Chapter Sixteen

Lucas let out a heavy sigh, a mixture of sorrow and regret painting his features. "It was supposed to be the happiest moment of my life," he began, his voice barely above a whisper. "I thought my dream of starting a family with her was finally coming true. But then everything fell apart. I never could have imagined the nightmare that followed," he finished, a hint of bitterness tainting his words.

Emma reached out to him, her expression filled with sympathy. "You don't have to talk about it if it's too difficult," she offered kindly. She couldn't stand seeing him in pain and didn't want to add to it by pressing for details.

Lucas looked up at her, a small, sad smile on his lips. "It wasn't my child, like she said it was," he revealed, his voice laced with disappointment. "I later found out she was sleeping with my best friend. The baby I was eagerly waiting for, excited to become a father, wasn't mine."

"OMG, Lucas, I'm so sorry," Emma gasped, her eyes filled with shock and sympathy.
