The room seemed to shrink until there were only three people standing in it: Julian, Richard, and me.

Julian’s cold, commanding gray-blue eyes swept across the crowd before landing directly on my face. The moment his gaze met mine, he froze. A sudden, powerful spark ignited in his eyes—a mixture of sharp recognition, intense surprise, and a dark, lingering passion that had burned quietly for five long years.

He remembered me. I could tell instantly.

"Julian, this is... well, this is my ex-wife, Elena," Richard said nervously, attempting a forced chuckle. He didn't notice the electric tension crackling between us. "Can you believe it? She claims to be the CEO of Vance-Global now. She must be playing some kind of cheap trick—"

"Shut your mouth, Richard," Julian said.

His voice was low, deep, and laced with absolute authority. It cut through Richard's words like a sharp blade.

Richard flinched, stepping back awkwardly. "Julian? What do you mean? I'm just trying to protect our family's reputation—"

"You don't represent this family, and you certainly don't represent me," Julian replied coldly, not taking his eyes off me for a single second. He took a slow, deliberate step forward, closing the distance between us.

Up close, his presence was staggering. He was taller than Richard, broader, and emanated a aura of pure, masculine power. The faint, clean scent of sandalwood and rain drifted off him—the exact same scent that had lingered on his penthouse sheets five years ago.

"Elena," Julian murmured softly, the harshness in his voice vanishing completely as he spoke my name. "It really is you."

"Mr. Vance," I managed to say, forcing my voice to remain calm and professional despite the chaos in my heart. "It has been a long time."

"Five years, three months, and twelve days," Julian said quietly, his eyes searching my face with an intensity that made my breath hitch. "You vanished before sunrise. You left nothing behind but the scent of jasmine."

Richard stared between the two of us, his expression twisting into confusion and growing panic. "Wait... what? Julian, do you... do you know her? What are you talking about?"

Julian ignored his younger brother entirely. He stepped closer to me, his tall frame blocking Richard from my view. "I searched every city in this country for you, Elena. I hired the best investigators, but it was like you vanished into thin air."

"I had to fix my life," I whispered, looking up into his dark eyes. "I had to reclaim who I truly was."

Suddenly, my phone buzzed in my clutch bag. I pulled it out to check the screen. It was a lock-screen notification from Nanny Sarah: *Leo is asking for his bedtime story before he sleeps.*

Displayed brightly on my phone screen was a photo of Leo smiling brightly at the camera, wearing his little tuxedo.

Julian’s eyes flicked down to my phone. The moment he saw the picture of Leo, his body went entirely rigid.

He stared at the photograph. He looked at the boy's sharp jawline, his dark messy hair, and most importantly, those unmistakable, striking gray-blue eyes that were an exact mirror image of his own.

Julian's breath caught in his throat. His powerful shoulders tensed, and his eyes shot back up to meet mine. The sharp intelligence in his mind pieced the truth together in a fraction of a second.

Five years ago. One night together. A boy who looked exactly like him, currently five years old.

"Elena..." Julian’s voice lowered to a deep, dangerous rumble, thick with raw emotion. "Who is that boy?"

Before I could answer, Richard barged back into the conversation, trying desperately to regain attention. "Oh, that's just her illegitimate kid! She probably got knocked up by some random low-life after I kicked her out! See, Julian? I told you she was a useless woman—"

*THUD!*

Julian turned like a striking predator. He grabbed Richard by the front of his suit jacket and slammed him hard against a nearby marble pillar. The sudden impact echoed across the quiet ballroom.

Chloe screamed in terror. Several guests gasped in shock.

"Julian! What are you doing?!" Richard wheezed, clutching at Julian’s massive hand, which held him pinned against the marble like a ragdoll.

Julian leaned in close to Richard's terrified face, his gray-blue eyes blazing with lethal rage. "If you utter one more disrespectful word about Elena or that child, I will liquidate your remaining assets by midnight and throw you into federal prison for corporate fraud."

"J-Julian... I'm your brother!" Richard squeaked out, trembling violently.

"You are nothing to me," Julian growled softly into his ear. "And soon, you will have nothing at all."

Julian released his grip, letting Richard slide down the pillar onto his knees, gasping for air. Chloe rushed to pull him up, looking horrified.

Julian adjusted his suit cuffs, turned back to me, and smoothed his expression into one of absolute devotion. He took my hand gently, raising it to his lips, and brushed a warm kiss against my knuckles.

"Elena," Julian said, looking deeply into my eyes. "We have five years of lost time to discuss. And after your speech... I want to meet my son."

  • The Billionaire's Secret Heir   The Man Who Stayed Behind

Nobody moved. Daniel stared at the ledger as though it had become a weapon pointed directly at him. “Explain,” Alexander said. Daniel looked at me. “Your father asked me to stay behind.” “During the fire?” “Yes.” “Why?” Daniel's eyes filled with regret. “Because someone had to get the ledger out.” My mother shook her head. “That's not the whole truth.” Daniel looked at her. “I did what I had to do.” “You left him.” “I had no choice.” My voice broke through their argument. “Enough.” They both looked at me. “I want the truth. All of it.” Daniel lowered himself into a chair. He told us that my father had discovered the Black Ledger months before the fire. He knew the names inside could destroy powerful people, but he didn't immediately expose them. Instead, he began collecting additional evidence. He had contacted journalists, lawyers, and government officials. Someone betrayed him. “Samuel?” I asked. “Yes.” Daniel continued. “But Samuel wasn't working alone.” He pointed toward the

The factory disappeared into darkness, and for several seconds there was nothing but the sound of gunfire and my mother's scream. I dropped behind the concrete pillar as Alexander pulled me down. Bullets struck the metal beams above us, sending pieces of rust and dust raining onto the floor. Marcus fired back from somewhere to our left, and men shouted through the darkness. I could barely see my own hands. “Stay here,” Alexander whispered. “I'm going after your mother.” I grabbed his arm before he could move. “No.” He looked at me. “Alexander, the ledger is a trap.” “I know.” “Then why did Samuel leave it there?” He hesitated. “Because he wanted you to pick it up.” My heart sank. “Why?” Before he could answer, a voice came through the darkness. “Because the book isn't what you think it is.” Samuel. His voice seemed to come from everywhere at once. Alexander raised his weapon. “Show yourself.” Samuel laughed. “You still think this is about killing me.” The lights suddenly flickered ba

We returned to the safe house because there was nowhere else to go. Leo's disappearance had changed everything. Alexander was no longer calm. He paced through the room, making calls, demanding information from every contact he had. Marcus was working through surveillance networks. Elena sat silently on the couch, staring at the floor. My mother stood near the window. I looked at her. “Tell me how to get him back.” She turned. “They will contact you.” “When?” “When they're ready.” “I don't have time to wait.” “If you rush, they will kill him.” Alexander slammed his phone onto the table. “I found the vehicle.” Everyone looked at him. “Where?” Marcus asked. “An abandoned factory outside the city.” My mother immediately shook her head. “It's a trap.” Alexander looked at her. “I don't care.” “You should.” “They have Leo.” “That's exactly why you can't go.” I stepped between them. “We're going.” Alexander looked at me. “You stay here.” “No.” “They want you.” “Then I'm going.” He shook h

  • The Billionaire's Secret Heir   My mother

I couldn't move. My mother stood only a few feet away from me, yet fifteen years of questions separated us. I had imagined this moment so many times without realizing I had been imagining a ghost. She looked at me as though she couldn't decide whether to come closer or run. “Mom?” My voice broke. She nodded. “Amara.” I stepped toward her. Alexander immediately moved between us. “Don't.” I pushed his arm away. “She's my mother.” “We don't know what she wants.” My mother looked at him. “You still protect her with lies.” Alexander's expression hardened. “You don't know anything about me.” “I know exactly who you are.” She looked at me. “And I know what his family did.” I finally reached her. She touched my face with trembling fingers. The moment she touched me, I started crying. “Why did you leave me?” She closed her eyes. “Because staying would have killed you.” “You could have come back.” “I tried.” “When?” “Many times.” “Then why didn't you?” She looked toward Alexander. “Becau

  • The Billionaire's Secret Heir   Beneath the Ashes

We left the penthouse before sunrise. Alexander insisted on taking three armored vehicles, but the entire journey felt wrong. We weren't simply going to investigate an old warehouse anymore. We were going to search for answers someone had killed to keep buried. I sat beside Alexander in the front vehicle while Marcus followed behind us. Elena stayed with Leo in the second SUV. Nobody spoke much. The road was nearly empty, and the darkness outside the windows made the city feel unfamiliar. “Where exactly are we going?” I asked. “The old property.” “You know where the underground facility is?” “My father showed it to me once.” I turned toward him. “Why?” “Because he wanted me to inherit everything.” “Including the secrets?” “Especially the secrets.” His answer made me uncomfortable. We eventually reached the outskirts of the city. The warehouse was gone. All that remained was an abandoned stretch of land covered with weeds and broken concrete. Alexander got out first. Marcus's m

  • The Billionaire's Secret Heir   The woman in the camera

Nobody spoke for several seconds. The woman on the screen had disappeared, but the image remained frozen. Marcus immediately traced the camera feed. “Where is that camera connected?” Alexander asked. “The system says it's coming from the bedroom.” “Go.” We ran. Alexander reached the bedroom first and kicked the door open. The room was empty. The curtains moved slightly from the wind. The photograph was gone. I looked around desperately. “She was here.” Alexander searched the wardrobe, bathroom, balcony, everywhere. Nothing. Then Marcus noticed the floor. “Footprints.” There were faint marks near the balcony door. Someone had walked through the room recently. Alexander crouched and touched one of them. “Small.” “A woman's shoe,” Marcus said. I felt uneasy. “Could it be Elena?” Alexander looked at me. “No.” “How do you know?” “Because Elena has been with us since we arrived.” I looked toward the balcony. “Then who?” Suddenly, something crashed downstairs. Alexander raised his weap
