Six years ago....
I bumped into a very hard chest and knocked out all the documents from my hand on the ground.
I quickly tried to pick them up after being late for my classes a second time around.
"Damnit Adelyn." I scolded myself for unfortunately colliding into someone while being late.
"Take it easy on yourself."
"I'm sorry for bumping into you I was in a hurry, and I need to...." I stopped my mumbling after looking into the deepest ocean blue eyes I had ever seen.
"Not a problem misses Adelyn Paige. Just try not to get hurt by a wall next time." The man shocked shocking me.
"Wait, how do you know my name?" I questioned curious.
"It's written on your papers." I blushed seeing how stupid I was for thinking he knew me otherwise.
"Thank you." I blushed.
"Dante Harrison." He spoke making me confused before further saying, "My name's Dante Harrison." I nodded my head in understanding.
"Thank you, Dante Harrison." I mentally face palmed myself for saying his full name.
"I'll see you around Avelyn." Dante smiled at me before leaving.
Present day......
"I hope there's no need for you to rush home today, Miss. Emerson?" I looked down at my shoes angrily before looking up at him with a weary smile.
With his head cocked to the side, I had to fight the impulse to squeeze his cheeks. Every time he did it in the past, I always did what I was accustomed to doing.
"Actually, I can stay for a little while longer." I lied once again by saying that, looking up into his attractive silver eyes brought back emotions and sensations I never realized were still so firmly there.
"You now have a different assignment to complete. For the remaining time I'm here, you'll serve as my personal assistant since I don't have one at the moment." Dante concluded, appearing to seek my eyes for something as his gaze seemed to probe them. I'm not going to lie—I was flabbergasted.
I gave up on trying to ignore his intense attention at me and instead focused on his well-fitted suit. It annoyed me. I made an effort to keep my rage against him hidden.
Whenever I thought back on the circumstances that forced me to flee, I became enraged. I was enraged at the fact that I was still in love with him and that he was making it harder for me to go about my day-to-day responsibilities of caring for my babies.
I crinkled my nose, perplexed as to why this was the case "However, Mr. Bloomfield and Bloomfield Junior personal assistants have significantly more experience as personal assistants than I do, sir. I'm perplexed as to why you chose me for the position since they'd be the ideal candidates. I apologize if I do come off as rude." I was confused as to what Dante was up to.
"A role in administration helps the company run its day-to-day operations. The same is true of each and every other department in this building, Ms. Emerson. Given that restructuring is necessary to lift this business back to where it was previously, restructuring an organization to increase performance is entirely appropriate. This method has consistently worked for me when I've utilized it, which I have multiple times." He coldly gave an entire lecture before continuing.
"And if you may also know the personal assistants for Mr. Bloomfield were fired since they were so far behind, and I could see very plainly why." He brushed me off, appearing agitated with me.
On the other hand, a filing clerk's job is very dissimilar from a personal assistant!
My eyes were wide open. Fired?! He was not only a dictatorial and cocky man, but also a cruel and callous one who fired people on his first day without giving them a second chance, with the exception of Mr. Bloomfield's personal assistants, so I had to take what he said seriously.
Then again, I was given a second opportunity, along with a few others so maybe I needed to be a lot more grateful.
He must have learned that Mr. Bloomfield's personal aides were there for his and his son's own amusement and had been having relations with them.
Was this just a coincidence? He arrived in the same country where I fled, bought the same business I worked for in faraway New Zealand, and hired me as his personal assistant. Either faith was playing a sick joke on me, or he knew something and wasn't letting off.
How in the world did we get here? I left my cheating spouse behind in another country to protect our children and my own life, but here I was, serving as my husband's personal assistant there for a full month.
Just simply amazing, I took a quick look at his hand and noticed that there was no band on his finger, which made me feel both upset and angry.
Was this karma trying to exact vengeance on me for fleeing? Or did he really have something hidden behind those cold, analytical eyes of his?
I was going to need a few pills for the headaches my unaware billionaire baby daddy was causing.
I internally cringed listening to my own words.
Over the course of the next month, I would have to make an effort to hide my past identity and old habits from him especially my babies.
"If there aren't any more questions, Miss Emerson, I'd like to get started with your new responsibilities as my personal assistant." A file was given to me by Dante.
"The list is not subjected to everything but has all the basics you need to know. Your pay package will be upgraded if deemed so by me from hence forth. If not, then I'm afraid I'll have to let you go." Hearing this my eyes widened. I looked at the file reading its contents.
Reporting to senior management and performing secretarial and administrative duties.
Typing, formatting, and editing reports, documents, and presentations.
Entering data, maintaining databases, and keeping records.
Liaising with internal departments, answering calls, and making travel arrangements.
Managing internal and external correspondence on behalf of senior management.
Scheduling appointments, maintaining an events calendar, and sending reminders.
Copying, scanning, and faxing documents, as well as taking notes.
Preparing facilities for scheduled events and arranging refreshments, if required.
Ordering office supplies and replacements, as well as managing mail and courier services.
Observing best business practices and etiquette.
"I'm hoping there won't be any problems with working overtime and accompanying me to business meetings and other activities as needed." My eyes widened as I was immediately taken by surprise.
What?!
How can I politely explain to him that I have responsibilities at home and can't escape my daily life? Or will it cause me to lose my job? Considering that I'm already at the front of the line to be fired.
Dante, why are you making an effort to make me suffer hell once more? Just drive me to unintentionally remember how hurtful it was when you cheated on me in the past.
"The thing is......." I trailed off as his eyes penetrated into mine like fire on ice, and I instantly stopped knowing that if I continued to object more, things would undoubtedly go awry.
"Miss Emerson, if you're having problems, you may communicate those problems to me, and we can attempt to see to it that we fix the problem as soon as feasible." He spoke while cocking his head to the side slightly in an apparent attempt to decipher what I was contemplating.
My skin was tingling senselessly for him from the way he spoke so seductively. I was fortunate to be wearing a long sleeve shirt. Dante's unfathomable silver eyes and sensuous intonation could easily make any woman swoon just by gazing at her.
I was so enraged that I couldn't help but wonder how many other women he had slept with. I shouldn't be considering these things, but I just couldn't stop myself.
Damnit.
Well, you see I have to get home early in order to take care of our children as their babysitter has evening school. This was what I wanted to say but decided not to. I just needed to find a work a round through all of this.
"Sincerely, Mr. Harrison, there is no issue; I would be more than happy." I smiled as I lied. It was difficult to find a job, and learning that I could get a raise after giving my all would be wonderful for the twins. I needed this job for the sake of our kids.
Perhaps Mavis will be able to watch my babies when I can't get home in time to pick them up from the babysitter.
"Good." His cold silver eyes pierced curiously into mine.
Dante's PovThe first rays of sunlight were just starting to peek through my window at five in the morning. As I sat up in bed, I couldn't help but feel a sense of guilt wash over me.My mind wandered back to the events of yesterday, and I couldn't shake the feeling that I had been too hard on Faith. I knew I had given her an overwhelming amount of work to do, and I couldn't help but regret it.But then, as I thought about it more, I remembered that Faith had brought some of it upon herself. Ever since buying Dailyplus, Faith has always been eager to take on new challenges, to prove herself and show her worth. In a way, I admired her drive and determination.I had always treated Avelyn like royalty, showering her with love and affection. So, when she abruptly vanished from my life, it left me feeling hurt, confused, and determined to find out the truth behind her sudden disappearance. As I delved deeper into Faith's mystery, I began to unravel a web of lies that she had spun around he
I couldn't help but smile; today was going to be a wonderful day. After promising my little ones for an entire month, I was finally going to take them out for ice cream when I get home. I was eagerly looking forward to it, and their excitement would be the cherry on top.As I entered Dante's office, a sudden sense of surprise overwhelmed me as my gaze landed on the piles of files sprawled across his desk.I was left feeling perplexed, because in all my time working here, I'd never seen such a large collection of paperwork. My curiosity was piqued, and I couldn't resist wondering what the reason behind this sudden surge of paperwork could possibly be.Was there a crucial project that I had missed out on? Or was there an urgent matter that required immediate attention? While I stood there pondering over the possibilities, my mind raced with questions and speculations, eager to unravel the mystery behind the sea of files.I observed Dante engrossed in a phone call, his gaze wandering bey
"Mark." I hugged happily."You look absolutely stunning." He complimented."Thank you." I blushed."What are you doing here?" I questioned him."Well, we did end up canceling lunch the other day, so I decided why not come here to have it with you." He joked and I slapped his shoulder playfully."It's supposed to be a secret, but my father is a stakeholder in Dailyplus care." Mark whispered in my ear making me gasp in surprise."My father believes that if I'm able to work hard then I'll get what's coming for me, he's one of those old-time guys that doesn't want to reward a lazy son." I chuckled nodding my head in understanding."Who is this beautiful young lady, Mark?" A seemingly older man tugged at my hand before placing a kiss.My eyes darted a little taking note that Dante while conversing was still observing everything that I was doing."Faith this is my father Ralph, Dad meets Faith, she's works as Mr. Harrison's personal assistant." Mark introduced."You are gorgeous, now I see
"Pitiful." My baby boy Aiden giggled looking at me in my dress.Immediately picked him up in my arms and kissed his chubby cheeks. "I believe the word is beautiful but thank you." He giggled as I peppered nonstop kisses to his cheeks."Woah! You are gorgeous. Drop them dead baby." Mavis whistled glancing me up and down."I still think this dress is a bit too revealing." I told her as she took Aiden from my arms."Nonsense! Stop trying to overdress Faith. You look beautiful. Go woo a few heads after all you did say you might get back out there and start dating." May winked at me.I blushed. "I'm not trying to woo anyone, May. I just want to look nice, that's all.""Well, whatever it is you're trying to do, you're definitely achieving it. You look stunning, Faith, and I know there'll be a few eyes on you tonight." May smiled and Ava towards her, leaving me to check my reflection in the mirror. She was right, I looked great.I hadn't told Dante I was attending the ball so hopefully I wa
Avelyn's PovI sat at my desk completely enthralled in my work. I couldn't help but take a few glances at Dante as he worked. Even though I hated him I couldn't help but admire the handsome man.His chiseled jaw, his unruly thick brown hair, and his piercing blue eyes mesmerized me. I was sure I was going to get caught staring and quickly turned my attention back to my work.I had to focus, I thought, this project was due soon and I needed to finish it. It was important to me and I wanted to do my best. I had to ignore this infatuation I had with Dante and stay focused on the task at hand.I wished the only thing I did was hate him considering what he actually did to me. I just needed to get through this entire month without him figuring out anything and I'll be quite fine and all those stupid feelings I thought was no longer there will go away once again.I'm trying to focus on the fact that he was the one who wronged me, not the other way around. I'm seeking comfort in the knowledge
Present day....--Dante's Pov--I was sitting in a quaint coffee shop in the city when my tracker Gabriel arrived and took a seat in front of me."I want you to look into this female, her name is Faith Emerson. Go to the deed poll office if you have to but get me every information that you can find on her, including her childhood and where she was born, her family, go to her past schools she claims to have gone which she has on record and find out if anyone knows of her." I told my tracker Gabriel."I will, but do you have any indication that she and Avelyn might be related? But, sir, she does have a somewhat similar appearance to Avelyn." Gabriel inquired while casting a quick glance at the image I had provided of Faith.I had good cause to think she was related to Avelyn, and I also had reason to think she was my Avelyn; if that were the case, I would make her suffer hard for leaving me and running away."I do, I also want you to follow her. I want to know where she goes and who she
Four months ago....Third party Pov....Faith bit her lip as she struggled mightily to resist the urge to try to phone my parents. One of the most heartbreaking things for her was having to leave her own parents behind without any means of communication when they have only been supportive of her. This was the second time she was about to contact her parents without wanting to think of the repercussions, placing both her and her babies in danger, but she was curious as to how they were doing. She just needed to hear their voice.Slowly Faith dialed her mother's phone number and as it rang two times she could hear as her mother picked up and her voice saying hello almost bringing her to tears."A-Avelyn?" Faith heard as her mother mumbled after only hearing silence from her end."If this is you Avelyn, please just say something and let me know that you're ok." Avelyn's mother said tearily on the phone just hoping she would at least say a word.Avelyn's father, who was nearby, called Dan
--Dante's Pov--I was instantly pulled to this woman the moment I set eyes on her, which hasn't happened since Avelyn in a long time.On faith, I noticed a vaguely striking similarity to Avelyn, which made me want to keep her near to me.I despised the fact that the reason I was so drawn to Faith was because of the wretched Avelyn, who entered my life and plundered everything before disappearing completely.I spent countless nights, days, weeks, and even years looking for her until giving up a few months ago. Before formally giving up my hunt for that woman after two years and a few months, I encountered those two occurrences that brought me to this place. If someone had told me that Avelyn would ever leave me, I would have wagered all I had and lost. In my opinion, she was practically the epitome of human perfection. In the past two years, I would have sacrificed anything for this woman, but not anymore. If I ever saw her again, I'm not sure what I'd do. The woman was the epitome of
