—Mabel—

Tuesday evening came like a whirlwind.

One moment I was in my office, staring at the paper Alec Rivera left in my hand—the next I was home adjusting my makeup before the vanity in my bedroom.

The children were back from school and were currently observing siesta in their room.

Done with my makeup, I did a 360 in front of the mirror.

For the evening, I wore a stunning satin emerald-green gown, the bodice delicately embroidered with sequins, and the skirt flowing elegantly to the floor in a mermaid silhouette.

Drop earrings coated with emeralds and diamonds, and a gold bracelet added the right touch of refinement.

My hair was styled in a loose fishtail braid, and I finished the look with nude Jimmy Choo stilettos and a gold purse covered in metallic beads to match my earrings.

“Perfect!”

I smiled to myself, and headed out.

“Bless my soul! I hope he remembers to breathe!” Mrs. Chukwuemeka gasped as I appeared at the top of the stairs.

She didn’t just know I had a date—she knew

—Mabel—An ex calling late into the night was odd. What did she want?I grabbed the phone from the nightstand and sat up.My thumb hovered over the answer icon.Part of me wanted to pick up and find out why she was calling Alec, but that'd mean prying into his privacy. And I wasn't known for that.Besides, he'd affirmed his loyalty to me countless times, had proven more than once how he was committed to only me.I lowered the phone back on the nightstand and went to sleep. The next morning, Alec was still asleep when I stirred.Quietly, I slid out of bed, threw on one of his shirts and headed out of the room.I went to the kids with the intention of preparing them for school. But I walked into their room and saw them already dressed up.It turned out Alec had ordered two of his housekeepers to care for the children. One of the housekeepers was brushing Eloise's hair before the dresser. And the other was tying the boys' shoes laces.“Mommy!!” the children blurted as they saw me lingeri

—Mabel—The door clicked shut and was followed by the sound of running water.I hated how pictures of anything played in my head.Alec peeling his clothes, stepping under the shower and soaping his body. I pictured him running his hand through his wet hair as lather glided down his n,pples, hard stomach, lower to his—Mabel! My thighs throbbed with need, legs dangling off the edge of the dresser while I waited.I picked up the comb again and resumed combing my hair.Moments passed. The sound of running water stopped and was replaced by a thick silence. But he stayed in there longer than I expected. What was he doing?Just as I lowered the comb, the door opened and Alec stepped into the room. He’d changed into black silk pajama pants that hung low on his hips and revealed the sculpted ridges of his torso.Sweet mercy. I found myself drooling as I took in the bulge in-between his legs.He caught me looking and smirked.“You know—you only need to ask, baby, and it’s all yours.”I blushe

—Mabel—Heat pooled in my belly hearing him say that. Not even my n*pples were spared—they twitched taut inside my dress.“S-sure. We can,” I stuttered.Alec walked up to me and his cologne wrapped around me. He leaned closer until his breath fanned my ear.“Good. Now put it away in your box, will you?”I swallowed hard. My fingers trembled slightly as I collected the vibrator from him and tucked it away in the box.He offered his hand. “Shall we?”I took his hand and he led us out of the room.“Are we still going to Daddy’s house?” Eloise asked as we stepped into the hallway. Her brothers lingered behind her with curious eyes.I chuckled. “Of course, sweethearts. We aren't missing it for the world.”Fizzy barked in Nathaniel's arms.“Can Fizzy come with us?” Nathaniel asked.“That's for your Daddy to decide,” I answered.Alec smiled. “Of course he can. He’s part of the family too, isn’t he?”“Yayy!!” the children squealed and rushed out, to the terrace. We followed them closely and m

—Mabel— “Right. Let's go pick up the kids. Together,” Alec said. A wave of happiness surged through me. It still felt surreal, hard to believe that I just took down Tom few hours after he framed Alec. I watched Alec pull out his phone and typed for a moment. Within seconds, the head of his bodyguard glanced at his smartwatch before turning around and communicating to the rest of his team. Alec let go of my waist and offered me his hand. “Are you ready, my love?” he asked. I nodded and accepted his invite. In the driveway, his convoy pulled up. We slid into the second car and eased out of his estate. It was a quiet ride. Each time I attempted to steal a glance at him, I found him looking at me. He placed his hand over mine on the chair. I stared down at our hands, then met his gaze. “You're spending the night at my place, right?” he asked. Warmth bloomed in my chest, a part of me already looking forward to the evening. “Yes.” I whispered. He cupped my face,

—Alec—Janice hesitated... every fleeting second felt like an hour.My heart pounded as I waited patiently for her reply.“Janice.”“Sir— Please, promise me you'll not freak out.”What nonsense was this?“What about Mabel? Damnit!” I rasped.Janice swallowed hard. “Ms. Parker was spotted entering a hotel. Here's the thing, Tom was seen entering the same hotel moments ago.”No!This couldn't be happening. She couldn't have switched sides so fast. What was I expecting? That she'd stick to my side after the video circulating the internet? That she'd love and support me regardless? My gaze faltered. Tears gathered in my eyes as I glanced across the tinted windows.“Sir, are you there?”“What's the name of the hotel?”“The Crownview Hotel,” she replied and paused. “Would you like me—”“No, thank you, Janice. I'll take it from here.”The call ended and I slipped my phone back into my pocket.I put myself together all through the ride. But once we pulled up in the driveway of my Green Oak ma

—Mabel—My hands trembled as I put on my earrings.Done, I also reached for my necklace on the dresser and draped it around my neck as Mrs. Chukwuemeka adjusted my zipper.“Are you sure about this?” she asked.I nodded. “This is what I want.”“What about Alec? What if he finds out?”“It can only be this way. I hope he understands,” I murmured as I stared at my reflection in the mirror, then shifted my stare to the kids' nanny standing behind me.I drew a deep breath and gently twirled. For the evening, I was wearing a dusty rose gown that swept the floor as I moved. Its neckline was heart-shaped, and a sequined epaulette framed one shoulder. My hair was swept to one side in cascades of gentle waves. Simple, but classic. It complimented my light makeup.I caressed my silver necklace, then earrings as the weight of the evening settled over me.“You look beautiful as always,” Mrs. Chukwuemeka whispered.I turned around and faced her, a faint smile tugging at my lips. “Thank you.
