Getting rid of the evidence

The terror that Steve felt earlier quintupled immediately. This time around, however, he did not remain frozen in terror, because there was no time for that, and a sense of urgency had hit him.

He rushed over to where Victoria was lying motionless on the ground and checked for a pulse. He found a very faint one and sagged in relief.

Victoria was out cold though, and from the looks of her, she was going to be unconscious for quite a while, which was actually for the best, as he could go about discarding the corpses and think of how to convince her to keep her trap shut about the death of the girls.

He could not go to jail for something that wasn’t his fault, after all. So he got the bodies of the two girls in the car and went back to make sure that the door to his house was locked firmly, and no one could get into it.
