"I am so drained." I confided in my best friend, Sarah Hopkins. "I just can't handle all this nonsense anymore, Sarah."

"What's up, Liv?" She replied, "Your stupid Dad dumped more work on you again? Or did your Mom want you to meet her socialite friends to show off her perfect daughter?"

I fidgeted with my phone, balancing it between my ear and shoulder as I worked on the day's never-ending report. "Neither, though I think those might have been better. It's my and Jack's six-month anniversary today and they are throwing a huge useless party!"

"Oh yeah, I got the invite a month ago." She sighed. I could hear her typing away on her computer as well. "But I thought you said you wanted to keep it low-key?"

"I would have loved that." I slumped in my chair, taking a break from all the typing. "Jack has been making all these really sweet tiny gestures for the past five months. But the past month, he has been insanely busy and closed off so I figured it was my turn to do something nice for him for once. I had this midnight picnic at the private beach property planned out but my parents pushed for this ostensible party instead."

"And Jack agreed to it?" Sarah already knew the answer to that question. Jack gave great emphasis on harmony in the family so he was always making sure that my parents and his mother were content, happy and taken care of.

My husband was such a considerate loving man, even though he seemed off and distant the past month - well, he did have a merger and was ridiculously busy so I could not blame him.

But he always made me feel seen and heard and was my anchor in this hellish corporate world that my parents had raised me in.

I hummed as I opened a message from my mother on my laptop.

CASSANDRA SMITH: Pumpkin, why didn't you go for the fitting yesterday?

I let out a sigh. I was not saying that the life of a housewife slash socialite was easy. But I wanted to point out that it was easier than that of the senior sales manager of Beauty Smith, an extensive brand of beauty products spanning across North America and Europe.

I quickly typed down a reply.

OLIVIA SMITH: Don't they already have my measurements? I am sure Ursula won't get it wrong.

"My mother thinks I have all the time in the world. I will see you at the party?" I asked as I went back to the spreadsheet I was analyzing.

"I will try to make it." Sarah sounded like she would rather be anywhere else but there, which was not surprising because my parents' circle consisted of some of the shallowest bunch of people on this planet. "But no promises."

"Okay. See ya." I smiled as I cut the call knowing very well that Sarah was going to be there. She was always there for me without exceptions and I was there for her.

I sighed as I checked my message bar for any replies from my husband. Jack had not been picking up calls or responding to texts since he left the apartment in the morning.

My eyes darted to my mother's name where I could see her typing for the past five minutes. I rolled my eyes. I could tell she was really mad at me even though she was trying to rein in her temper since today was a good day.

I sighed again.

I wouldn't have complained about anything else if only Jack had replied to my messages.

"You look fabulous!" My Mom gushed as she twirled her finger, gesturing for me to twirl for her.

I rolled my eyes as I spun a three-sixty on my heels. "Happy?"

"Very, " she clapped. "Wait till Jack sees you in this. I am sure to have a grandchild in nine months!"

"Mom!" My cheeks were immediately on fire at her insinuation. "Jack and I have not discussed kids yet. But I imagine he too would want to push it for a few years until we settle into our careers."

"You both and your careers!" Mom rolled her eyes as if we weren't two of the more successful people out there.

There was suddenly an explosion of chatter.

The two of us looked around to see that everyone was looking between their phones and us. Me.

"What's going on?" I asked my mother even though I knew she had no idea.

Someone grabbed me by my arm and I turned around, my eyes wide with shock.

It was Sarah.

Her face was grim.

My heart dropped to my stomach. "What's wrong?"

Dread filled me up to my throat, bile rising with it. "Jack? It's Jack, isn't it? Is he okay? Tell me he is okay!"

"Oh, he won't be once I get my hands on him." Sarah's voice morphed into one of utmost fury.

Her reaction did nothing to curb my uneasiness.

"What are you talking about?" I asked.

Sarah took my hand as my Mom moved away to her assistant's side. My best friend dragged me away from the eyes of the huge mass, half of whom I was barely acquainted with, and into one of the ground-floor guest rooms of my parents' mansion.

"I need you to stay strong, okay?" She said in a rush as she pulled out her phone from her dress pocket.

"Huh?"

She had opened something on her phone but she sighed, her shoulders slumped as she looked up at me, her eyes moist.

"What's wrong? What's wrong with Jack?"

Sarah threw her arms around me and hugged me tighter than she ever had.

"What's wrong?" My voice was not above a whisper.

"I am so sorry, baby!"

She rarely called me baby. She only did it when she or I felt extreme emotions.

Was my Jack dead?

No, he was not.

She wouldn't have been furious at him if that was the case.

Did he...

"He cheated on you, baby."

I felt my knees give away and the only thing that was keeping me on my feet was the protective hold of my best friend on me.

"You sure?"

I knew she was sure. This was Sarah Hopkins. She would not say something so cruel to me without making sure it was indeed my reality.

I felt her nod against my shoulder as I felt tears trickle down my face.

"With some bitch named Elena. It's all over the internet."

Definitely a scum bag! Calling his own child a spawn? Hope his life becomes very miserable with whom he chose, and she leaves him penniless! And that he is so remorseful, and Olivia has a beautiful happy life. <3

That could be an artificially generated video. It doesn't even look like her, and not to mention that she has all these plasters and bandages that her face is barely recognizable."I don't know. I need to take a chance," I told him. "I do not care about a little corpse anymore. If there is even 0.0001% of Olivia coming back, then I am willing to take that chance and bet my everything on it.""Reign, I know what you are doing, and I understand how you are feeling right now, but let's be real, this is Thomas Abrams we are talking about, he's a total piece of shit, and he literally kidnapped your daughter, his own granddaughter, for whom he has no real affection, so that he can have everything that is yours and hers. I don't know to what extent he would go."I shook my head. I knew that my best friend had a

And that was exactly the reason why the man was standing right in front of me, holding the hand of the little girl he separated her mother from. Thomas smirked at me before looking down at Kelsey. "Alright, marshmallow, time to go back to your Dad."My blood boiled at the nickname he had given her. But what made my stomach drop was the look of sadness and disappointment on Kelsey's face."But I don't want to go, Grandpa!" She whined. "I don't want to go back with Daddy!"My blood ran cold. He had successfully manipulated my daughter into thinking that he was the good guy? How low could this man stoop?"Oh honey, we will meet whenever you want." Thomas had that glint in his eyes, something I saw as a threat. He was never meeting jer ever again. I was going to make sure of it. "Monkey, let's go." I said. She looked over, big teary eyes and trembling

There was no way I was going to believe half the things he said - he wanted a rift and he would get exactly what he wanted if I fell for his lies. But the first half, I was willing to believe - to bet on. That Olivia was alive. It was one thing I wanted to hear and I was willing to believe even if it was a lie. I needed that hope. I needed that purpose in life. “I don’t believe you.” I lied. “There is no way she could be alive. I saw her body. I watched her being lowered to her grave.” “Toasted to the point of unrecognition and buried in a closed casket.” He tsked, “How convenient, don’t you think?” “Unless you did it, there is no way anyone else could have.” I baited. “Who else would try to hurt her?” “No one hurted her.” He said dismissively. “That’s what I am trying to say, boy. She was not hurt. She was strategically taken out of the picture so that you will live in guilt all you

She was not used to ever being without me. “We completely understand what you are saying, Ma’am, but you really need to understand that you are very hurt, and no one is allowed in here, and those of us who are using state of the art sterile equipment so that you don’t get any infection. And also, your child is very young, right? Seeing you like this would be traumatizing for her.” The nurse was middle-aged, and she was so sweet. Her name was Petra.“But I feel fine,” I argued. “You are not fine, though.” She said sympathetically. I sighed. I had plasters all over me. They said I was burned to almost the point of no recovery, but the advanced medical procedures were bringing back some sort of normalcy. And I was attached to a titered machine pumping painkillers and immunosuppressants into me, almost num

_____... ○ ○ ○ J A C K S O N ○ ○ ○.The place was a battlefield. It was clear that Sarah had given her all to fight off the six intruders caught on the security footage before she was stabbed. My eyes burned as I fought back tears. My daughter was with them. Daniel? Thomas? I did not know for sure. But I was betting on Thomas. There was no way Daniel Smith was sending in armed men into a room with Kelsey in it. The cops updated me on everything that they were doing to track down the SUV that the intruders got into with my unconscious baby. I looked over at William - he was on the phone with Harry, trying to get updates on her ongoing surgery. When he hung up and looked at me, I spoke, “There isn’t much to do here. You should go to the hospital.” William scoffed. “Right.” “You don’t have to-” “I don’t have to, but I will, because I happen to love my niece.” “You also love Sarah, though.” I was waiting for the man to admit it to me on his own accord, but now that

I thought you stopped.” I smiled as I looked up at him from where I sat on the carpet. “I did. These are all for you.” He raised a brow. “You have chosen the healthier lifestyle, so now you want me to die faster?” I let out a laugh. “That wouldn’t be too bad, actually.” William rolled his eyes as he dropped one of the couch pillows beside and plopped down on it. He fished out a bottle of brandy. I raised a brow - I always knew that he had his eyes on it. “Carefully, buddy, I am pretty much the only friend you have.” He smirked and then added, “Unless you add Elena. She is more than happy to come comfort you. Especially now that she is getting a divorce from that cuckhold of a husband.”I gave him a look. “That guy worshipped the ground she walked on. I don’t think she would ever get anyone better than him ever.” W
