Masuk"Your credit has been declined. sir."
Jason Vanguard stared at the waiter. He held his black card in his hand. He felt a surge of heat in his face. He was at a luxury breakfast spot with Elena. The bill was only two hundred dollars.
"Try it again." Jason snapped. "The machine must be broken. That card has no limit."
The waiter swiped it again. The machine let out a sharp. red beep. "I am sorry. Mr. Vanguard. It says the account is frozen. All of them."
Elena looked at him with wide eyes. "Jason. what is going on. I thought you said everything was handled."
"It is handled." Jason growled. He pulled out a second card. "Use this one."
Beep. Declined.
He pulled out a third. Declined.
Jason felt a cold sweat on his neck. He reached for his phone and dialed his head of finance. "Marcus. why are my personal cards being declined. I am at breakfast. Fix it now."
"Sir. I was just about to call you." Marcus sounded like he was running. "We have a massive problem. A company called Miller Estate Holdings filed a legal injunction an hour ago. They claim they own the debt on your primary residence and the headquarters. They have frozen every account associated with the Vanguard name for an emergency audit."
"Who is Miller Estate Holdings." Jason stood up. He forgot about his breakfast. "I have never heard of them."
"We don't know." Marcus said. "But they are fast. They have already contacted the SEC. They are claiming you used company funds for personal gifts. They mentioned a diamond necklace from Tiffany's. Jason. did you buy a necklace on the corporate account."
Jason looked at Elena. She was wearing the necklace. It sparkled in the morning light. He had used the company card because his personal accountant was out for the day. He thought he would just pay it back on Monday. It was a common move. No one ever noticed.
"It was a business expense." Jason lied.
"The auditors don't think so." Marcus whispered. "They are at the office now. Jason. they are sitting in your chair."
Jason hung up. He looked at Elena. "I have to go to the office. Something is wrong."
"But what about our shopping trip." Elena pouted. "You promised me the new bag."
"The cards are frozen. Elena! Listen to me!" Jason yelled. He had never raised his voice at her. She flinched. He didn't care. He turned and walked out of the restaurant. He didn't even pay the bill. He left his cards on the table.
He drove to the Vanguard Tower. He drove fast. He ignored the red lights. When he arrived. he saw three black SUVs parked in the fire lane. Men in dark suits were carrying boxes out of the lobby.
He ran to the elevators. His security badge didn't work. He had to wait for a guard to recognize him.
"Mr. Vanguard. you aren't supposed to be here." the guard said. He looked nervous.
"I own this building!" Jason pushed past him.
He reached the top floor. The doors opened to chaos. His staff was standing around the break room. They were whispering. They looked at him with pity. He hated it.
He marched into his private office. A woman was sitting in his leather chair. She was looking at a tablet. She had her back to him.
"Get out of my chair." Jason said.
The woman turned around.
Jason stopped. His heart stopped.
It was Sarah.
She wasn't wearing the simple cotton clothes he was used to. She was wearing a black dress that cost more than his car. Her hair was straight and shiny. She looked like a queen. She looked like a stranger.
"You're late. Jason." Sarah said. She didn't get up. "I told you that you would regret the night. I didn't think it would take you this long to get here."
"Sarah. what are you doing." Jason walked toward the desk. "Is this a joke. Did you steal a suit. Who are these people."
"These people work for me." Sarah pointed to the men in the corner. They were accountants. They were the best in the city. "And this office. It belongs to the Miller Group now. Well. it belongs to me. I bought your debt this morning. You missed a payment on the building's land lease three months ago. Your finance team buried it. I found it."
"You couldn't afford a land lease." Jason laughed. It was a desperate sound. "You don't have a dollar to your name. You're an orphan. Sarah. Stop playing dress up and get out before I call the police."
Sarah stood up. She walked toward him. She was taller in her heels. She looked him in the eye.
"I am not an orphan. Jason. I am the daughter of Arthur Miller. Does that name mean anything to you."
Jason felt like the floor had opened up. Arthur Miller was the man he had been trying to meet for two years. Arthur Miller was the man who controlled the entire shipping industry. Arthur Miller was a ghost. No one saw him. No one knew his family.
"You're lying." Jason said. "The Millers don't have a daughter."
"They have one." Sarah said. She picked up a document from the desk. "And she spent three years watching you fail. I wanted to see if you were a good man. I wanted to give you my father's empire. But you are just a small man with a big ego. You preferred Elena's lies to my truth."
"Sarah. I..."
"Don't." Sarah held up a hand. "I am here as your lead creditor. Not your wife. You have twenty-four hours to produce the funds to buy back your debt. If you don't. I will liquidate Vanguard International. I will sell your patents. I will sell your chairs. I will even sell that watch on your wrist."
Jason looked at his watch. It was a gift from his father.
"You can't do this." Jason said. "We were married. This is marital property."
"No." Sarah smiled. It was a cold smile. "I had you sign a post-nuptial agreement six months ago. Remember. You were drunk. You thought it was a gym membership form. You didn't even read it. It says that in the event of a divorce. you waive all rights to my assets. And since I am the one who owns your debt. you have no claim to this company either."
Jason remembered that night. He had been celebrating a deal. He had signed several papers Sarah put in front of him. He had trusted her because he thought she was too stupid to trick him.
"You trapped me." Jason hissed.
"I protected myself." Sarah corrected him. "You wanted a divorce. I gave it to you. Now. I want my money."
"I'll fight you." Jason said. "I'll get the best lawyers. I'll tell the world you're a fraud."
"Do it." Sarah sat back down. She picked up his favorite pen. "But while you're fighting. your stock is dropping. It’s down twenty percent since I walked into this room. The news is out. Jason. The Miller Group is hostile. No one is coming to save you."
The phone on the desk rang. It was the internal line.
"Yes." Sarah said. She listened for a second. "Put him through."
She hit the speaker button.
"Jason." It was his grandfather's old lawyer. "I just got a call from the board. They are holding an emergency vote. They want to remove you as CEO. They say the Miller Group has offered them a deal they can't refuse. They want to save their own skins. Jason. you need to resign before they fire you."
Jason sank into a chair. Not his chair. The guest chair.
Sarah looked at him. There was no pity in her eyes. There was only business.
"I'll give you a choice. Jason." Sarah said. "Resign now. Give me your shares. I'll let you keep the penthouse. I'll even let you keep your car. You can go live your life with Elena. You can be happy in the suburbs."
"And if I don't."
"Then I will bury you." Sarah said. "I will sue you for every cent you spent on Elena. I will put you in a cage for corporate fraud. You will have nothing. Not even your name."
Jason looked at the woman he had called boring. He looked at the woman he had ignored for three years. He realized he never knew her at all. He had been living with a predator and treating her like a pet.
"Why." Jason asked. "Why didn't you just tell me who you were."
"I did." Sarah said. "A hundred times. I told you my father was powerful. You laughed. I told you I could help with the business. You told me to go buy a dress. I tried to be your wife. Jason. You wanted a servant. Now you have a rival."
She pushed a new paper toward him. It was a resignation letter.
"Sign it." Sarah said. "And maybe I'll let you keep your watch."
Jason looked at the pen. He looked at the door. He saw the accountants watching him. He saw his legacy dying.
He reached for the pen. His hand was shaking.
"Wait." Jason said. "If I sign this... do I ever see you again."
Sarah laughed. It was a short. sharp sound. "Why would you want to see me. You said I was a bore. You said I was pathetic."
"I was wrong."
"You were late." Sarah corrected. "Sign the paper. Jason. My time is expensive."
The car sped through the dark streets toward the Miller mansion. Sarah stared at the two photos on her screen. One was a grainy image of a child with a jagged scar on the left side of her neck. The other was a clear shot of a young woman sitting in a library. She was reading a book. She had the same scar. The woman in the library was not the girl at the gala. Jason had used an actress to play the part of the "Shadow Sister" while he kept the real Lily Miller under lock and key at his father’s estate.Sarah felt a cold rage. Jason had reached a new level of cruelty. He was using a fake sister to destroy her public image while keeping her real sister as a prisoner. It was a double trap. If Sarah exposed the actress. Jason would simply hide the real Lily forever. If Sarah stayed silent. she would lose half her company to a fraud. The car pulled up to the Miller estate. Sarah didn't wait for the guards. She ran inside. She found her father in the study. Arthur Miller was staring at a tele
The grand ballroom was a sea of gold and crystal. Sarah stood at the top of the marble stairs. She wore a dress made of black diamonds. It clung to her like armor. Julian Thorne stood beside her. He offered his arm. He looked at her with admiration. Sarah did not feel like a queen. She felt like a soldier."Everyone is looking at you." Julian whispered. "They are terrified of what you will do next.""Good." Sarah said. "Fear is a better motivator than respect."They walked down the stairs. The music was soft. The guests moved out of their way. These were the same people who used to ignore Sarah at Jason's parties. They used to call her the boring wife. Now they bowed. They offered their cards. They wanted a piece of the Miller fortune.Sarah ignored them all. She scanned the room for Jason. She knew he would come. He couldn't resist a stage.Suddenly the music stopped. The massive double doors at the entrance swung open. The heavy wood hit the walls with a bang. Jason Vanguard walked
"Stop the signing."The voice was like a ghost from a grave. Jason dropped the pen. He turned toward the door. His heart hammered against his ribs. The man standing there was tall. He had grey hair at his temples. He wore a suit that cost more than a house. He had the same eyes as Jason. He had the same jawline. It was Robert Vanguard."Father." Jason whispered. The room went silent. The accountants stopped typing. Even Sarah looked surprised. Her eyes widened for a split second before she masked it with ice. She stood up slowly."Robert Vanguard." Sarah said. Her voice was sharp. "You were supposed to be dead. The plane crash in the Alps ten years ago had no survivors.""I am a hard man to kill. Ms. Miller." Robert walked into the room. He didn't look at the accountants. He didn't look at the boxes. He walked straight to Jason. He placed a hand on his son's shoulder. "You look weak. Jason. You were about to give away our bloodline because a girl scared you.""She is a Miller. Father.

The clock struck midnight. Sarah Miller sat at the head of the long dining table. The anniversary dinner was cold. She had spent five hours in the kitchen. She made the lobster. She made the soufflé. She made everything Jason loved. Now the food looked like trash. She wore a red silk dress. It was the only expensive thing she owned. She bought it with her own savings from her secret work. Jason did not know about her work. He did not know about her life. He only knew her as the quiet wife who stayed at home. She checked her phone. The screen was bright in the dark room. A gossip site had posted a video. It was trending. The headline said Billionaire Jason Vanguard Buys Diamonds For His True Love. Sarah watched the clip. It was Jason. He was at a high end jewelry store. He was laughing. He was holding a diamond necklace. He placed it around the neck of Elena Vance. Elena was his childhood friend. She was also the woman he told Sarah not to worry about. He looked at Elena with a look of
