"I am so drained." I confided in my best friend, Sarah Hopkins. "I just can't handle all this nonsense anymore, Sarah."

"What's up, Liv?" She replied, "Your stupid Dad dumped more work on you again? Or did your Mom want you to meet her socialite friends to show off her perfect daughter?"

I fidgeted with my phone, balancing it between my ear and shoulder as I worked on the day's never-ending report. "Neither, though I think those might have been better. It's my and Jack's six-month anniversary today and they are throwing a huge useless party!"

"Oh yeah, I got the invite a month ago." She sighed. I could hear her typing away on her computer as well. "But I thought you said you wanted to keep it low-key?"

"I would have loved that." I slumped in my chair, taking a break from all the typing. "Jack has been making all these really sweet tiny gestures for the past five months. But the past month, he has been insanely busy and closed off so I figured it was my turn to do something nice for him for once. I had this midnight picnic at the private beach property planned out but my parents pushed for this ostensible party instead."

"And Jack agreed to it?" Sarah already knew the answer to that question. Jack gave great emphasis on harmony in the family so he was always making sure that my parents and his mother were content, happy and taken care of.

My husband was such a considerate loving man, even though he seemed off and distant the past month - well, he did have a merger and was ridiculously busy so I could not blame him.

But he always made me feel seen and heard and was my anchor in this hellish corporate world that my parents had raised me in.

I hummed as I opened a message from my mother on my laptop.

CASSANDRA SMITH: Pumpkin, why didn't you go for the fitting yesterday?

I let out a sigh. I was not saying that the life of a housewife slash socialite was easy. But I wanted to point out that it was easier than that of the senior sales manager of Beauty Smith, an extensive brand of beauty products spanning across North America and Europe.

I quickly typed down a reply.

OLIVIA SMITH: Don't they already have my measurements? I am sure Ursula won't get it wrong.

"My mother thinks I have all the time in the world. I will see you at the party?" I asked as I went back to the spreadsheet I was analyzing.

"I will try to make it." Sarah sounded like she would rather be anywhere else but there, which was not surprising because my parents' circle consisted of some of the shallowest bunch of people on this planet. "But no promises."

"Okay. See ya." I smiled as I cut the call knowing very well that Sarah was going to be there. She was always there for me without exceptions and I was there for her.

I sighed as I checked my message bar for any replies from my husband. Jack had not been picking up calls or responding to texts since he left the apartment in the morning.

My eyes darted to my mother's name where I could see her typing for the past five minutes. I rolled my eyes. I could tell she was really mad at me even though she was trying to rein in her temper since today was a good day.

I sighed again.

I wouldn't have complained about anything else if only Jack had replied to my messages.

"You look fabulous!" My Mom gushed as she twirled her finger, gesturing for me to twirl for her.

I rolled my eyes as I spun a three-sixty on my heels. "Happy?"

"Very, " she clapped. "Wait till Jack sees you in this. I am sure to have a grandchild in nine months!"

"Mom!" My cheeks were immediately on fire at her insinuation. "Jack and I have not discussed kids yet. But I imagine he too would want to push it for a few years until we settle into our careers."

"You both and your careers!" Mom rolled her eyes as if we weren't two of the more successful people out there.

There was suddenly an explosion of chatter.

The two of us looked around to see that everyone was looking between their phones and us. Me.

"What's going on?" I asked my mother even though I knew she had no idea.

Someone grabbed me by my arm and I turned around, my eyes wide with shock.

It was Sarah.

Her face was grim.

My heart dropped to my stomach. "What's wrong?"

Dread filled me up to my throat, bile rising with it. "Jack? It's Jack, isn't it? Is he okay? Tell me he is okay!"

"Oh, he won't be once I get my hands on him." Sarah's voice morphed into one of utmost fury.

Her reaction did nothing to curb my uneasiness.

"What are you talking about?" I asked.

Sarah took my hand as my Mom moved away to her assistant's side. My best friend dragged me away from the eyes of the huge mass, half of whom I was barely acquainted with, and into one of the ground-floor guest rooms of my parents' mansion.

"I need you to stay strong, okay?" She said in a rush as she pulled out her phone from her dress pocket.

"Huh?"

She had opened something on her phone but she sighed, her shoulders slumped as she looked up at me, her eyes moist.

"What's wrong? What's wrong with Jack?"

Sarah threw her arms around me and hugged me tighter than she ever had.

"What's wrong?" My voice was not above a whisper.

"I am so sorry, baby!"

She rarely called me baby. She only did it when she or I felt extreme emotions.

Was my Jack dead?

No, he was not.

She wouldn't have been furious at him if that was the case.

Did he...

"He cheated on you, baby."

I felt my knees give away and the only thing that was keeping me on my feet was the protective hold of my best friend on me.

"You sure?"

I knew she was sure. This was Sarah Hopkins. She would not say something so cruel to me without making sure it was indeed my reality.

I felt her nod against my shoulder as I felt tears trickle down my face.

"With some bitch named Elena. It's all over the internet."

Definitely a scum bag! Calling his own child a spawn? Hope his life becomes very miserable with whom he chose, and she leaves him penniless! And that he is so remorseful, and Olivia has a beautiful happy life. <3

______...○ ○ ○ W I L L I A M ○ ○ ○ .Daniel had collapsed mid-flight, so we had no other option but to get Olivia's body back to New York. I saw the condition that Jackson was in. I saw the condition that Sarah was in.And I saw the denial that Harry was drowning in. So I had to be the one to handle it all. She was a friend. She was a very good friend, but more than that, she was a really good mother and a person. As much as I felt bad for everyone who lost her, Kelsey and Cassandra were the two people that I was the most worried about. Losing your mother left a gaping hole in your heart - so huge that no amount of time could ever completely fill it up. Of course, we would try to use some cheap wallpaper over the gaping hole, but as soon as someone even lightly leaned against it, all the pain, all the numbness, all the anger, the denial, and the depression returned with trifold intensity.I did not want to blame anyone but whatever this was had taken a life and

_______...○ ○ ○ J A C K S O N ○ ○ ○.William had always been my friend. In fact, he had always been more of a brother than he had ever been a friend. So when I set out to avenge the pain and suffering that my mother had gone through, of course he was ready to back me up. But he had told me one thing then, even before he met Olivia, that I was setting out to create another Lilith and maybe I should give it another thought. I didn't.And that was exactly why I was waiting for the authorities to do the DNA test on the unrecognisable body of my wife and the mother of my child. It was over. Everything was over. How the hell was I supposed to do this? How the hell was I supposed to take her lifeless body to our daughter? Her mother? I felt like I did not even deserve to shed the tears that wouldn't stop. I was trying my best to not dishonor her more than I already had by shedding these tears. Why was I doing it?It was not like she could see it.It was not like I could manipula

_____...○ ○ ○ S A R A H ○ ○ ○.I have always hated my own life. Too much expectations. Too much pressure. No life other than work. It has always been a mess of sorts. The only good thing in all of this? The only feeling of belonging and non-judgement? My best friend. And her precious child. My godchild. And now, she was in danger. And I was not able to do anything that would help her. “Can you stop doing that?” Harry asked. I looked over at him and raised a brow. William's attention also turned to us. “Do what?” I asked. “I am not doing anything.”“Yes, you are.” William and Harry said in unison. “You are stewing. You are beating yourself up for whatever that has been happening as if you are responsible for all of this.” William said. Harry looked over at him, seemingly impressed. William looked over at Jackson, who was seated beside the cab driver. He had a faraway look on his face as he fidgeted with his phone. “And he is doing the same.”“Well, he does have so

_____...○ ○ ○ J A C K S O N ○ ○ ○ .“Monkey has started asking about Olivia. I don't know what to tell her anymore. I told Daniel about it and he said that he will manage the situation there. But how long are we going to distract Monkey from what's going on? And even if we managed to deal with Monkey, how the hell are we going to keep all of this under wraps from Cassandra?” I guessed this was the longest words I had ever spoken to Sarah in a stretch. She used to be pretty cordial with me when Olivia and I first got married. She did crack a few jokes about me stealing her best friend from time to time but she was convinced that I was a good guy and I would take great care of her friend. But ever since the truth had come out, she had been nothing but cold. And she had every right to be. But the developments that I was seeing between her and William, I hoped that we would be able to put aside our differences as well. "It won't be long," Sarah replied. "We are going to find her

_____...○ ○ ○ S A R A H ○ ○ ○.I rubbed my eyes, trying to chase away the tears. I was tired, but more than that, I was scared. My best friend had been going through the worst in her life for the past few years, and I did not think that was fair. She had done nothing to deserve this."You okay?"I rubbed my eyes furiously before turning to face William, and I nodded. "I'm fine. I just don't know what to do right now.""We'll figure something out."He sounded weirdly comforting, and I did not think a day would come when William Harvey, out of all the people in the world, would be the one giving me words of comfort."Why are you looking at me like that?" he asked."Like what?" I countered."Like you’re finding it impossible that I could say something like this."He shrugged, and I mirrored his motion, shrugging right back."Well, it is kind of hard to believe that you could say something like this," I said, nodding to myself, satisfied with my explanation."Now you're just e

_____...○ ○ ○ J A C K S O N ○ ○ ○.“What kind of father are you, Daniel?” I growled into the phone. Maybe I shouldn’t be doing this. Maybe I don’t even have the right. But this stupidity had dragged my wife into a crossfire she never should’ve been caught in, and that wasn’t okay with me."What on earth are you talking about, Jackson?" Daniel had the audacity to sound confused. "Is everything alright in Paris?"I gritted my teeth, and I could feel my blood boil. "You know that we are not in Paris," I told him. "You know that we are in California, and you kidnapped your own daughter. You got her kidnapped, and I know of this, and I am not going to let this off the hook."Daniel let out a humorless laugh, an almost maniacal one. He sounded like the villain of a movie - the kind who would rip your insides out if you messed with him."That's rich coming from you, Jackson Reign," he spoke in a very angry tone. "After all that you did to my daughter, you should be happy that I
