Chapter 32

Zoe

Matt chats away as I pack up my bag and stand to leave, putting a hand against the rough wooden rail beside me to keep my balance. The foal is fine but very nervous and it’s made me feel a bit off my game. I’m still feeling a bit light-headed. I must be coming down with something. Peeking over the side of the stall, Leah is still sitting on a hay bale, petting Matt’s old sheepdog. She has been no help at all. I have no idea why she bothered coming.

“Again, thanks for coming out, Zoe. I’m way behind on chores. Is it okay if I head out?” Matt asks, lifting his hat and wiping his forehead with the back of his hand. His smile is warm and friendly, and I’m reminded of what a genuinely nice guy he is. He’ll make someone a great husband.

“Of course. I’ll call you in the morning to see how you’re doing.”

He tips his hat to me and pushes the stall door open before slipping through. My heart jumps into my throat when I hear Leah’s laughter and a deep rumble that I would recognise anywhere.

Lol I loved when Zoe threw a ball of shit and hit Blake!!! I can see the country girl in her. It's something I would have done too. I laughed all through it. Great job there
