Mercy's pov

"Mate!" Eden shouted and I simply agreed at first.

"Yeah, yeah, eden. Mates, cool." I commented before trying again to shut off my consciousness. Then the word truly hit me. Not mate, as in one. MateS as in more than one. "Wait, mates! What the fuck?"

I shoved my way forward trying to take control. Eden resisted at first and then relinquished control. It felt strange at first to be in control.

"This isn't happening. There are three of you and one of me. This has to be some kind of nightmare. I mean I turned into a giant monster and I'm hearing voices. Maybe I'm crazy." I rambled pulling myself from the strange man. I paced back and forth chewing on my nails as memories of the last week passed by in flashes.

"Mercy, it's okay." One of them said reaching for me.

"Don't fucking touch me!" I screamed flinching away. Hurt etched itself across his face immediately and I regretted yelling. I didn't know him but something told me he wasn't to be feared. Not by me.

"Mercy, you must not remember me. I'm Xion. These are my brothers, Xane and Xenon. We won't hurt you." Xion said stepping forward like he was approaching a wounded animal.

"Not going to hurt me? Ha! He was a giant dog less than five minutes ago." I said turning to point at the version of him standing completely naked before me. I averted my eyes when I noticed his shameless lack of clothing.

"Don't look away. We should admire." The silky voice in my brain demanded.

"You be quiet." I answered aloud only to have the men look as though I've lost my mind. "How long have I been here?"

"You've been here for a day and a half. It seems you were exhausted and slept most of the time." Xion said stepping closer. This time I took a step back in response.

"What am I? What are you?" I said looking at the one he called Xane.

"All of us are werewolves. As for how you are one but weren't raised in our world if troublesome. Wolves have packs or they live in the north." Xane answered with a sharp indifference. He seemed more annoyed that I wasn't from here.

"I know nothing of this world. Monsters aren't real. Not in this sense. Monsters are just evil people. Werewolves don't exist, right?" This time I turned to Xenon for answers. He looked slightly hurt but hid it quickly. He stood towards me and reach me in for soft strides. Before I could react he reach out and gentle touched me face. His fingers left a tail of goose bumps and warmth behind.

"Does this feel real to you? And as for monsters, my love, we're only monsters when we have to be." He said lifting my chin to look at him. We stood for a moment just staring art each other. The world seemed to tilt a little as new feelings clicked into place. My body felt like I had been floating in warm water.

"What is a mate? What are you guys to me? What am I to you?" I asked, my voice barely a whisper.

"A mate is the missing piece of a soul. The perfect match to someone else. Their equal. What we are to you is your choice, but for us you are everything. Our sun and moon, all the stars in the sky. You are the person we've been waiting for for nine years now. You are the very reason for it existence. Now that we have found you, we'll do anything to keep you safe." Xenon answered. The forest suddenly felt a little too hot, too crowded. Xenon pulled me against him and his scent filled my nostrils overwhelming my senses. He smelled of cedar and the forest after rain. My chest began to get a little too tight and I couldn't breathe. Before I could even pull away I was ripped into darkness without warning.

"There you are, Nashoba Tohbi. I've waited so long."

  • The Chaos Mate   Ch 35

The morning air smelled of crisp woodsmoke, roasted squashes, and the heavy, sweet scent of fermented apple cider.A quiet, festive bustle transformed the stone courtyards of the Citadel as the Northern Ridge Pack prepared for Samhain—the ancient harvest festival that marked the transition from the golden light of autumn to the dark, freezing grip of true winter. It was a time to honor ancestral spirits, lay down winter provisions, and gather warmth before the heavy blizzards sealed the mountain passes.Massive iron cauldrons simmered over open braziers in the lower yard, filled with thick venison stew and spiced root vegetables. Pack elders and children worked side-by-side, stringing dried apple garlands, bundles of dried sage, and sweet mountain berries across the high arched wooden walkways.I stood on the upper terrace, pulled close against Xane’s solid frame as his arm wrapped possessively around my waist to shield me from the biting ridge wind. Beside us, Xion and

The ride back through the mountain passes under the twilight sky was quiet, save for the rhythmic crunch of hooves against the deep snow and the howling winter wind. When our vanguard passed beneath the iron-reinforced gates of the Citadel, the tension of the frontline melted into a profound, bone-deep weariness. Guards stationed along the parapets lowered their blades in silent, reverent salute, their expressions filled with hard-won awe. We had held the line. The Scourge probe had been shattered. Once inside the privacy of our upper suites, the heavy veneer of command slipped away. Xane unbuckled his iron pauldrons with a heavy sigh, letting the metal armor drop onto the stone floor with a dull clatter. Xenon sank onto the edge of the large fur-draped bed, his broad shoulders slouched slightly, while Xion leaned against the stone window frame, his breathing slow and measured as he rubbed a hand over a shallow gash across his forearm. Even with victory ours, the toll of channelin

The roaring iron hearth at the center of the Great Hall cast a warm, golden glow across the long oak tables, chasing away the bitter chill of the mountain night.Tonight, the Citadel's grand hall wasn't filled with the tense clatter of armor or the heavy whispers of war strategy. Instead, the air was rich with the mouthwatering scent of roasted venison, spiced cider, and sweet hearth-baked bread. Lanterns filled with clean-burning pine oil illuminated the high cedar rafters, where evergreen boughs still hung from the coronation. At the head of the central table sat Xane, Xion, and Xenon, stripped of their heavy military plating, wearing comfortable dark tunics that mirrored the relaxed, unhurried atmosphere. To my right, Patience and Eli laughed quietly, sharing a platter of roasted root vegetables while arguing good-naturedly over the last piece of spiced honey-cake."If you steal that potato, Eli, I'm telling Xion to double your push-up drills tomorrow," Patience tease

The winter sun rose pale and clear over the jagged peaks of the Northern Ridge, casting long shadows across the frosty training grounds of the Citadel. The air was crisp and biting, smelling faintly of crushed pine and woodsmoke. Down on the lower stone terrace, the sound of wooden swords clattering echoed rhythmic and sharp against the mountain walls.Mercy stood at the edge of the stone gallery, wrapped in a dark fur-lined cloak that framed the glowing silver runes at her neck. Beside her, Xane leaned against the balustrade, a thick parchment ledger of pack trade routes open in one hand, though his silver-flecked eyes were fixed intently on the yard below.Down in the snow, Xion was putting Eli through a relentless series of defensive pivots."Lower your center, Eli!" Xion called out, his voice carrying effortlessly across the yard. He tapped Eli’s wooden blade lightly, sending a vibration up the boy’s arm. "If an Alpha lunges, you don't fight their force directly—

The heavy fur rug by the hearth radiated the dying warmth of the fire, but the air between Xane, Xenon, and me was suddenly scorching. Before I could catch my breath from their sudden, breathless return, Xenon’s massive hands slipped beneath my knees and shoulders, lifting me effortlessly into his arms as if I weighed nothing at all."Upstairs," Xane commanded quietly, his silver-flecked eyes burning with a dark, unyielding intensity as he turned and led the way toward the grand spiraling stone staircase that led to the master suite. The climb up the winding steps was swift. Xenon carried me with an easy, terrifying strength, his chest rising and falling against my side, while Xane walked close beside us, his hand resting possessively on my hip, his fingers mapping the curve of my body through the silk of my robe. When we reached the heavy oak doors of the master bedchamber, Xane pushed them open with a single shove. The room was vast, dominated by a massive, fur

The clock in the Citadel tower struck midnight, its deep, resonant chime echoing faintly through the stone corridors. Outside, the mountain wind howled across the snowfields, rattling the heavy iron window shutters. Inside, the private quarters felt unusually empty. Two days prior, a sudden diplomatic crisis on the eastern border had forced Xane and Xenon to mount up and ride out with a detachment of senior hunters. They were hours away, buried deep in the eastern valleys, leaving the fortress under the quiet watch of Xion. I lay awake in our massive bed, staring up at the timber beams. The silver marks on my collarbone thrummed with a steady, rhythmic warmth—a constant, glowing reminder of the bond. Even miles away, I could feel the faint, distant hum of Xane’s strategic focus and Xenon’s heavy, grounded presence. But the distance created a restless, aching itch beneath my skin. The silver wolf inside me paced, missing the weight of all three mates at once.
