Chapter 2
Emelia’s Pov In an empty room, quiet sobs trailed from the smelly toilet. “For fucks sake, can you shut your mouth?! Or do you want to end up like that bitch on the floor? Huh?” A big bellied middle aged man cursed, kicking the girl on the face. He didn't stop there, his lips widened, showing his yellow teeth as he leaned down and began to tear open the girl's shirt. Neither of them noticed the fingers of the unconscious girl next to him moving. I suddenly opened my eyes, a splitting headache shooting through my skull. I groaned, placing my hands on my head, trying to shake off the headache. However, the moment I opened my eyes, I found myself in a familiar and yet unfamiliar environment. This was a hospital or rather, a mental institution… How the heck did I get back here? I was dead! Ethan and Nora killed me, so how could I be alive?! I turned my head to the side, and there was a broken mirror shard laying next to me, picking it up, I stared at the reflection that stared back at me, and promptly gasped. This was how my face looked when I was young! My face wasn't injured and burned as it was in the future, my face was still so soft and clean. “Did I come back in time? But that's impossible…” I trailed off, looking around. This was the mental hospital that I was put in by my parents after I had been accused of being mentally ill. How did I get back here? Was this a joke? However, before I could think further, someone spoke near me. “Oho… The young miss is finally awake.” The man spoke, his face covered with a sinister smile. He threw the girl he was holding to the ground and stalked towards me, his hands stretched out. Immediately I saw him, I froze. This was Director Shawn! He was the owner of the mental hospital where my parents had put me in! Anyone who saw me now wouldn't believe that I was the real daughter of the RedFields. I grew up in an orphanage until I was eighteen. Introverted and closed off, I desired nothing other than a family who truly liked me. When I was eighteen, I returned to the RedFields as their young lady who had been lost at birth. I thought I had gained the family that I always wanted, five older brothers, a sister, parents and a boyfriend. However, I never imagined that I wouldn't be welcome into that family. The fake young lady, Nora, had filled the hearts of my parents and my older brothers treated me as no more than an annoying fly. For six whole years, I watched as they treated me like a scourge who could not be compared to Nora and Nora was treated as a princess. Nora had framed me for so many things including the fact that I had a mental illness. Me being sent here was also a scheme of hers. However, they had no idea that he used to rape girls and sell them off to other perverted men and today was the day that he had first raped me. I clenched the mirror in my hands tightly, it wasn't going to happen in this life. He loomed over me, his breath reeking of alcohol and filth. I clenched the mirror shard tightly, my knuckles turning white. The memories of my past life flashed through my mind, the pain, the helplessness, the betrayal. But I was not that weak girl anymore. Not in this life. He reached out to me, pushing me to the ground. I yelped as the back of my head touched the cold hard floor with bang. My eyes went blurry due to the pain but I was able to recover fast. He tore open my clothes, his leering smile revealing his intentions; however, the moment he leaned down to kiss my neck, I struck. The mirror shard that I was holding plunged into his eye with a sickening squelch. “Ahhhh!” His agonized scream echoed through the empty hallways, blood spurting onto my face and clothes as he fell to the floor, rolling around in pain. I didn’t flinch. I had seen worse. Lived through worse. Ignoring the searing pain in my wounded legs and broken ankle, I dragged myself across the room toward the tray of surgical instruments he kept nearby. My fingers found a knife, cold and sharp. I turned back to him, his body writhing in pain, his hands clutching at his ruined eye. “You fucking bitch! How dare you do this to me?! How dare you?!” He cursed, still screaming in pain. I let out a small laugh, my body had never felt this light in years, “Monster.” I whispered, my voice filled with venom, “You were the first person who took everything from me in my past life. You forcefully took my innocence, you made me become a laughing stock just for the sake of money and now, I will take from you. I will no longer be the girl you once knew.” With precise and brutal efficiency, I brought the knife down, severing the very thing that made him a predator. His shrieks filled the room, louder, more desperate as blood soaked his pants and still dripped on the ground. I felt no pity. Only satisfaction. I took a deep breath, my body trembling but my mind clear. There was no time to waste. I had to escape before his lackeys found me. Pushing past the pain, I limped out of the room, my breath ragged. The cold hallway stretched ahead, the flickering lights casting eerie shadows. My heart pounded as I reached the exit door. But just as I stepped outside, I froze. Figures stood waiting for me. I felt my body turn to ice as my heart screamed in vengeance. The very people who had sent me to my death were standing right in front of me, their gazes fixed on me, their eyes widened in shock but I couldn't help the smile that played on my lips. In this life, I would never let them trample on me again! “Emelia, what are you doing outside? And why is your body stained with paint?” Nora questioned, her innocent doe eyes staring at me, then she gasped and hid behind my fifth brother, Damien, “Is that… blood?” Immediately she said that, they all turned to stare at me in shock. My smirk went wider, “Come closer Nora, would you like to check?” Jeremy’s brows furrowed as he stepped forward, his towering frame casting a shadow over me, "Emelia, stop playing games and go back inside. We are here to talk with the director." He said, his voice gruff, impatient. I giggled again, tilting my head as I wiped the blood from my fingers onto my torn dress, "Oh, but Jeremy… you should hurry if you want to save him. He’s losing a lot of blood. I don't think he'll last any longer though.” Liam, the third brother, narrowed his eyes at me, "What do you mean?" He turned to the two guards standing behind them, "Go check on Director Shawn." The two men hesitated before nodding and rushing inside. I didn’t miss the flicker of unease that passed between my so-called family members. Nora bit her lip, playing her usual pitiful act, glancing at Damien for reassurance. "Emelia.” She whispered, voice trembling, "Did you… do something to the director?" I let out a light chuckle, stepping forward despite the burning pain in my legs, "Why? Are you worried about him, Nora? You should be. After all, he was your precious ally, wasn’t he?" Her face paled, and for the first time, a crack appeared in her carefully composed mask, "W… What are you talking about? You’re not making any sense!" Before I could reply, a scream echoed from inside the hospital. The guards rushed back out, their faces pale with horror. "H… He’s…! The director is…" One stammered, unable to finish. Liam’s eyes darkened, “Speak clearly, what happened??” The second guard swallowed hard, “I think it's better to see it for yourself.” The guard moved forward, especially avoiding me as he took out his phone and showed a picture of the Director's body to them. Nora shrieked, her pupils wide with shock, “What the heck did you do?! She really is crazy! We need to call security! She… She needs to be locked up before she kills someone else!" I rolled my eyes. Very predictable. But before anyone could move, another voice joined the conversation. "Well, well… Now this is interesting." A very familiar voice sounded and I turned around immediately, my eyes widening at the sight of the man in front of me. Kaidon BlackWood, my second brother's best friend. In my past life, he had done everything he could in order to make me realise just what kind of family I had but I was blinded to the point that I had caused his death. However, he had never appeared here in my past life, or was it because I changed the future, that's why he appeared? "You…?" My voice came out softer than I intended. The man smirked, his sharp blue eyes locking onto mine like a predator eyeing his prey, "Miss me, sweetheart?" I smiled at him, nodding my head. If there was anyone who could take me out of here, it was him.Emelia’s PovThe crowd hushed, the whispers dying abruptly. Nuella’s smirk wavered, her nails digging into her palm as she forced out a laugh, brittle and high-pitched, “You talk well for a fake.”Her laughter echoed, but this time, fewer people followed.I stood tall, arms crossing once more, my eyes locked on hers without a hint of hesitation, “And you talk too much for someone who’s already lost.”Nuella clenched her fists, her eyes spewing fire at me, and then, “She’s a fake!” Nuella declared, her finger stabbing through the air at me, “This girl standing here, she’s not the real ELLA.”The words cracked like a whip across the grand hall.Gasps erupted. Heads turned. The murmurs began instantly, spreading like fire in dry grass.“She’s really not the real one?” “But how does Nuella know?” “Shouldn't we wait for the hosts to come here before we start throwing around accusations?” Nuella’s eyes gleamed with cruel triumph as she went on, her voice carrying perfectly over the grow
Emelia’s PovNuella Hale was someone I didn't think I'd have the chance to meet in my lifetime. She was from one of the richest families in all of Capital City and held a prestigious title, however, she could never match up to me in terms of programming, so she declared herself my rival.I at least thought that our meeting could be pleasant, but unfortunately, that's not meant to happen.I tilted my chin, letting my words fall deliberately, “Do you really think presence is proven by how loud one can bark? Do you think brilliance shines because you scream it in everyone’s face?” I took another step closer, the distance between us crackling with tension, “No. True presence is quiet. Unshakable. It doesn’t need to announce itself.”I let my gaze sweep over the crowd, holding their eyes one by one before landing back on her, “And as for not belonging here, my name card is written in gold ink on the chair you tried to steal. My invitation was sealed and delivered. My work has already shape
Emelia’s Pov I turned slowly, my gaze cutting to my guide. His voice was smooth, almost too composed, but there was something in the way he asked that set my teeth on edge.I let out a sharp laugh, cold and humorless, “Why?” I repeated, my tone dripping with disdain, “Because I’m not stupid.”The crowd went still.I took a step closer, my eyes narrowing at both him and the trembling girl, “Do I look like someone who can’t tell right from wrong? Do I look blind to the fact that something about this entire scene stinks? Don’t insult me by expecting me to swallow that pathetic excuse.”The girl’s head hung lower, but her knuckles whitened at her sides. Still, she muttered the same thing, voice weak but stubborn, “I… I was just jealous. That’s all.”Her insistence was almost laughable.I studied her in silence, then let my arms drop, smoothing out my dress, “Fine.” I said flatly, my voice carrying enough weight to make her flinch again, “Keep your excuses if that’s what helps you sleep a
Emelia’s Pov The girl’s lips trembled. She tried to stammer, “N-no, you…”I cut her off, stepping forward, the click of my heels sharp against the marble, “No? Then explain why, after you bumped into me, I reached out to help you, and you screamed like I’d set you on fire. Explain that to everyone watching right now.”Her face paled, the act cracking under the weight of my words.I crossed my arms, keeping my gaze locked on her trembling form, “What’s the matter? Cat got your tongue? Or is it just hard to keep your lies straight when the truth is staring you in the face?”The whispers changed again, shifting, muttering.“If you wanted attention, you should’ve chosen another target.” I said coldly, my words slicing through her fake sobs, “Because I’m not someone you can frame so easily.”The girl’s mouth opened, but nothing came out. I stared at her for a moment, confused as to who she even was and why she wanted to frame me in the first place. I've never met her before and I'm confid
Emelia’s Pov Liora’s satisfied smile reflected right back at me, “Oh, it’s you.” She said confidently, dusting her palms together as if she’d just completed a masterpiece, “This is the version the world deserves to see.”Before I could argue, she clapped her hands sharply, and one of the assistants swept forward to pull me up from the chair, “Come on. He’s waiting downstairs.”“He?” I repeated weakly, but they were already ushering me toward the door.By the time I reached the bottom of the stairs, my pulse had quickened into something both terrifying and thrilling. Kaidon stood near the entrance, already dressed, looking devastatingly sharp in a tailored black suit. The cut hugged his shoulders and chest perfectly, his tie neat, his hair brushed back in sleek control.“Kaidon.” I called softly. He turned. The moment his eyes landed on me, his steps faltered. For a long, unguarded moment, he simply stared, his usually quick tongue stilled. His eyes widened, flicking over me in silent
Emelia’s Pov I puffed out my chest dramatically, trying to look dignified despite the heat still rising to my cheeks, “Fine. I’ll reluctantly agree to take the money.” I even tilted my chin up for effect.Kaidon’s grin stretched wider, the streetlight catching the edges of his teeth, “That’s my girl.” He murmured, giving my fingers a squeeze, “We’ll talk about the details when we get home. For now…” His voice dipped low, full of playful promise, “Let’s just have some fun.”“Fun?” I echoed, one brow arched.“Yes, Emelia.” He said with mock exasperation, tugging me forward again, “Fun. You know, that thing you’re allowed to have before you stress about parties and investors.”I rolled my eyes but let him drag me along anyway, “You’re such a child.” “Whatever you call me, Emelia. I accept it.” I huffed but couldn’t fight the smile tugging at my lips as we slipped deeper into Capital City’s neon heart. Kaidon steered me toward a line of food stalls glowing in red and gold, the scent of
