XVII: No better time
AFTER the dinner, Lisa invited her to an all-girls day out, which was next week, and though Cainan softly told her to turn the offer down, she nodded and smiled.
Cainan made his way towards the park where his car was and he told her to stand on the balcony and wait for him and while she waited for him, Ada took hold of her hands as she came to stand beside her.
“Mrs Abayomi,” she said with a light gasp as her action took her by surprise.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you, child.” She apologised.
She bobbed her head in understanding, “It’s fine.”
“I need you to take good care of him, Jasmin, he has been through so much loss and sorrow and most people don’t survive from such loss, but he’s as strong as he is stubborn and I’m glad he’s got someone with a strong will like you in his life.”
“You think I am what he needs?” Her voice was hollow and confused at Ada’s imputations.

Cainan has completely forbidden it last night when she informed him about it, but since he was her boyfriend and not her father or God, she did otherwise. She was sad about his refusal to let her do the job; she was going to turn it down even though that meant breaking her words, but after he smugly stated how he wanted a woman, he could have fun with even if that meant pushing her to her knees, she wanted nothing more than to give him the middle finger and that was exactly what she was going to do. Jasmin sat on the bench in the park close to the restaurant where she works, having lunch and though she noticed a few people stare too long at her, probably realising who she was, yet none dared to bring out their phone and take pictures of her. It made her feel happy and safe, but also anxious. Cainan's ability to infuse fear in people’s hearts, which compelled them to behave even in his absence, was still something she couldn’t comprehend.
