Chapter 34: A Proposal: The Commencement of Atonement

Vivian entered Louis's office, bathed in gentle light and the fresh scent of new books. She smiled softly, gracefully walked over, and settled onto his lap, her lips finding his naturally. However, there was something unusual in Louis’s embrace, and his eyes seemed pensive.

Vivian looked deep into his eyes, sensing a hidden mystery. “Louis, are you alright?” she asked, her voice filled with concern.

He avoided her gaze, “Oh, it’s just work, a bit stressful.”

Vivian, knowing Louis too well, didn’t believe his words. She knew he wasn’t one to be easily worn down by work. But she didn’t want to push him to reveal something he might not want to, so she accepted his explanation.

Suddenly, Louis asked a question that took her aback, “What would you think if we got married?”

His question made her heart pound, but it also filled her with anxiety. “Louis, is your family opposing our relationship?” she cautiously asked.
