Chapter Five

With nervousness, Emily immediately put on her dress and walked quickly to the door.

"You did it!" Olivia shrieked cheerfully. Emily just grimaced, of course, Olivia knew everything, and she must have been watching Emily and Gabriel through surveillance cameras.

"Go back to your room, starting from now, you can't drink alcohol or indulge in drugs. Only eat nutritious food," Olivia said very kindly.

Emily nodded, she looked at Olivia confused, how could someone want a baby so much that she was willing to see her husband making love to another woman?

"Then, excuse me," Emily said politely, with her head bowed as she walked away from Olivia.

At the bottom of the marble stairs, Dorothy was waiting for her.

"You're awake?" said Emily, somewhat surprised.

"I have to make sure you go to bed on time and take your suppliments," Dorothy replied flatly. Emily took a deep breath and followed Dorothy's broad steps in front of her.

"Are you going to stay here and wait for me to finish showering?" she asked, shaking her head in disbelief. Dorothy shrugged as she flipped through the magazine in her lap. Emily huffed in annoyance and went into the bathroom.

"Get into bed, I'll watch over you until you sleep," Dorothy said as she plopped down on the sofa.

Emily rolled her eyes, "How can I sleep if someone else is watching me!" Emily snapped, feeling a little embarrassed. So much had happened that night.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to yell at you, I know you were just doing your job but isn't this a bit too much?" Emily added, her intonation softening.

“As you said, I was just doing my job, so now go to sleep so I can sleep too," said Dorothy emotionlessly. The events from that day kept on replaying in Emily’s mind. She could feel his stubble on her lips. She could feel his weight when she closed her eyes.

Emily lay down on the bed, then tilted her back to Dorothy who was busy reading magazines. Every time she closed her eyes, the image of Gabriel's face sighing above her body always popped up.

She opened her eyes again, then blinked a few times, trying to dispel the ridiculous image. Then she tried to replace Gabriel's face with the face of her mom who was lying weakly on the hospital bed.

She had to stay in this place whatever the conditions so Olivia was willing to pay for it. According to the contract she signed, if after the first sexual intercourse, she did not become pregnant then she had to do a second, third, fourth, and fifth try. If she still wasn't pregnant, then her job would be over and Olivia would pay her accordingly.

"Umm, Dorothy can I ask you a favor..." Emily turned to look at Dorothy.

Dorothy looked up from the magazine she was reading, "Whatever, I was assigned to meet all your needs," said Dorothy with eyes bloodshot from tiredness.

"Could you ask Olivia when she will transfer the money for my mom's surgery because she needs the surgery as soon as possible, she's in very bad condition..." Emily swallowed hard, trying not to cry.

"Okay, I'll ask her tomorrow morning, now go to sleep! I'm very sleepy too!" said Dorothy, her jaw clenched to keep her mouth from yawning. Emily smiled and nodded.

She turned around again when she felt worried and unsure of the choice she had made, she chose to imagine her mother's recovery. That way she felt a lot better. It wasn't long before Emily's eyes finally closed…

Emily opened her eyes slowly, her gaze automatically falling on the khaki sofa Dorothy used to sit on, but it looked empty. She lazily got out of bed, then opened her cell phone, it was eight in the morning.

Emily was used to getting up early, so she found it very strange to be up so late. With her eyes fully awake she dragged her feet towards the bathroom.

After brushing her teeth, washing her face, and changing clothes, Emily decided to leave her room. Maybe she could get acquainted with the other household staff. Passing Gabriel’s room, she got flashes of the previous night. She got distracted by her thoughts until she heard glass breaking from the room.

She’s tempted to go in until she hears Olivia screaming profanities at Gabriel. Curiosity gets the best of her until she realizes it’s none of her business.

Emily's steps were light as she walked down the hall to a door that directly connected to a new granite path leading to a large garden from which Emily could see the Specters' private golf course.

"Jeez! They are very rich! A private golf course? I never even thought about it!" Emily mumbled to herself.

"Yeah, that's how it is! People like us will never be able to get it," someone suddenly responded, causing Emily to automatically look back. A beautiful woman in maid's clothes was standing behind her holding a broom.

"Hello.

The housekeeper smiled back at Emily, "You must be Emily, right?" asked the maid, stepping closer to her. Emily nodded, could it be that everyone in this house already knew about her?

"Yes, I'm Emily," Emily held out her hand, wanting to shake the housekeeper.

"I'm Laura," Laura said without taking Emily's hand.

"Sorry, but we're not allowed to touch you, Mrs. Specter said it was for the hygiene of the fetus that might be in your stomach later," Laura said, rolling her eyes. Emily snorted with laughter.

"So everyone knows who I am?" Emily asked, a sudden burst of embarrassment turning her face pink.

Laura waved her free hand, "Of course! Mrs. Specter announced to all of us the day before you came," Laura said cheerfully.

"Don't be shy, before you, I've been in your position!" She added, looking at Emily understandingly.

Emily glared, “Really? What happened?!"

Laura took a deep breath, "Mr. Specter didn’t find me appealing I guess. Maybe it’s because I'm not as beautiful as you. By the way everyone already knows that you succeeded last night, so congratulations!" Laura exclaimed, not a hint of envy in her voice.

Emily's face was completely shocked, "Isn't Mrs. Spectersupposed to be very secretive about this?" asked Leah in surprise, "Why is she so open?" She added and turned to look at Laura.

Laura smiled, "We've all signed an agreement not to reveal anything we hear and see in this house," Laura said, her eyes glaring at the golf course with sorrowful eyes.

Emily was just about to ask Laura about her feelings when suddenly someone called her from behind.

"Emily! Can you accompany me for a walk?" she turned to the sound of the voice, the last person she expected to see, waiting for her.
