
“I was young.”
“That doesn't answer me.”
“I know.”
Charles's voice became colder.
“Your father knew what they did.”
Elena looked between the two men.
“You knew?”
Daniel swallowed.
“I knew something was wrong.”
“Something?”
“You don't understand what that family was capable of.”
Adrian's eyes narrowed.
“You're talking about my family.”
“I am.”
Charles turned toward him.
“And you need to understand something, Adrian. I don't hate you.”
Adrian looked surprised.
“I hate what your family did.”
Charles pushed another document across the table.
Adrian picked it up.
His eyes moved across the page.
Then stopped.
“What is this?”
“A transfer agreement.”
Adrian read it again.
“This can't be real.”
“What does it say?” Elena asked.
Adrian didn't answer.
Charles did.
“It says that years ago, Alexander Blackwood transferred ownership of a significant part of the company to another party.”
Elena frowned.
“Who?”
Charles looked directly at her.
“Your father.”
Elena stared at Daniel.
“What?”
Daniel's shoulders dropped.
“It was never supposed to happen.”
Adrian's voice was low.
“You owned part of Blackwood Corporation?”
“Not anymore.”
“Why?”
“Because your grandfather took it back.”
Adrian's expression changed.
“And you let him?”
Daniel looked at Elena.
“I had no choice.”
Charles laughed bitterly.
“Everyone always says they had no choice.”
Elena suddenly felt dizzy.
She grabbed the edge of the table.
Adrian noticed.
“Elena?”
“I’m fine.”
But she wasn't.
Too many secrets.
Too many lies.
And somehow, her family had been connected to the Blackwoods long before she ever met Adrian.
Charles watched her carefully.
“There is one more thing you need to know.”
Elena looked at him.
“What?”
Charles reached into the folder and removed a small envelope.
He placed it in front of her.
“This was found among your father's old documents.”
Daniel suddenly stood.
“Charles, don't.”
Elena looked at her father.
“Why?”
Daniel's face had gone completely pale.
“Because you don't know what that letter contains.”
Charles smiled.
“Perhaps she deserves to know.”
Elena slowly picked up the envelope.
Her fingers trembled.
There was no name on it.
Only one date.
A date from years before she had ever met Adrian.
She opened it.
Her eyes moved over the first line.
Then her face went completely still.
Adrian stepped closer.
“What does it say?”
Elena looked up at Charles.
“You knew about me?”
Charles said nothing.
She looked back at the letter.
The final sentence made her blood run cold.
If Elena ever discovers the truth, the Blackwoods will come looking for her.
Elena slowly lowered the letter.
“Why would they be looking for me?”
Charles's expression became deadly serious.
“Because, Elena…”
He paused.
“Your family isn't the only family that has been keeping secrets.”
Behind them, the lights suddenly went out.
And somewhere outside the house, a car engine roared to life.
Three years later.Sunlight streamed through the wide windows of the Blackwood estate. The house that had once been filled with arguments, secrets and suspicion was now alive with laughter.Children ran through the garden.Guests gathered around the swimming pool.Music played from the terrace. And in the middle of it all stood Elena Blackwood, watching her daughter chase butterflies across the lawn.“Lily! Don't run too far!”“I won't, Mummy!”Elena smiled.Lily was growing into a confident, cheerful little girl. She loved books, asked endless questions and had recently decided that she wanted to become a doctor.Adrian claimed she had inherited her mother's determination.Elena believed she had inherited his stubbornness.Either way, she was happy.Today was Lily's seventh birthday. And it was also the third anniversary of the Rose-Blackwood Family Foundation. For Elena, the two celebrations represented everything her family had worked to rebuild.---A House Filled With LoveAmelia
Six months had passed since the family agreement was dissolved. The Blackwood estate no longer felt like a place where secrets were buried. Its doors were open, its rooms had been renovated, and the old records office had become a historical archive.Elena stood in the entrance hall, watching workers carry the final boxes into the new family foundation office.A sign had been placed above the entrance.THE ROSE-BLACKWOOD FAMILY FOUNDATIONBeneath it was a simple statement:Every child deserves a name, a home and the freedom to choose their future.Elena read the words again.“Do you like it?”She turned.Adrian stood behind her, holding two cups of coffee.“I love it.”He handed her one.“You were right about changing the purpose of this place.”Elena smiled.“I wanted something good to come out of everything that happened.”Adrian looked towards the foundation office.“And it has.”---A Family ReunitedThe foundation's first official gathering was scheduled for that afternoon.Ameli
For the first time in years, the Blackwood estate felt peaceful. There were no mysterious phone calls, no unexpected visitors and no arguments over old documents.Elena sat in the garden with Lily while Adrian spoke with Robert inside.Lily was drawing a picture.“Look, Mummy!”Elena examined the paper. It showed three people holding hands beneath a bright yellow sun.“Who are they?”“That's you, Daddy and me.”Elena smiled.“It's beautiful.”Lily pointed to another figure.“And that's Grandma Amelia.”Elena looked at the drawing.“You've included everyone.”“Because we're a family.”Elena kissed her forehead.“Yes, sweetheart. We are.”But the peace they had finally found was about to face one last test.---The Official InvestigationThat afternoon, Robert received a call from the legal team. The authorities had begun examining the documents submitted during the succession dispute.Alexander's unauthorised changes to the inheritance agreement, the altered maternity registrations and
The morning after the trustees' decision, Elena woke to the sound of her phone ringing. It was Robert.“Good morning, Elena.”“Good morning. Has something happened?”“The trustees have scheduled the final succession hearing for this afternoon.”Elena sat up.“Didn't they already suspend Alexander's authority?”“They did. But the original agreement cannot be formally dissolved until the remaining claims are addressed.”Elena glanced towards Adrian, who was still asleep.“Does Alexander have another chance to interfere?”“Not legally. But he may attempt to challenge the process.”Elena sighed.“Then we'll be there.”She ended the call and turned towards Adrian.“It's happening today.”He opened his eyes.“Then today, we finish it.”---Lily's QuestionAt breakfast, Lily noticed that everyone seemed unusually quiet.“Are we going somewhere?”Elena smiled.“Yes, sweetheart. Daddy and I have an important meeting.”“Will you come back?”Adrian put down his cup.“Of course.”Lily looked betw
Morning arrived with an unusual silence at the Blackwood estate.Nobody had slept properly. The documents were arranged on the dining table, ready for the succession hearing. Jonathan had spent the early hours reviewing every page with Robert, while Adrian made arrangements for Lily to remain with Margaret.Elena stood beside the window, watching her daughter play in the garden.“She's happy,” Amelia said quietly.Elena turned.“She deserves to stay that way.”Amelia approached her.“I know I've made mistakes.”Elena remained silent.“I should have told you the truth about your birth. I should never have allowed Alexander's lies to become part of your life.”“You were protecting me,” Elena replied. “But you also made decisions for me.”Amelia nodded.“I was afraid that if you knew everything, I would lose you.”Elena's expression softened.“You didn't have to pretend to be my biological mother to be my mother.”Amelia's eyes filled with tears.“I loved you from the moment you came int
“But I signed it before I knew what Alexander had written on the other side.”Elena stared at Jonathan.“You're saying you signed a document appointing Alexander permanent guardian?”Jonathan nodded.“I signed a blank page. Victoria Blackwood told me it was an acknowledgement of the original agreement. She said the trustees needed my signature before they could preserve the family's records.”Robert looked furious.“And you trusted her?”“She was my daughter-in-law. I had no reason to believe she would use my signature against me.”Adrian picked up the photograph.“Can we prove the document was altered?”Jonathan nodded.“Yes. The original paper was kept in my private archive. Alexander only had access to a copy.”Clara leaned forward.“Then we need to find the original.”Jonathan looked towards Robert.“It's in the old family office.”Robert shook his head.“That office was sealed years ago.”“Not completely,” Jonathan replied.Elena stood.“Then that's where we're going.”Adrian loo
