Chapter 14: Damien's Strange Behaviour

Ariana's POV

I watched from under the bed. I saw Michael walk towards the door. The door opened, and Michael exited my room. I slowly came out from under the bed. The contract was still lying on the floor where I had dropped it. 

What am I going to do? I thought as I scanned the room.

I walked towards the door and tried to open it. I turned the doorknob, but it failed to open. I remembered Miriam opening it with a card, but she didn't give me the card.

I thought this type of door only needs the card when you are entering, not when you are exiting. I walk back to the bed. I knew I had been locked inside the room. Stay in your room at all times. One of the rules from the contract.

I thought of something and entered the bathroom. I stood on the toilet seat and opened the small window above it. My body will fit. I looked out the window and realised it was a long way down. I didn't have a rope or anything. 

"And what do you think you are doing there?" I heard the deep male voice and freaked out. 

I slowly got down from the toilet seat and turned around. I came face to face with the person who had spoken. My heart skipped multiple beats.

"I was just looking out the window. Exploring my new environment," I said and managed a smile, staring at Alpha Damien. 

"Looking out the window?" Alpha Damien repeated, sounding very calm, and I just nodded.

I am meeting him for the second time, he doesn't sound like the ruthless person I have heard he is. I will agree, earlier on, inside his office, I got a little scared when I was left alone with him. 

"Michael, leave us," I heard him say.

I was still standing inside the bathroom, with the door wide open. Damien was just standing at the foot of the bed, and Michael was standing next to him. At his command, Michael bowed to him and exited the room immediately.

As soon as Michael left, Alpha Damien walked towards the couch and sat down.

"Come here, Ariana," he said, not at all looking in my direction.

I obediently returned to the room and closed the bathroom door. He seems okay, but I still have my head filled with the rumours of how he deals with humans. 

"Stand where I can see you," he said calmly when I stopped in the middle of the room.

I took a couple of steps closer to the couch where he was sitting and stood behind the small table in front of the couch.

"Have you signed the contract?" he asked, staring at me with his deep green mesmerising eyes. 

I lowered my head to stop myself from admiring his features. In my mind, I reminded myself of who he is and hate for the humans of which I am one.

"No, please," I replied, obediently.

"Why?" he asked calmly.

Okay, now that is strange. I thought he was going to get angry like Michael, but no, he was rather calm. I swallowed and thought about my answer carefully before saying it. He was calm, I intend to keep it that way.

"I mean no disrespect," I began. "I was just uncomfortable with the terms in the contract," I added honestly.

"What are you uncomfortable with?" he asked and crossed his legs over the other.

"Erm, everything," I said, my voice dropping to a whisper like I didn't want him to hear.

I took a step back and tried to look at him even though I had my head lowered. There was a prolonged silence. I knew I was in trouble. One thing I was certain of, he was not going to kill me, at least not now. I only wondered what kind of punishment he would give me for disrespecting him.

"Okay, scrap the rules on the paper. We will have a verbal one," I heard him say, and I was shocked.

Did he just compromise? I thought, surprised.

"Do not go anywhere, or invite anyone in, without my permission," I heard him say. 

Wait! What? I thought.

"Do you understand?" he asked me.

"Yes, please," I agreed. It was better than the ridiculous rules on those two pieces of paper.

"I still have to pay you for your service. So tell me, what do you want?" he asked.

Wow, no one has ever asked me such a question before. I always have to deal with what I am given. That is how I was brought up in the orphanage. 

"Can I get a job?" I asked. "I don't want to sit around doing nothing," I added.

"Okay," he said to my surprise.

Was he going to give me a job, just like that? I thought. Okay, this Damien has a strange behaviour. I thought, staring at him.

Well, everything I have heard about him was a rumour. There was no evidence of the stories of how he treated humans. 

"Tomorrow, at 7 am, you will come with me to the office. Michael will teach you what to do," he said, and I didn't know whether to jump or just act professional.

"Thank you," I appreciated, unable to help but smile.

I know he is the CEO of Dakota Jewelries. If he is offering me a job in his company, it's going to be a position better than what I had in the restaurant. I thought and smiled.

"It's settled then," he said and stood up.

 I took another step further away from him.

"Your clothes will be delivered in two hours," he said and walked towards the door.

"I can't open the door from inside," I said, staring at his back.

"Miriam, will get you your key," he said, without bothering to look at me.

He exited the room, and I did a victory dance, but I quickly remembered why he was doing that. I am pregnant with his child. 

Recalling the pregnancy, Damien's strange behaviour made sense to me. I walked to the bed and sat on it. 

I still need to figure out a way to leave this place. I am not going to cut ties with the child I carried for nine months. I will agree to co-parenting, but I will not cut ties with my child.
