Chapter 4
Maya's pov
I fiddled with my fingers, kicking my legs back and forward as I waited for her to speak, to break the uncomfortable silence that had been growing steadily since I stepped into her room and sat on the bed.
“Maya, how could you do this to me?” She asked her voice painfully low, like a whisper escaping through the cracks.
I tightened my fists on my lap.
“He's my mate, Madeline, I did nothing wrong.” I said looking at her, she pressed her palms against her face and sighed with her full chest.
“He's also mine too, I was really hoping that it wouldn't turn out this way. I've heard of this happening to twins but I was also told that it was a rarity to imagine that it would also happen to us too…” she paused again.
“Maya, you should have said something…all this time I had no idea, but you knew everything an-”
“He chose me,” I said, standing up to my full height and looking down at her.
She looked at me, her eyes soaked with tears and pity.
“Did he tell you that?” Her words came like a slap. “Did he tell you that he would choose you?”
I ran through my memories searching for a specific moment where Barry had clearly said he would officially make me his mate and all I could recall was arguments stemming from the issue rather than reassurance.
But Madeline had already caught us, so what else was I supposed to say?
“He will choose me.” I said.
“You really think so?” She said casually wiping off her tears and crossing her legs together.
“Two days from now will be a full moon, father will be celebrating another year as Alpha…I don't think there will be a better opportunity for buried to announce who his true mate is,”
She got up, sweeping back a strand of hair that had straight onto her face.
“I hope that, when that time comes, you accept his choice.”
“Same for you, don't go crying hysterically if things don't turn out the way you want for the first time ever.” I said, my voice sharp.
Her brow furrowed slightly.
“What do you mean by that?”
I turned around to leave, slamming the door on my way out, there was no way I was entertaining a question like that.
She really had everything thrown on her lap since we were born and yet she didn't understand? What a joke!
He was going to pick me; there was no way he could do anything else.
The next couple of days I attacked my chores with vicious determination to finish up the voluminous list that had been given to me so that I could attend the celebration with ease.
So the night before the big day I was working on laundry, despite the cold I was dripping sweat because of how much I was working just then I heard the wooden floor creak and his familiar scent struck my nose.
“Barry,” I said, my lips subconsciously rolling into a smile.
I had been a bit upset about how he just wiggled his way out of that uncomfortable situation in my Dad's office instead of helping me to confront my sister, we had also not been able to talk for the past 2 days but when I saw him coming down the stairs all the anger seem to evaporate in my chest.
I missed him.
“Maya, is this a bad time?” He asked and I pushed the basket aside answering his question with a bone crushing embrace.
“Where have you been all this time?” I said and he chuckled a bit.
“I could say the same thing to you, I'm lucky I was even able to catch you here tonight.”
He said, before gently peeling me off of him.
“Look sorry about what happened in your dad's office, I was just shocked to see Madeline…”
He buried one hand in his pocket and used the other to take through his hair.
“So we're good now right?”
“Why wouldn't we be?” I said with a small smile.
“I'm guessing Madeline has already told you about what she's expecting tomorrow,”
I watched his face become pale after I said that and he broke into an awkward laugh.
“Yeah, your sister really likes to complicate things…but at least after tomorrow no more hiding I guess…”
My heart swelled up with joy when he said that and I kissed him, this must mean that he's choosing me so there would be no need to hide our relationship.
I rubbed my stomach thoughtfully while he was helping me load the clothes into the washing machine.
There would be one more secret I wouldn't have to hide from him after he had announced it.
And so the next day came along with the festivity, everyone both young and old came to celebrate there was plenty of drinking, dancing and socializing; all of which drained me.
As always my parents showed off Madeline as though she was an only child while I remained in my place; her shadow.
But with every minute that ticked away my smile grew wider, Madeline could soak up all the attention she wanted but at the climax of the night Barry would choose me!
He would do it publicly in front of our pack members that had never thought anything of me, and I would proudly stand by his side with my own announcement.
I rubbed my belly again, if the first announcement didn't shock them, then this definitely would.
Finally midnight came and it was time for my father to give his yearly speech, with a glass in hand he thanked everyone that had attended, excusing those that couldn't attend for worthwhile reasons, he gushed about sentimental nonsense saying a park was a family and other silly things like that.
I really had to hold myself back from laughing.
It was hard for me to even see my own family as family, much less a bunch of strangers that just happened to live in the same territory as me, but my apathy to his speech didn't stop me from enjoying the moments leading up to Barry's announcement.
He gave a toast and then finally surrendered the floor to Barry.
“Finally,” I said under my breath, my heart thumping loudly.
“As our alpha said, thank you all for coming, and thank you for granting me your ears the moon goddess blessed me recently by allowing me to meet my mate…the woman that I will spend the rest of my life with, the same woman who will bear all of my pups, the woman that will support me through all of my struggles…”
He paused.
He smiled looking at me then said; “Madeline, please join me.”
Chapter 5Maya's pov My heart sank deep inside my chest, my breath was heavy and the ground beneath my feet began to spin. Was this really happening? “I must be dreaming…” I whispered below my breath then looked up gulping down saliva, but the picture in front of me didn't change. My sister joined Barry with a broad smile on her face and then they kissed. Everybody cheered, the clapping soared above the sound of my sobs as I left running with tears rolling down my cheeks. As soon as I got inside my room, I threw myself on my bed, sobbing into my pillow. How could he? Didn't he say he was going to pick me? Did I do something wrong? I spun back my memories, what did I do wrong? Was I too pushy? I wondered as I finally lifted my head from the pillow. But he was always beating around the bush…I needed to tell him what I wanted because it appeared that he was fine with how secretive everything was. I wasn't though. Wasn't that the case with Madeline too? She asked him to
Chapter 6Maya's pov I heard a knock on the door and cautiously approaching it and squeezing the door handle. It was late into the night, even the headmaid wouldn't send me an errands by this time but I wouldn't put it past her anyways. “Who's there?” I asked, holding my breath. “Relax, it's just me,” The sound of Madeline's voice did everything but help me relax, even so to avoid suspicion I backed away from the door. “Come in if you want to,” “I didn't think I'd catch you awake by this time,” she said folding her hands together. “Why are you here, Madeline, to say ‘I told you so’... In that case, don't even bother I've already mentally butchered myself before you even walked into this room,” I tried it to keep my voice steady but it betrayed me stripping my feelings of inferiority from their mask. “There's no need to rub it in my face,” I said to have gesturing with my hands wide spread. “You win. You always freaking win in the end, and I'm always the loser. Are you
Chapter 7Maya's POV.‘Could this be real, or was I just dreaming?’ I thought to myself as my eyes rested on the tall, handsome figure that stood right in front of me. The air that had been filled with tension, almost to the verge of suffocation at the sight of the guards that had threatened to do the worse earlier suddenly felt light at the sight of him.The familiar hazel eyes left me in a daze for a few seconds as my mind wandered into the possibility of this entire new development being a reality or just a mind trick, I could not believe that the stranger I had a one-night stand with days ago was the Alpha of the new pack I had found myself in. I had forcefully stopped myself from harboring any thoughts about the stranger after the mating ceremony, knowing fully well that he was nothing but a stranger to me; I knew we would never cross paths, so there was no need to do that. But it seems like I was wrong, perhaps the goddess fated our path to meet again. “It's you? The guy fro
Chapter 8Maya's POV. “You are welcome to my home,” he whispered as we arrived at the enormous mansion that I had sighted from afar. I could only nod in astonishment as the size and beauty of this new environment consumed my mind, how in my mind, I was finally glad to take the ridiculous action of leaving home; at least it fetched me somewhere better. But then, I had to shorten my excitement; I don't really know what awaits me here, so it would be foolish for me to delve into celebration without being sure of what life holds for me in this new place. “Welcome, Alpha; how was the hunting?” A middle-aged woman approached us immediately. We walked into the mansion and greeted the Alpha, who I had met in the woods.“Not bad. Thank you, Marianne,” he responded with a light nod. “Take her to the visitor's quarters and tell the maids to attend to her every need. Also, get a room ready for her here in my quarters as soon as possible,” the Alpha instructed the middle-aged woman who was con
Chapter 9. Maya's POV. “Maya, you have to give that baby to me, or I will kill you and take her away!!” Barry's voice thundered from behind I was still looking around in the mist, searching for where to hide in the mysterious house. I found myself when a hand grabbed my hair and pushed me to the floor; I scrapped on the ground, clutching my baby to my chest as I tried to escape from the unknown person. I turned to see that it was Barry; he was with a sharp dagger, pointing it to my face as he tried to take the baby from me. “No, Barry, please don't do this,” I pleaded with tears as I struggled to stop him from taking the baby away from me. “He is mine, Maya. Let go off, or I will force you to do so!” He barked in rage as he forcefully took the baby away from me and stabbed me in the arm before running away with the baby. “No, no, no!!” I cried out in pain as I struggled to go after him but was too weak to stand. **********“No, no, my baby, my baby,” I cried and jolted awake,
Chapter 10. Maya's POV. I lay on the bed for some minutes after the maids left before venturing into my exploration in the room. I took a look at so many things in the room; the bathroom, the mini-library, the wardrobe and other beautiful artworks in the room. My search in the library was more like a tour, it was filled with quite a good number of interesting historical books about werewolf kingdoms in the centuries ago, and other business books. The Wardrobe was also filled with so many beautiful dresses that got me gushing out in admiration when I saw them. I was so filled with joy that I forgot everything about home and secretly prayed that this new-found joy stays. I stepped into the bathroom to shower up and get ready to meet this God-sent Alpha that had made my day delighted. Just in the bathroom, as I soaked in the warm water I had filled in the bathtub, my mind drifted away as several thoughts surfaced in my mind. I suddenly started to wonder why I was receiving such trea
Chapter 11Maya's POV. “Good morning Alpha” I greeted, my eyes fixed on the table to avoid meeting his gaze. “Good morning, how do you feel now?” He asked, scanning face. “I feel better, thank you for the hospitality” I said, finally moving my eyes to meet him. For some seconds, I was lost at the sight of his beauty. I never saw him in broad daylight, our first encounter was at the mating ceremony, and the second in the woods, at the boundary, both at night. I had only noticed his enormous height and his hazel eyes, but certainly not other features. He looked really handsome in the daylight, chiseled jawline, fully well carved brows and straight nose that was gracefully placed, soothing his beauty. His dark locks of hair run down to his shoulder, making him look more unique and handsome. I couldn't help but gush in admiration, though I quickly collected my senses, putting them back in others as I recalled what Barry did to me. It was still the same gender and I had to play caref
Chapter 12.Maya's POV. “Did you get my question earlier, or were you telling a lie? You obviously know what happens to liars, so just stay clean with me, and I don't like repeating myself,” he smirked coldly, staring dead at me for a response. I already sense what could be going on in his mind; this man was certainly not the same cool-headed man I met at the mating ceremony, or does he get so quick at anger? He was just being so kind one minute and the next, he was already staring at me like a hungry facing his prey. I knew at that point that I had to act wisely to avoid getting myself into trouble. “Yes I am, I–I'm pregnant” I stuttered in fear as the words came out of my mouth, wondering why he was being inquisitive, what it was that he wanted with my pregnancy. I secretly prayed to the goddess to protect my child and me. His expression seemed to soften a bit at my answer as he continued with his interrogation, a bit gentle this time around.“Was it from the incident that took
Chapter 79: Here's something to worry about.Kylian's POV “No, no, no. We have wasted so much time. I need answers right now, how do I catch up to Maya,” I yelled. Jennifer frowned looking downwards at her feet as she slightly wiggled it. My father was blank with idea and my mother simply tried to crash out for putting herself in this mess if a situation. The fear of making it to the wrong airport and miss Maya by chance made my blood simmer. I was happy and relaxed around her, there was no way I was going to to let her go. Putting up a fight against her departure was the only thing I could do.“Rex,” I called out “Grab one of the tickets. You will go to the first and I will head to the second,” I commanded.I couldn't afford to lose her and my pups. I hurried out of the gathering and rushed outside. “We will stop her no matter what,” I claimed.“Kylian, wait. I want to go with you. Let me make it up for being…”“Listen Dad. I'm pissed right now and the only thing that can stop me f
April 18th👇👇👇Chapter 78: Come at it twiceKylian's POV My trust was shattered by my mother's confessions. She pushed Maya away. All the while, I was thinking Jennifer had a major pull in this but to figure out my father had to be petty and drive her away, they broke all the hopes I had on them. I felt isolated and trapped in my home, just set apart to live differently. A plot had been going on and it was from those closest to me.My mother's eyes were filled with regret and shock. A shock from her realization that she had underestimated the love I had for Maya and a regret that stemmed from the situation they found themselves in.“I could have let out my anger on the wrong people,” I muttered, gaping at my parents. “What good is it if I don't pursue my feelings,”“I can't have you guys messing up my life each time you appear. Stop crossing your boundaries, I have let a lot of shit slide but I am not going to take it anymore,” I thundered.“I know dear, let's make it up to you,”
Chapter 77: Nothing I had never thought of.Jennifer's POV.Mrs Castle, the whining machine gave up, putting a pause and causing trouble for the entire household.A confession, that was sufficient to make me freeze and change my expression towards her. Of course it was going to be the whining simp to break first. My muscles felt like they were contorting as she stepped forward to save herself. I couldn't believe a war frightened Mrs Castle so much. Wasn't she supposed to be the wife of an Alpha? How weak willed could she be. I gnashed my teeth and glared subtly at her.She was ruining my chances. I knew Kylian was about to do it anyways, but at least I knew if they engaged in a battle it would buy me time to flee faraway with some loot.Surprisingly, just a moment ago when I had been gasping for an incident to intervene, I quickly changed and coiled back wishing for a reverse. “Anything but this, please,” I muttered.“Anything but telling Kylian the truth,” I repeated. My worry change
Chapter 76: The smart move of a con.Jennifer's POV.The night I had with Dexter was risky but worth it. I needed Dexter as much as our passion burned all night long.Since the start when I knew him, he always had a dark intention that he kept secret. He wanted to be the Alpha of the Red Phoenix Pack but he wasn't strong enough to challenge the mighty Alpha, Kylian. Some years ago, I was in bed with a stranger I invited over. Mere minutes from embracing him, Dexter stormed in with an emergency for Kylian but he was not around. He caught me holding hands with the stranger, I thought I was done for, especially when he kicked the stranger out. I begged him to keep my secret and I was also afraid that I would have to eliminate one of Kylian's trusted guards but tables turned for me in a way that I never expected.“Since when have you been cheating on Kylian,” Dexter asked me in an old, dusty room.“This is my first. I haven't done it yet but I'm not happy in this relationship and I don't
Chapter 75: It's Deeper Than You Think.Jennifer's POV Who said you couldn't get what you want by putting your mind to it? No one did, but I couldn't be happier for getting the edge over maya.“The main deal will always be preferred over some side piece,” I clasped my hands and fell to my bed in excitement. “Jennifer, Kylian's Luna. It sounds great. Oh, it must suck to be Maya right now,” I laughed loudly and rolled happily from each ends of my bed. Only a matter of time, then I'd woo his heart, move into his room and give him the time of his life. “A girl would do or another son,” I whispered to myself “We will have children to mark our reunion and the only thing I gotta do this time is not get caught,” A smirk escaped my lips and I willfully let out more, giggling like I was in a fantasy island that tickled me all night. My eyes refused to shut open from excitement. I couldn't wait to wake up tomorrow just to be greeted with the official news of her disappearance “Hey, Jennife
Chapter 74:A Raging Madness.Kylian's POV We were all out of our doubts. The speck of optimism that I had of Maya's presence had faded and the cool my parent's maintained, thinking I'd be sad and accept Jennifer, failed miserably. As Rex bowed his head to leave, my mother jumped forward to me, her face filled with worry.“Kylian you can't be serious. Don't tell me you plan to go into war because of a girl,”I glared fiercely at her and clenched my fists “A girl, huh? You still refer to her as a rando,”“Well, let me be clear. Those neighbouring packs have been daring for some time now and I will stop at nothing to get Maya back,” “Huh,” Jennifer muttered in disbelief.“This is madness,” my father interjected “You can't just march in to another territory and make demand without evidence. What are you? A tyrant,”“If that's going to get Maya for me, then I'd happily do it,” I fired back.“Son, let's take a breather. You are not thinking straight, okay,” my mother begged, clasping her
Chapter 73: Push past the boundaries. Kylian's POV “Gosh!” How stupid was I? I could have sensed from Maya's tone last night that something was amiss. She never wanted to talk about it and I just believed her. For the first time that I tried to keep my guard down, the worse happened. If I had my senses at an alert, I would have known when she got out of bed. I would have woken up with her and kept an eye for her.“I have told you. I know nothing of her disappearance,” Jennifer hurled her right arm at me and dragged her wrist out of my grasp. She was trying to get the attention of my parents. I could see the fear on her eyes, her legs were shaking miserably and sweat filled her face. “Nice try, Jen. You lied against her and put on an act yesterday, now she's gone and you expect me to believe you,” I uttered.“If you don't provide answers for me, I'll throw you in my prison,” “Then do it,” she clapped back. “I have been spending an eternity trying to beg for your forgiveness, but w
Chapter 72: A feeling of indifference.Kylian's POV The silence was piercing as I caught the faint resound of my echo. My little worry turned into anxiety and my anger began to simmer. I was sure she would be in the garden but she wasn't. Where the hell could she be in my palace? Absolutely, nowhere. The garden was the only place I frequently saw her but it was empty as a hollow box.I hurried to the kitchen in high hopes. She had to be there. There was no familiarity with Maya and the kitchen but I could not think of anywhere. “Maybe, she's trying to surprise me,” I tried to assure myself “She's there. I know it,”I imagined seeing her preparing breakfast and chatting with the maids. My hopes quelled my anger and stealthily, the speed of my pace increased massively.I had almost started running when I stopped and forced myself to relax “Nothing is wrong. Get a grip,” I tried to reassure myself. My confidence took a low spike downwards and I was a few minutes coming to an awful rea
Chapter 71: There's a rat in here.KYLIAN'S POV I laid sprawled across my plush fur lined bed, my chest rising and falling in rhythm. The night before this morning had been intense with passion. The bed was still warm with Maya's soft touch. I couldn't help but roll over to hold her by the waist.I grabbed a pillow instead and threw it softly after I failed to grab her waist but a satisfied smile still etched on my face. The memories of last night played nonstop in my head.I had totally forgotten how awesome it was when Maya and I got frisky together.I had slept enough and it was time I woke up to see her face in reality. I wanted to plant a tender kiss on her neck, something I believed would have been enough to set us in a mood.As my eyes blew open, the light from the morning sun, shone brightly to my direction. It revealed the empty space beside me, causing me to sweep the room with my eyes, my eyebrows slightly furrowed. The room was empty. Maya was gone.My instincts quickly
