When they finally broke apart, both of them were breathing heavily. Nathan rested his forehead against hers, his eyes dark with desire.

“I don’t want to rush this,” he murmured. “But I also don’t want to pretend that I don’t want you.”

Emma’s heart was pounding, but she nodded. “I want you too,” she admitted softly.

Nathan’s lips curved into a slow smile, and he took her hand, leading her back inside. The penthouse was dimly lit, the soft glow of the city lights filtering through the windows. He stopped in front of the couch and turned to face her, his hands sliding up her arms to rest on her shoulders.

“Are you sure?” he asked, his voice thick with emotion.

Emma nodded, her eyes never leaving his. “Yes.”

He leaned in to kiss her again, this time with a hunger that made her knees weak. His hands moved to the zipper of her dress, slowly pulling it down as he kissed her neck, his lips leaving a trail of fire in their wake. The dress pooled at her feet, leaving her in nothing but her lin

Nathan laughed softly, the sound warm and comforting. “I can relate,” he said. “There’s something about the dark that makes everything feel… bigger. More intimidating.”Emma nodded, her gaze drifting back to the fire. “Yeah,” she murmured. “It’s like… it’s like all your fears come alive in the dark.”Nathan watched her for a moment, his expression thoughtful. Then he shifted slightly, his hand brushing against her shoulder. “You’re not alone in the dark anymore, Emma,” he said quietly. “Not if you don’t want to be.”Her breath caught at his words, and she turned to meet his gaze. There was something in his eyes—something raw and vulnerable—that made her heart ache. She wanted to reach out to him, to bridge the gap between them, but she wasn’t sure how.Instead, she leaned back against the couch, her shoulder brushing against his arm. “Tell me more about you,” she said softly. “What else are you afraid of?”Nathan’s lips curved into a wry smile. “Now you’re just trying to embarrass me,

Emma hesitated, her words caught in her throat. She wanted to say more, to tell him how she felt, but the weight of it all felt too heavy. Instead, she leaned into him, her head resting on his chest as she listened to the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. Nathan’s hand gently stroked her hair, his touch both soothing and electrifying.“You don’t have to say anything,” he murmured, his voice low and reassuring. “I know this is… a lot.”She nodded against him, her fingers tracing idle patterns on his chest. “It is. But it’s also… I don’t know. It feels right, being here with you.”Nathan’s hand stilled for a moment before he tilted her chin up to meet his gaze. His gray eyes were intense, searching hers for something she couldn’t quite name. “Emma, I want to show you something. Something that’s important to me.”Her breath hitched slightly at the seriousness in his tone. “What is it?”He didn’t answer immediately, instead guiding her to sit up. He stood, extending a hand to her. “Come wit

Emma’s breath hitched at his words, her cheeks flushing with warmth. She wanted to tell him how much that meant to her, how much he meant to her, but the words caught in her throat. Instead, she leaned in slightly, her lips parting as if drawn to him by some invisible force.Nathan’s gaze dropped to her mouth, his own lips parting in response. For a moment, it seemed like he might close the distance between them, but then he pulled back slightly, his expression softening. “Not yet,” he murmured, his voice thick with restraint.Emma nodded, though her body ached with the need to feel his lips on hers. She understood why he was holding back—she did—but that didn’t make it any easier. “Okay,” she whispered, her voice barely audible.Nathan reached for her hand, intertwining their fingers as he leaned back against the sofa. They sat like that for a while, the firelight dancing across their faces as the tension between them simmered just beneath the surface.Eventually, Nathan broke the si

The gala was a whirlwind of opulence, the kind of event Emma had only ever read about in novels. The chandeliers sparkled like constellations, and the air was thick with the scent of expensive perfume and champagne. She adjusted the strap of her emerald-green gown, feeling both out of place and strangely exhilarated. Nathan had insisted she accompany him, and though she’d hesitated at first, the way he’d looked at her when she agreed had made it impossible to refuse. She stood near the edge of the room, sipping a glass of champagne and trying to blend into the crowd. Nathan was across the room, deep in conversation with a group of investors, his gray eyes occasionally flicking toward her as if to make sure she was still there. Each time their gazes met, a shiver ran down her spine.“Emma Stone,” a voice purred from behind her, smooth and cold as ice. “I’ve heard so much about you.”Emma turned to see a woman with sleek blonde hair and a crimson dress that clung to her figure like a se

Her heart swelled at his words, and when she opened her eyes, she found him closer than before, his face mere inches from hers. She could feel his breath on her lips, could see the flicker of desire in his eyes. It would be so easy to close the distance between them, to let herself fall into him completely. But then he pulled back slightly, his hand dropping from her cheek. “Not yet,” he said softly, as if reading her thoughts. “When it happens, I want it to be because you’re ready. Because you’re sure.”Emma nodded, though a part of her ached for more. She understood why he was holding back, but it didn’t make the longing any less intense. She reached for her glass again, needing something to steady herself. They sat in silence for a while, the crackling fire and the occasional clink of ice the only sounds in the room. Emma’s mind raced, torn between the desire to give in and the fear of what that might mean. She glanced at Nathan out of the corner of her eye, watching as he stared i
