Hot-headed Woman

★★★

“You asked me to marry you even though you already have a girlfriend. Is this some kind of plan you plotted against me? Is there a risk that you perceive will fall on your lover, which is why you chose me to slaughter as a pig?" Monica yelled at William as the bedroom door closed behind her. She couldn't let go of the fact that he already had a girlfriend, but he requested a one-year contractual marriage with her. This could hardly be for insignificant reasons.

“You are not allowed to ask me personal questions, as I have already stated. Furthermore, since I have already assured you that nothing bad will happen to you in this one year, the threat you fear will not materialize. Therefore, sit back and relax,” William coldly said, losing his tie around his neck.

“Do you wish for me to be deaf and blind? Do you want to act like a wooden doll whenever someone approaches me or makes a sincere attempt to offend me, exactly like your mother did? I can't let this happen because I detest it when people try to make me look horrible. Your mother has hampered my composure today, but nothing is going to prevent me from blowing up the next time," Monica replied in a firm tone as if she were issuing an ultimatum about what she would do if his relatives tried to attack her. She was not a pushover.

Turning back, William released his open cuff and squinted at Monica, wondering if she was trying to attract his interest. When he noticed that the girl's attention was not on him, she was speaking with a pissed face while opening the veil from her hair over her head, leading him to believe she was not acting. As a result, he could not stop himself from approaching her.

Monica removed the pins from her bun, allowing her ombre hair to cascade down to her waist. She didn't notice him approaching her, so when she felt a warm sensation near her hair, she jerked up to William.

"You frightened me! What happened?!"

Her chest heaved up and down with every breath she took.

William peered into her eyes deeply then his eyes rested on Monica's parted lips for a brief second, noticing how they were opened for air. His blood rushed up to his ears and he withdrew his eyes to himself but did not move away from her.

Some distinct troubles constantly battled inside him as long as he could whiff her smell. It led him to believe she did not use any chemical perfume but rather the scent was typically hers and he had previously come across.

“I can only advise you on how to react to events in my family. You have no idea what kind of people you will meet during your stay here, but as my mother has stated, we are not an average family. To the outside world, we appear excellent and peaceful, but on the inside, we are as dark as the thickest night,” William mumbled next to her face, limiting the words between them. He knew exactly what a fresh morning held in store for him; he just did not want her to be targeted by his family any time soon.

“I am not sure I understand what you are saying,” Monica said in a soft voice, observing the furrows on his forehead that typically show stress. If William was experiencing stress, what was the cause?

“Never allow your rage to interfere with your ability to remain calm. It is a good idea to observe until you have a thorough understanding of your surroundings,” William kept his remarks coherent, but it was all he could do for her right now.

“Can you not explain why you chose me for this when you could have anyone else?"

Monica asked quietly, her hand involuntarily going up to his face as they both stared at each other.

For a little while, William was unable to respond as if he had no answer to this question. There was a peculiar unrest in his eyes that was trying to convey a lot yet was difficult to read. At the time, he shoved her hand away from him and backed away from her. He scowled at Monica and stated angrily,

"Never try to touch me. I can be easily offended. This marriage is a ruse, based on a contract, so you don't need to use your intellect to believe that you are a wife."

Monica's hand remained in the air as she heard his merciless remarks, which flew into her blood like venom, infecting her heart, and she felt tears well up in her eyes. It had been a long that she could say someone still existed who could make her vulnerable. Since she left her aunt's house there had been no one who caused her tears out of her eyes until now.

“I will not touch you again, but please understand that I cannot bear my insult. You must either save me or I will cause havoc in your family,"

Monica spoke in a single breath before turning to face the closet and pushing her feet towards it.

Until he chose in which manner he should interact with her, she no longer wished to speak with him. She indeed wed him in order to remain near him, but that did not mean she would be fine with such treatment since in this new place she did not know anyone except him.

Resentful Monica applied pressure to get the door open so she could get some casual clothing. She knew he had arranged clothes for her because everything that had happened to her had followed his plan.

“This is not opening. Unlock it,” Monica said angrily.

At the time, she felt a gust of wind behind her carrying his scent, causing her to close her eyes as prompted her heart to relax. The tall figure gave her a gentle push, and his hand extended to the left, the door swung open with ease. Monica's heart leaped quickly into her chest. His words may be cruel and distant, but his body made her feel that he had not forgotten her.

“Your clothes are in different sections since I deeply despise others touching my stuff,” William explained as he took a step away from her.

Hearing this, Monica abruptly turned around and declared,

"I kissed you on the cheeks and the neck. I have already touched you. This cannot be your problem; rather, you have constructed this mental belief."

After saying this, Monica turned to face her wardrobe, reached for a nightgown, and hurried to change in the bathroom, leaving William perplexed in his place.

“This cannot be real,” William denied Monica's words in his head.
