Morning Glow

Sunlight poured through the gauzy curtains like liquid gold, hot and insistent, pulling me out of sleep the way only Caribbean mornings can, slow, sticky, and impossible to ignore.

I blinked, disoriented, the sheets twisted around my legs like I'd fought them all night. My body felt heavy, deliciously used, every muscle reminding me of last night in tiny, secret throbs. The soreness between my thighs pulsed with each heartbeat, a quiet echo of him, deep, relentless, perfect. I pressed my face into the pillow and inhaled. His scent clung to me still: dark rum, salt, clean linen, and something darker, something that made my stomach flip even now.

God. I overslept. Badly.

The clock on the nightstand blinked at 10:36 a.m. Mia was going to roast me.

I rolled over, expecting to find her sprawled across the other bed in her usual post-party chaos, empty wine bottles, mascara-streaked pillow, phone dead on the floor. But the bed was empty. Made. Pristine.

A burst of laughter floated in from outside, bright and unfiltered.

I sat up, rubbing my eyes. The sliding doors to the private plunge pool were wide open, tropical breeze carrying the scent of chlorine and hibiscus. Mia’s voice rang out again, singing off-key to some pop song I couldn’t place, punctuated by the splash of water.

Of course she was already up. Of course she was drinking wine at eleven in the morning. Of course she looked like she’d been awake for hours, glowing and unbothered.

I swung my legs over the edge of the bed, wincing at the tenderness when I stood. My thighs protested. My core clenched involuntarily, remembering exactly how he’d spread me open, how he’d held me down with just the right amount of pressure, how he’d groaned my name, no, not my name. We never exchanged names. That was the rule. The delicious, reckless rule.

I grabbed one of the resort’s fluffy white robes, wrapped it around myself, and padded outside.

Mia was floating on her back in the plunge pool, arms spread wide, a half-empty bottle of rosé perched on the edge like a trophy. Her bikini was electric pink, hair piled in a messy topknot, oversized sunglasses reflecting the sun. She looked like she’d been born for this exact moment.

When she heard the door slide wider, she tilted her head back, spotting me upside-down.

“Well, well, well,” she drawled, voice dripping with mischief. “Look who finally decided to join the living. I was about to send out a search party. Or a coast guard. Maybe both.”

I laughed despite myself, the sound lighter than I expected. “Shut up. I overslept.”

“You think?” She rolled onto her stomach, kicking her legs lazily, sending ripples across the turquoise water. “Girl, you look like someone rearranged your soul last night. You’re glowing. Like, actual glow. Did you get some D? Because if you didn’t, I’m calling bullshit on physics.”

Heat rushed to my face. I tried to play it cool, leaning against the glass railing that separated our deck from the private plunge pool. “Mia.”

She grinned, shark-like. “Don’t ‘Mia’ me. You were gone when I got back at two a.m. I checked every inch of this bungalow. You weren’t here. You were out getting railed, weren’t you?”

I bit my lip, fighting a smile. “Maybe.”

She shrieked, splashing water everywhere as she scrambled to the edge, grabbing the wine bottle like it was evidence. “I knew it! I knew it! Spill. Right now. Every filthy detail. I need to live vicariously through your vagina.”

I laughed again, real, surprised, the kind of laugh that felt foreign after months of forcing smiles. I slid down to sit on the warm stone ledge, dipping my feet into the cool water. Mia handed me the bottle. I took a swig straight from it, sweet, chilled, perfect.

“Okay,” I said, exhaling. “But not all the details. Just… the important ones.”

Mia propped her chin on her folded arms, eyes wide behind her sunglasses. “I’m listening. Begin.”

I stared out at the ocean for a second, letting the memory wash over me again. The bar. The sunset. The way his eyes had locked on mine like gravity had shifted. The beach. The villa. His hands. His mouth.

“He was…” I started, voice quieter than I meant it to be. “Sinful. Like, unfairly gorgeous. Tall. Dark hair, just long enough to pull. Jaws like it were carved by angels who were angry about something. And his voice, God, Mia, his voice. Low. Rough. The kind that makes your thighs clench when he says your name. Except he never said my name.”

Mia’s mouth dropped open. “You didn’t even get his name?”

“No names. That was the deal. One night. No strings. No tomorrow.”

She let out a dramatic groan. “You’re living in a romance novel and you didn’t even exchange contact info? I’m suing you for emotional damages.”

I laughed, taking another sip of wine. “It was… intense. Like, the best sex I’ve ever had. Hands down. No contest. He didn’t rush. He took his time. Like he was… worshiping me. Every inch. He kissed places I didn’t even know were sensitive. He looked at me like I was the only thing in the world that mattered. And when he…” I stopped, cheeks burning. “When he was inside me… it wasn’t just fucking. It felt like the first time. Like I’d never really been touched before.”

Mia was silent for once. Actually silent. Then she whispered, “Holy shit.”

“Yeah.”

She reached over, squeezing my ankle. “You deserve that. After Chad’s bullshit. You deserve to feel wanted. Worshiped. Ravaged.”

I swallowed hard. The mention of Chad’s name should have hurt more, but it felt distant. Like a bruise that had finally faded to yellow. Last night I painted over it with something brighter, hotter.

Mia tilted her head. “So… are you going to see him again?”

I shook my head quickly. Too quickly. “No. It was one night. He’s probably already gone. Private jet guy, I’m pretty sure. That kind of money doesn’t stick around.”

She made a face. “You’re glowing like a damn lighthouse. Don’t tell me you’re not thinking about him right now.”

I bit my lip. “I am. A lot. I woke up sore and… wanting more. I stole his shirt. It smells like him. I’m wearing it under this robe right now.”

Mia cackled. “You little thief! I love it. Keep it. Wear it to bed. Rub one out to the memory. You’ve earned it.”

I splashed water at her. She shrieked, splashing back. We dissolved into giggles, the kind that made my stomach hurt in the best way.

But underneath the laughter, the ache lingered. Not just between my legs. Deeper. In the quiet spaces where hope used to live before Chad killed it on livestream.

I looked out at the ocean again, endless and blue, and wondered if he was already gone. If he’d woken up, found me missing, and shrugged it off like every other man before him. Or if, just maybe, he’d felt it too. The pull, the magic.

The terrifying possibility that one night could change everything.

Mia floated closer, nudging my foot with hers. “Hey. Whatever happens, you got laid by a Greek god last night. That’s a win. And you’re glowing. So keep glowing, babe. The rest of the vacation is ours.”

“Yeah,” I said softly. “It is.”

But even as I said it, my mind drifted back to midnight eyes, to hands that knew exactly where to touch, to a voice that had whispered things in the dark that still made me shiver. Just one night.

But God help me… it didn’t feel like just one night at all.

  • The Billionaire’s One Night Sin   The Mystery Man

Chicago in early March was a fickle lover, teasing with hints of spring one day, then slapping you with icy winds the next. Today was the latter, gray skies brooding over the Gold Coast neighborhood, where brownstones huddled like old friends sharing secrets. I pulled my coat tighter as I stepped out of my car, the click of my heels echoing on the sidewalk. The house loomed ahead: a classic Victorian revival, all ornate trim and bay windows, the kind of place that whispered history while begging for a modern touch. My small interior design company—Moreau Interiors, just me, two junior designers, and a rotating crew of contractors, had poured three months into this project. The owners, a young power couple in tech, wanted “elegant chaos”: mid-century modern vibes with pops of eclectic art, sustainable fabrics, and enough smart tech to make the place feel alive. We’d nailed it. The final walkthrough was today; they’d move in tomorrow.I unlocked the door with the spare key, stepping int

  • The Billionaire’s One Night Sin   The Name That Fits

New York in early February was a different beast from the Caribbean, gray skies pressing low, wind slicing through the glass canyons of Midtown, the city moving at a relentless pace that usually matched my own. Today, though, the rhythm felt off. It had been over a month since I left the island, the Dubai deal closed in a blur of signatures and champagne toasts after Sebastian insisted on four extra days of “proper celebration.” Yet every morning I woke up with the same phantom weight on my chest: her.The woman with the brown eyes that had burned into me, the laugh that had cut through my armor like it was paper, the body that had unraveled me on that beach and in my bed. I hadn’t gone a single day without thinking about her, replaying the way she’d dared me into the water, the taste of rum and salt on her lips, the way she’d looked at me like I was the only thing worth seeing.I’d waited two weeks after returning before I allowed myself to call the resort. Not out of weakness, I tol

  • The Billionaire’s One Night Sin   Last Night

The last night on the island hit like a bittersweet wave, the kind that knocks you off balance just when you’ve found your footing. Our bags were half-packed in the bungalow, flight confirmations buzzing on our phones, back to Chicago tomorrow, back to reality. Mia insisted we end with a bang: one final bar crawl, toasting to the adventures that had patched up my heart, piece by salty, sun-kissed piece. We dressed like it was our last chance to feel alive, Mia in a slinky gold dress that shimmered under the torchlights, me in high-waisted shorts and a cropped top, his shirt still hidden away like a talisman I couldn’t bear to wash. The air was thick with humidity and promise as we wandered the resort paths, laughter spilling from us like the wine we’d already cracked open in the room. The beach bar was alive, fairy lights strung like stars overhead, a steel drum band playing upbeat rhythms that made toes tap. We claimed our usual stools at the end, Mateo spotting us immediately with a

  • The Billionaire’s One Night Sin   Live a Little

The days blurred into a sun-soaked haze after that morning confessional with Mia, each one a deliberate distraction from the ghost of last night’s stranger. I threw myself into the island’s rhythm, chasing adventure like it could outrun the ache in my chest—and the one lower down that flared every time I remembered his touch. Mia was my perfect accomplice, her energy a whirlwind that swept me along, refusing to let me wallow. “We’re single, hot, and on vacation,” she’d declared that first afternoon, dragging me to the resort’s activity desk. “Time to live like it.”Jet skiing came first, the next morning after a lazy breakfast of mango smoothies and fresh croissants on our deck. The water was impossibly turquoise, warm as a bath, and the instructor, a bronzed local with a grin that could melt ice, strapped us into life vests and gave us a quick tutorial. Mia revved her engine first, shooting off like a rocket, spray fountaining behind her. I followed, tentative at first, the machine b

The wine had gone straight to my head, turning the afternoon into a soft, golden blur. Mia was still in the plunge pool, floating on her back, one hand lazily trailing circles in the water while the other clutched the now-empty rosé bottle like a scepter. She looked like she’d been born for this exact moment, sun-kissed, unbothered, radiating the kind of effortless joy I used to have before everything cracked open.I sat on the edge of the lounge, bare feet dangling in the cool water, Julian’s stolen shirt hidden beneath the white robe. Every shift of the fabric against my skin reminded me of him, his hands, his mouth, the way he’d held me like I was something sacred and dangerous at the same time. My body still hummed with the aftershocks, sore in the best possible way, but the high was fading, and in its place came the familiar, unwelcome visitor: memory.Mia noticed the shift in my face the second it happened. She rolled over, swimming to the edge with powerful kicks that sent ripp
