No one truly knew what had happened to her. Every wound, every story—Nadine kept it all to herself, locked deep within her heart.

This morning, she had already dressed neatly, preparing to leave for the clothing store where she worked. She hoped no one would notice the bruises on her face. But her skin was so fair that every trace of the cruelty she had endured was clearly visible.

Nadine brushed her long hair, pulling some strands forward to cover the bruised side of her face.

She stepped out of her small rented room and headed to work using public transportation.

Her place was quite far from the store. She actually wished to live closer, but the rent in that area was unreasonably expensive. In the end, living farther away was the only realistic option, as long as it was still reachable with a single ride.

She sat quietly, lost in thought. “Why does this burden feel so heavy? Can I handle it? I have to… for Father, Mother, and my little sibling.”
