"I want to get up, Erik," I whined from my bed. "Don't start, Mara," Erik warned me as he looked over my lunch.Erik took a very small bite out of every piece making sure to taste it for poison. A completely ridiculous idea as I had told them a dozen times. Nevertheless, they didn't listen. Ever since "the incident", I had barely been allowed to leave the bed much less the room. When I'd awoken, I had demanded to return to my own room. However, true to his nature, Tohr had refused my demands as well as refused to discuss them further."Come on!" I cried. "It has been three days!! Surely, I'm fully healed! I feel fine! I want to leave this blasted room!!"I got up out of bed and walked towards the closet, where I hoped there would be some sort of clothing options. I would take a bloody tent if that meant I could leave this damned room. "Mara, I mean it. Don't push this. Tohr will be back soon from the villages, and he fully expects to see you safe and sound and, in this room," Erik w
As we walked, I couldn't help noticing that Tohr shortened his long strides to match my much shorter ones. His arm stayed around my waist possessively as we strolled through the wide courtyard. I took my time noticing the small details of each building. They were all immaculately taken care of, and I noticed that if there was a problem someone was working on it. Each house had some form of a garden in front of or around it. Every fruit I had seen gracing my plate could be seen in the village, along with every flower they had used to decorate the room. Stalls lined the street in front of the house, and the owners were bowing to the king. They seemed to almost beg him to look at their wares. Tohr steered me through them and whispered for me to find something I liked. I shook my head, telling him it wasn't necessary. Yet, my eyes caught on a gorgeous necklace with a glint in it that reminded me of Tohr's eyes. The minute I gave it my attention, it was around my neck in a flash. One of
Chapter 27For the next hour, Tohr made a huge show of escorting the girl and I around the little market. By the time Tahwilla's mother came looking for her, the little girl was completely under Tohr's spell. The mother thanked Tohr for helping with her child and took her exhausted but bubbly daughter back home. Against my will, I felt my heart melt towards the man as he continued to wave at Tahwilla until she was out of sight. Watching him walk proudly around with the small child on his arm, showing anyone who dared question his stance exactly how wrong they were. Well, it kind of made it hard to not feel a little under his spell, myself. As we walked on towards the exit of the village, I couldn't help noticing how his people bowed and treated him with the utmost respect. And in some cases, adoration. Which wouldn't have been so bad if the bulk of those that came up to him were women. Several of them would casually touch his arm as if they had the right to do so. The sight sparked
Chapter 28I should have been freaked out more. I wanted to be freaked out more. However, I just couldn't. It was too amazing to be face to face with a creature that had always been considered a myth. It was easy to believe in the unbelievable when one was face to face with it. This whole place was my own personal proof that I hadn't been crazy all along. My own parents thought I was crazy. But I hadn't been… I hadn't been crazy… I laughed out loud and reached for him. He obliged and lowered his head down so I could touch the wide area on his snout."Oh, my God, you are beautiful," I whispered as I petted him. Much to my amazement, a deep purr came from his chest. I could feel his pleasure at my words and my soft, gentle touch along his nose. I wanted to touch his other scales to see if they were just as soft. However, he pulled away and chuffed again, shaking his head before he turned around giving me a closer look at his tail. The elegant slope of his back followed all the way d
"Oh my god! I swear it's like someone took every color of the rainbow and sprinkled it across your world," I spoke in reverence, standing at the edge of the lake."Thank you, little fyre," his voice came from behind me. I turned to him forgetting that to transform he had to be undressed. "Wow, umm, do you happen to have clothes hidden nearby or something?" I inquired in embarrassment. He chuckled. "Oh, my sweetness, you are going to have to get over your shame one way or another."I dropped my hands but still couldn't quite look at him. My eyes kept going above him to the sky or below him to his feet. "I'm sorry, I just can't yet. Please put something on," I replied, trying to keep my cheeks from being set on fire. He took a step towards me. Putting a hand under my chin, he held my face until I looked into his eyes. "I will get dressed. I had one of my people bring food for us and clothes for me," he told me, pressing a kiss to my forehead. I was a bit shocked that he had though
My jaw dropped. How were these decisions so easily decided by him? He wanted me as his mate... boom... I would become his mate. Boom... done. He wanted to sleep with me...boom... he sleeps with me. He wanted to win my heart and make me love him then that was what he was going to do."Just like that, huh?" I asked him finally. He opened the weaved basket and began pulling out the food for us. "Yes, just like that," he responded with such certainty that I would have sworn he thought he had already won it. I opened my mouth to explain why it wouldn't that easy, but the smell of the food reminded me that my stomach insisted on eating more. What the heck. I thought to myself. Might as well argue that point later. The basket was amazingly well-stocked for a small, weaved thing. Tohr pulled out various items that could be something akin to fruits and vegetables. As well as something that resembled cheese except it was blue. Then a bottle of what I would assume was their version of wine.
I giggled a bit feeling a bit goofy, then got angry. "You will do NO such thing. He did nothing wrong! He brought me food when everyone else would have had me starved! I offered to repay the kindness and share! No one told me that was a thing! He refused and ran out! I believe the guard laughed at him!" I shouted. He ground his teeth and took a deep breath. "What was his name? So, I may… thank him," he ground out. "You won't hurt him?" I asked dubiously. He let his breath out in what I swore was a draygony curse. "No, I will not hurt him," he promised. "Swear it!" "I swear I will not hurt this Draygon.""Cross your heart and hope to die?" I said with a giggle and goofy smile, feeling the urge to tease him. "Mara!" he shouted; his patience gone. Laughing, I took pity on him. "Fine! It was Treddian. But I promise if even one scale is discolored, you will have me to answer to," I snapped, glaring at him a bit."Treddian," he repeated gently."Yes. He greeted me as I came through
A painfully bright light pierced my eyelids, forcing me to leave the sweet darkness behind to be tortured by this blazing ball. I groaned and buried my head in the pillow, stubbornly refusing to let it win. What did I do last night? I asked myself, trying to convince the jerk with the jackhammer in my brain to stop using it."Good morning, little fyre," whispered a voice beside me. "Nooo," I groaned out. He chuckled softly, making me quell the urge to hit him, even though I didn't have the energy to even lift my arm. "You need to sit up and eat, sweet one. If you eat and drink a bit, you'll feel better," Tohr encouraged me softly."Oh god, no. No food," I whimpered. "Mara," Tohr warned. "Don't argue with me. I know what it's like to overindulge in Hars. You will not feel well until you put something in your stomach to soak up the juice." Sitting up slowly, I groaned as my head seemed to whirl with even that slight movement. The soft fuzzy blanket that had been wrapped around me be
