If he said he wasn't disappointed that the mysterious voice, the voice of the Black Devil itself, had gone, Spitfire would have been a liar.

He was also stupid. The voice had offered him a challenge, the opportunity to create an identity that Spitfire no longer felt he had. He'd been raised in a high-end no-fur farm to serve. Then when he'd been bought by Agent, Spitfire was groomed and trained to become a superstar in the Rodeo circuit. Everything in his life was set up to follow a specific path.

There was a formula and a plan for everything. Even when Agent discovered that Spitfire had a dominant streak and could bring toms to their knees, it had still been within the acceptable variances. He was still marketable and could serve the purpose he'd been purchased for.

Even once Agent had determined Spitfire was ideal for his experiments, there were plans and rules and Spitfire quickly figured out how to win, to get everything he wanted.
