“What did you say, Jeff? You don’t have to marry me because I wanted to help…”

Jeff interrupted before she could finish. “No, it has nothing to do with that. This is the best thing to do. Our families have been tied together for years. Sealing that bond makes sense.”

Olivia searched his face, her eyes trying to detect even the faintest trace of alcohol. There was none. He was serious. That realization alone made her heart swell.

She moved closer and wrapped her arms around him. Her voice came soft and sugar-coated. “I knew you would come back to your senses. You can’t throw our love under the train, Jeff. We belong together.”

She leaned in and kissed him, slowly. This time, he didn’t move away. But he didn’t respond either. It ended as quickly as it started.

“I’ll need a proper ring,” she added playfully. “I’ll get one. Then we’ll talk about when and where to pop the question.”

He simply nodded. This may be the right step; it might be the only way to finally shut the door to ever

“And Angelie is the mother.”She turned the cooker off, placed the fried egg carefully on a flat plate, then finally turned to face him. The smile on her face was still there, but her eyes studied him. “I expected more than this. I don’t know, I thought you’d fling a spoon across the kitchen, shout, go silent, something crazy, not this… calmness”She shook her head and placed two mugs of tea on the table. “Come on, Jeff. I’m not stupid. I run a company, and I read people for a living. I already suspected you were hiding something. The chemistry between you and those girls? The way you looked at Angelie? I could’ve ignored it, but it wasn’t just once or twice. Then grandpa confirmed your brother’s marriage to her was only on paper, and it made sense because he was never in the picture.”“Grandpa didn’t go into details, but I was and still curious, you know, why he married her and she accepted, not an easy nut to crack.”Jeff exhaled deeply, like the weight had finally left his lungs.

“I told you this already, Mum. I didn’t have sex with him, so you don’t have to worry about him being the father of my kids. There was a time when I wanted it to be true, but not anymore.”Pat stood quietly for a moment, holding back the rest of her words. She reached into the pocket of her night robe and slowly pulled out a folded piece of paper. “Just read this,” she said, handing it to Angelie.“What is this, Mum?” Angelie asked, already taking the paper. Her voice was steady, but her fingers trembled slightly.“It’s a DNA test result. I ran it in three different hospitals after Lucas accidentally mentioned something that didn’t sit well with me. I didn’t want it to be true, Angelie, but I had to be sure.”Angelie’s eyes scanned the page. Her expression changed in seconds; what was once calm quickly turned cold and pale. Her hands crumpled the paper as her lips pressed into a firm line. Then she turned a sharp glare at Pat.“You had no right!” she shouted. “You had no right to run

“Grandpa, whatever decision Jeff must have made, it’s his to make. You need to rest, stop bothering yourself over it,” Fred said gently, rising to walk him inside. “Would you like some cold tea? The night’s drawing in, and it might help calm your nerves.”Grandpa Lu chuckled, shaking his head. “Days like this, I hate that you’re so loyal to my grandson. I knew you wouldn’t spill anything, but I had to try.” He patted Fred’s shoulder softly. “Still, I’m grateful you’re in his corner. I’ve never regretted taking you in after that night.”“Thank you, Grandpa,” Fred said quietly.“I’ll be on my way then. I know you hate being disturbed late.”*********************Angelie sat at a modest wooden table in an open restaurant. The place was already buzzing even though it was still early. The aroma of hot beverages danced through the air, mostly from fresh Nestlé tea. She watched a woman trying to coax her sleepy son into finishing his drink. They looked like they were late for something.Luca

“Sorry, I didn’t mean to sound disrespectful,” Mr. White said, directing his voice at the board, “but Mr. Lucas here has no clue how to run this company. He’s barely around. We all know Morris handed him a portion of his shares, but that doesn’t make him qualified. Especially not now, when the company just recovered from a serious financial blow.”“I beg your pardon, Mr. White,” Lucas replied, his voice clear and slightly raised, standing to his feet without hesitation. “I have a degree in Business Administration, and I’ve been working behind the scenes to make sure this company stays solid. Just because I haven’t been physically present every day doesn’t mean I’m ignorant about how things work here.”He slammed his palm on the polished surface in front of him, not caring if it startled anyone. Jeff glanced up from where he sat and added calmly, “He’s telling the truth. He’s been quietly active, and I trust he’ll take this company to greater heights.”Jeff didn’t wait to hear any coun

Lucas's lips curved into a satisfied smile. "Of course, you would say yes, but that was fast. That means you trust me," he said, letting out a low chuckle. His eyes danced with mischief as he took another step forward, his posture relaxed like someone who had just scored the winning goal. "We’re heading somewhere, brother. So now, tell me, what are your terms and conditions?"Jeff didn’t waste any time. He knew Lucas, and any delay would give him room to twist things. "I’ll hand over the company, but first, you must divorce Angelie. I want you far from her life, and not another stupid offer from you. And secondly, this stays between us. No one must know, not our mother, not Dad, not Grandpa. This is strictly confidential. If you can agree to all these, I’ll ask my lawyer to draft a contract. Then we have a deal."Lucas clapped once and spun slightly, doing a small dance that made it look like he had won a jackpot. His laughter bounced off the walls. "We have a deal, brother. Send the

“Angelie isn't aware, and I want it to remain that way. Focus on your life, your upcoming marriage, and stay far away from my child. She is finally moving on, and I want it to stay that way. Olivia can give you as many kids as you want. Now, if you don't mind, leave my house before my children return. I'll ask the maid to show you the way.”Her voice didn’t rise, but the firmness in her tone carried all manner of seriousness. Jeff stood there, momentarily stunned, feeling as though the ground beneath him had shifted. He opened his mouth, but nothing came out. The sound of the housekeeper’s gentle voice broke his trance. “Please, sir, let me walk you out.”He nodded slowly and followed, his body was already too weak to make another argument. He hadn’t expected this. Not this, not like he had an expectation.****************“Are you in there, son? Should I come inside?”Pat’s voice was soft but close enough to make Elizabeta’s eyes shoot wide open. She scrambled to grab her dress from
