Sasha’s POV.

Weekends could be good or bad—good when you have people to spend them with and a harsh reminder of how your life is withering when you’re left with spending them alone. Well, unlike the numerous ones before, this particular Friday was going well for me.

My friend, Julia, was dedicated to making me spend most of the night out, not that I was complaining. We had barely entered the second bar for the night—I couldn’t even remember the name—when Julia pulled me to the crowded dance floor.

I followed her steps like I often did whenever we danced together. How could I not? Julia was a badass dancer. The song melted into a slower one and I found myself just swaying to the music, not minding anyone else, not even Julia.

The past weeks have been hectic at work. Scrambling from one deadline to the other had taken its toll on my body. I could practically feel my muscles relax as I danced.

Sometimes I laughed at myself for stubbornly insisting on pursuing accounting instead of the many other career choices that didn’t include this much stress. Maybe visual arts or hospitality.

But what made me choose accounting as a teenager was still a constant even now: I loved the feeling of satisfaction that came after turning numbers into clean, arranged, financial statements.

If I’d be honest, it was the only thing I was sure of being good at.

“Okay, I think we should sit now,” Julia uttered as the music ended.

Of course.

“The DJ here is dope!” she commented, hopping onto one of the chairs facing the high counter.

“Hm. I guess.”

“Come on, don’t act like you weren’t moving those hips just now.”

I chuckled.

It had become normal for Julia to bring my curves into any conversation, whether or not it was reasonable. Despite the fact that I was just an inch taller than her petite 5.6” height, she always insisted that our bodies were polar opposites.

While I agreed that she was on the svelte side and I was on the more curvaceous side, we could pass for sisters. We had the same oval face even though she sported a black bob, and I had longer blonde hair.

What I’d never told Julia since we became friends in college five years ago was that she was on the list of ladies I wished I looked like.

“Earth to Sash!”

Julia’s voice and her hand waving in front of my face pulled me out of my thoughts.

“Sorry, I was distracted for a bit there.”

“You don’t say. I was asking if you wanted your drink on the rocks or…”

“Neat,” I interrupted.

She relayed my answer to the bartender who immediately got busy making our drinks.

“There are a lot of hot guys here,” she mentioned, looking around. “Don’t turn yet. The guy behind you.”

“I’m not turning at all, thank you.”

The bartender brought our drinks and I took a much-needed sip.

She dramatically slouched her shoulder.

“Didn’t we come out to have fun?” I queried.

“Yeah, but…”

“No buts, Julia.”

“Don’t give me that, Sash,” she

countered before leaning closer. “Real talk. Isn’t it high time you started dating again?”

“No. Not yet.”

“What do you mean by ‘not yet?’ Come on, girl! How do we show that bastard he made the mistake of his life when you don’t flood your I***a with the cutest pictures ever?!”

After my 3-year relationship with Ryan abruptly ended with his engagement to another lady two years ago, I was a wreck. Although I could say I was now over him, the idea of dating was the least appealing thing to me.

“And a man has to be in these pictures?”

“Hell yeah!” she confirmed, her serious expression making me laugh.

I was about to make an argument when she brought her phone out of her small purse that also held my phone and key.

“Xander is asking where we’re at. I’m sure he’s planning to come,” she announced.

“Oh.”

Julia and her boyfriend lived together in Tribeca. So, if he wanted to join us, he could be with us in a few minutes since we hadn’t wandered that far away from my Upper West Side apartment.

“I’m definitely not telling him. Girls’ night out for a reason.”

“Poor guy.”

“I might have said the same if you had a guy, to start with.”

“Touche,” I muttered as my lips met with the rim of my tumbler.

Julia’s response was a roll of her brown eyes.

“What’s holding you back, though?”

“Julia, don’t tell me you’re still on this,” I complained.

“I am,” she confirmed. “I know work keeps you busy most of the time but I also know you can make out time to go out if you want to. You’re a senior auditor, for crying out loud. So, what’s the hold up?”

She was right. Although my schedule wasn’t as flexible as Julia’s since she did her painting magic in her home studio, I could go out on dates if I wanted to.

If.

“It’s not time yet,” I told her.

People started making their way to the makeshift dance floor as an energetic song started playing.

“I don’t think I believe that. What…”

“Okay, you know what? If I find someone that catches my eye, I might be posting those couple photos soon,” I rushed in a bid to get her off my back.

Her eyes shone with a satisfied smile.

“Exactly what I want to hear. Let’s go dance while we go through your options.”

I shook my head in the negative.

“I’m done dancing.”

“Feeling tipsy already?” she inquired.

“You know me.”

“And I also know your lowered inhibition will come in handy tonight…” She suddenly stopped talking as she opened her purse. “Oh…it’s not mine.”

“My dad,” I informed, leaving her side to find the restroom.

“Hi, dad,” I spoke, staring at my reflection on the mirror.

“Sasha, we’re going to Florence. Jason will pick you up at noon tomorrow.”

And then he ended the call.

A good weekend, indeed.

I sighed, walking out of the bathroom with one intention: going from tipsy to drunk.

Sasha’s POV.I woke up very early on Sunday morning with a sense of expectation.Although I was glad to have found a new toothbrush in the bathroom, I couldn’t say I felt refreshed since I was still in the same clothes.Sitting on the bed with my back against the headboard, I didn’t feel as hopeless as I did the night before. The reason was the plan I had carefully made.I knew it wasn’t a particularly water-tight plan but its power was in its simplicity. Mafia men like the devil my dad sold me to- ugh, that word- must be used to people attempting to run away from them. That meant they would be able to anticipate regular moves. My planned move was the total opposite of regular. The knocks on my door caught my attention.“We leave in ten minutes,” Galileo informed, barely stepping into the room. What’s the point in knocking when you still open the door at will?“Okay,” I answered, folding my arms. The door was shut and then locked again.I chuckled, going over my plan in my head aga

Sasha's POV.The thin material of my grey knee-length dress did little to shield me from the cold air that hit me as I stepped out of the car. However, that was the least of my worries.“Never been in front of a hotel before?” I heard the self-acclaimed vicious devil ask.I saw what he meant when I looked over my shoulder. He was close to the reception door while I stood frozen at the foot of the stairs where the car stopped.Sighing, I turned around. Even the dark night sky couldn’t conceal the taunting smirk on his face.He could pass for a company executive in his all-black suit ensemble. His piercing grey eyes -that had done nothing but mock and glare at me since we met- contrasted with the stoic look on his face. The way part of his dark brown hair fell onto his chiseled face made him look like the type of guy that made good guys insecure. Not that I was admiring him- it was just how he looked. He was a mafia boss and a devil- nothing more than that.I had barely taken two step

Lorenzo's POV.She wouldn't stop sniffling. And it was getting on my fucking nerves.I guessed that all the bravado from earlier had faded, leaving her in her original form- soft and weak.I had walked into the bar to find her standing and yelling angrily at her dad. I couldn't care less about leaving them to sort things out. But I stood back, not wanting to deny myself the satisfaction of seeing someone, anyone at all, shout at Williams Morales.I resumed my walk to claim my commodity when Williams started shouting back. She was shocked when I told her she was going with me immediately, but she seemed to recover from that after some seconds. She took her purse and gave the other guy beside her dad a curt goodbye. Then she moved away from the couch, looking up to meet my gaze in a way that said, ‘What are you waiting for?’I chuckled, turning around to lead the way out of the bar. Galileo already had the car waiting in front of the casino. Even he was surprised that we showed up so

Sasha’s POV.I looked from my dad to the taller man he kept glancing at.I had never seen this look on my dad’s face…like fear. The other man, on the contrary, looked normal, pleased even.“Dad, is something wrong?”“Uh…Sasha…” he started before the other man moved him aside with the back of his hand.“I hate keeping people in the dark, so I’ll explain to you,” he told me.His form eclipsed my dad’s as he stepped forward.“Your dad was foolish enough to gamble all his money away. He desperately auctioned you to bounce back. Standing before you is Lorenzo De Luca, the Black Rose of the Sicilian Mafia. Your new owner,” he explained, his face devoid of emotion.Auction? Mafia? Owner?“Owner? What is that supposed to mean?”“I bought you. Now I own you,” he proclaimed. There was definitely a problem, but it couldn’t be this horrible nonsense I just heard.Of course, he’s just messing with me.I bent my head to the side, seeking my dad’s clarification. “Dad?”The man turned to face my Dad

  • The Devil's Vow   Three

Lorenzo’s POV.I inserted my keycard and opened my hotel door in a rush. Flora’s hands moved to the buttons on my black dress shirt immediately. My lips clashed with hers in a violent kiss as I moved her along with me towards the bed.She had welcomed me at the hallway entrance by opening her white bathrobe to flash her naked body at me. And I was feeling more than welcome, especially a particular part of my body. That was why I often invited her over. To help me relax.Taking off her robe in a swift motion, I pushed her to the center of the bed.“Hmm, is this the day you go down on me?” she slurred as I knelt between her legs.“You wish,” I remarked, releasing my hard length from the confines of my boxers. She chuckled.End of discussion. If there was anything I liked about Flora, it was that she didn’t bug me with unnecessary talk. She tried her luck and it didn’t work- no further drama. Her fingers slid down her stomach and started to rub over her clit in circles.I had barely rel

  • The Devil's Vow   Two

Sasha’s POV.“Dad, when does this end?” I questioned.“What are you talking about?”Since my dad’s idea of father-daughter bonding was hauling me from Manhattan to Florence just to accompany him to a club to gamble his worth away, we were on our way to the venue on Saturday night.“You’re getting addicted to gambling, dad.” I knew for a fact that he was addicted to gambling, but I decided to tone things down. “It’s never worth it. Why not just call it quits and enjoy your bliss in New York?”“Sash, I’ve told you countless times, I do this simply because I enjoy it. I’m not doing it with a gun to my head, am I?” he answered, glancing away from the cuff links he’d been fixing for several minutes.“How can you enjoy losing a chunk of your properties every time. I mean, an outsider might think we regularly come to Italy to donate to a charity organization. You always go back with less every time we come.”“That’s what you’re here for. To be my good luck charm,” he said, shrugging.I used
