SIX YEARS AGO

Alessa and other students in red uniforms marched down the hallway heading to the gate of the arena. It was time for their task.

The rest of the students were in the arena already, waiting to watch them.

Aliyah held Alessa’s hand firmly, she kept using her thumb to crease her hand. Trying to calm and assure her that everything would be fine.

As they got to the gate, they met the students dressed in black uniforms. The final students.

They had knives of the same size in their hands and they started to hand them out to them.

Alessa was given her own and she stared at it with her heart pounding.

“It's okay, no matter what your task is, I will help you with it. Okay?” Aliyah assured her and she managed to nod.

She wondered what the knife was for.
