Chapter 24

The aroma of fish that my mother cooked swirls in my nose. Ugh! I missed this.

"Sorry about our dish, iho. I know you're not used to eating this but we can't find any meat right now, the meat was so rare that no one would sell it here in our barangay," mother said.

Dried fish, sardines, and fried eggplant were our dishes today. I don't know why our viand was like this. There was hidden meat, large fish, crab, shrimp, chicken, and bacon in the refrigerator. It just happened to be in our store. My forehead was frowning but when I saw dad's smile at him, I knew why. This is probably a trial for Gio. I just laughed at him.

"I-it's okay. I can't be picky about what to eat," Gio exclaimed. Mom was happy as well as my father.

"Oh hey, let's eat. Let's pray first. Scarlet, you lead the prayer," mother ordered and I nodded. Gio curled up next to me and frowned when he was looking at the dried fish. I just shook my head and started to pray.
