The morning started with yet another awful phone call.

"Mr. Bronson, sorry," a voice on the line informed me. "Our firm has decided to delay our deal with Bronson Corporation. It's not the right time."

"That's the sixth one," I swore, holding the phone tighter. "Six in two weeks."

The man chuckled nervously. "It's only temporary. We'll… reconsider later."

He hung up on me before I could get a word out.

I placed the phone back on the desk and rubbed my face. The pile of rejected contracts was mounting higher each day.

---

Afternoon, I was in the boardroom again with the directors. The mood was more bitter than ever before.

Stanton leaned forward, his tie open. "Callum, this is getting out of hand. The company is losing value by the day."

Harris slapped his hand on the table. "Do you understand what's happening? If this continues, Bronson Corp won't survive the year."

I gave him a glare. "And what are you wanting me to do? Scare clients into remaining?"

"You require stability," Stanton said bluntly. "Investors must have a secure front."

The other directors nodded.

I stayed silent, jaw clenched. Stability. The word was a noose around my throat.

---

After the meeting was finished, I came back to my office. Evangeline sat there, crossed legs, on the couch.

"You're late," she said softly.

I sighed. "I didn't invite you."

She tilted her head. "I know. But I'm worried about you."

I walked over to my desk and poured myself a glass of water. "Don't play like concern. You need something."

Her lips twisted into a tiny smile. "You're right. I do."

I scowled at her. "What is it?"

She stepped forward, her feet making barely any noise on the floor. "Marry me, Callum."

I almost dropped the glass. "What?"

"You heard me," she said softly. "Marry me. If you marry me, my stepmother will no longer hold back. She'll convince my father to diversify his investment. The Wilder Group could stabilize Bronson Corp overnight."

I stared at her, stunned. "You want to marry me for business."

She smoothed her hair. "Not business only. You know I love you. I've always loved you. And you loved me once, too."

I clenched my teeth. "This is different."

"Why?" she asked, slitting her eyes. "Because of her?"

I said nothing.

Evangeline stepped forward, her voice lowering to a whisper. "Callum, you're drowning. And I'm the only one holding out a hand. Take it, before you're too far gone."

I headed over to the window and stared out at the Aurelia cityscape. "Even if the Wilder Group backs me now, what happens in the future? What do I do when I need more? What do I do when my stepmother needs more power?"

She frowned. "Why do you always assume the worst of me?"

I laughed harshly. "Because I know you, Evangeline."

There was silence between us. Finally, she sighed softly, "I'm not her, Callum. I'm not Zephyrine. I won't leave you."

Her words seared, but not in the manner she desired.

---

Tonight, I stayed in the office late after everyone else departed. Papers were strewn everywhere. I leaned back in my chair, gazing at the ceiling, unable to produce answers.

Later, I pulled out the lower drawer of my desk. Inside it was a small wood box.

I took it out and opened it.

Inside it was a picture. Zephyrine and I, two summers ago. We had gone to something in the summer. She was smiling, her arm thrown over mine, her eyes sparkling.

I stared at the photo a long time, my heart tightening.

"What did I do?" I grumbled.

The guilt was the strongest it had ever been. She had looked at me like I was the whole world to her. And I had shattered it with my own hands.

I closed the box and pushed it away. But the expression on her face remained.

---

My phone buzzed. A message from Evangeline appeared on the screen: Don't forget what I told you today. Consider it, Callum. I can save you.

I didn't respond. I went instead through my phonebook until I came to a number I hadn't called in months.

The private investigator.

I phoned.

"Bronson?" a man replied, after ringing a few times.

"Yes," I rasped. "I want you to find someone for me."

There was silence, then the man said, "Who?"

"Zephyrine," I said softly. "She left Aurelia with Edmund Hale. Follow her. I need to know exactly where she is, what she's doing, all of it."

The detective hesitated. "That will be hard. Hale is. on guard."

"Money isn't a problem," I told him coldly. "Just get it done."

I hung up before he could argue.

I sat back in my chair, rubbed my face. For days, I'd tried to focus on the business, survival. But nothing seemed to make her leave my head.

And so now I had to know.

Had to see her again.

  • The Billionaire's Forgotten Wife   The Homecoming

POV: ZephyrineThe drive from the airport felt too long. Even though I’d spent most of my life in Aurelia, coming back now felt strange. The city looked the same — tall buildings, traffic, people everywhere — but it wasn’t the same for me. Not after everything.Isla was sitting beside me, her face pressed against the car window. “Mom, is this where you were born?”“Yes, sweetheart,” I said softly, brushing a strand of hair from her face.Julian leaned forward from his seat. “It’s noisy here.”Edmund chuckled from the front. “That’s how Aurelia always is. You’ll get used to it, little man.”Xavier, the quietest of the three, was holding his stuffed fox tightly. “I don’t like it,” he said quietly.I looked at him through the mirror. His voice was small, tired. He’d been weak lately — the doctors said it was just exhaustion, but I worried anyway. “It’s alright, love. You’ll like the house when you see it.”Adrian, who sat beside Edmund, turned slightly and smiled. “It’s a big place, Xavi

Five years later. The Hale estate was quiet that morning, except for the sound of laughter coming from the living room. Zephyrine stood by the door, watching as the triplets argued over who got to hold the crayon box first.“Xavier, let your sister use it,” she said patiently.“But she used the red already!” he protested, holding it tightly.Isla rolled her eyes. “You can’t even draw straight lines.”“I can too!”Zephyrine sighed, walking over to collect the crayon box herself. “Alright, enough. You’ll all share. Ten minutes each.”Jillian giggled. “Mom, he’s making the dragon look like a chicken.”“Because chickens can fly too,” Xavier said proudly. The tutor, Ms. Bennett, smiled awkwardly from her seat. “They were well-behaved today, Lady Zephyrine. Just a little… energetic.”“That’s every day,” Zephyrine replied, smiling faintly as she walked her to the door. “Thank you, Ms. Bennett. Same time tomorrow?”“Yes, of course. Have a good afternoon.”Once the tutor left, Zephyrine turned

  • The Billionaire's Forgotten Wife   Callum's Retreat

POV: Callum (Aurelia)The plane landed in Aurelia in the late afternoon, but I barely noticed the view outside the window. My mind was fixated on the same thing for what had to have been hours already: Adrian's fist across my cheek, Edmund's cold tone telling me to go back to Evangeline, and Zephyrine's silent glares that followed me everywhere.By the time I stepped out of the airport, my jaw ached. I massaged the side of my face and winced. The waiting driver saw that."Bumpy ride, sir?" he inquired."Just drive," I growled, climbing into the back seat.. Aurelia was as always, the skyscrapers and crowded streets flashing by, but I couldn't help but feel that I came back smaller than when I left. When we pulled up to my building, the doorman smiled at me. I nodded but did not engage in small talk. I simply wanted quiet.I stepped inside, set my bag on the floor, and proceeded to my office. Papers I had left on the desk were piled high, and the screen of my laptop flashed with messag

  • The Billionaire's Forgotten Wife   Zephyrine's Decision

POV: Zephyrine (Eldoria)I was in the sitting room, trying to read through a file of documents Adrian had given me the day before, when the door opened. Edmund came in with Adrian right behind him. The look on both their faces told me this was not a social visit."Set that aside for the time being," Edmund said, waving at the papers in my lap. "We need to discuss something."I laid the folder aside gently. "Is everything all right?"Adrian sat down opposite me, forward on the edge of his chair with his elbows on his knees. "Callum came yesterday. Grandfather had a meeting with him."I held my breath. "He came here? Why?Edmund rested both hands on the hilt of his cane. "Why do you think? A man like that never learns to let go. He wanted answers. Maybe he just wanted to convince himself he still had a place.""What did you tell him?" I asked, my voice tighter than I expected."The truth," Edmund said. "That he's finished here. That he should crawl back to that mistress he favored and l

  • The Billionaire's Forgotten Wife   Shattered Pride

POV: CallumMy jaw throbbed as I stood up. There was blood stuck in my mouth, and pride burned fiercer than the punch. Adrian's punch had landed hard, but it was the look on his face, that I wasn't worth the air he occupied — that cut deeper.Edmund tapped his cane on the ground. "You heard me, boy. This is done. Leave her alone."I rubbed the corner of my mouth and forced my voice tone. "You can't tell me what to do."Adrian stepped closer, his face hardening. "I can. And I just did. If you get anywhere near Zephyrine again, you'll have to deal with me first."I clenched my fists but didn't swing. I was hurting to, but I knew they'd love it when I lost my cool. I forced myself towards the door."Callum," Edmund's voice came behind me. "Men like you don't get second chances. You got your chance. Be grateful you're walking away with a bruise."I stopped in the doorway and faced him. "You think you know, but you don't. You don't know what happened between us."Edmund shook his head. "I

  • The Billionaire's Forgotten Wife   The Warning (Eldoria)

POV: CallumI didn't have much sleep following the gala. Every time I dozed off, Zephyrine's words echoed within my mind. I'm finally living — without you. The manner she said it, calming and serious, as if she had erased me from life.I stayed behind in Eldoria instead of boarding my return flight to Aurelia. Something within me simply couldn't leave. I justified it as business, but I knew better.Later in the morning, a man clad in grey suit showed up at my hotel. He handed me a card with little expression."Mr. Bronson," he said to me, "Mr. Edmund Hale has requested your presence. The address is on the card here. He requested that it be kept confidential."I examined the card. Private club, high-class, the sort only the richest families could enter without remorse. My gut tightened. I knew, Edmund Hale would come for me.When I arrived, an attendant escorted me down a hallway with slick wood and gold accents. The place reeked of old money and cigar. They brought me into a serene lo
