Chapter 5

Author: Severed Thoughts
Lux watched Lorenzo's expression darken little by little until his face turned completely cold.

Even Bianca, who had been sitting in the VIP section desperately trying to maintain her composure, froze the moment those words left Lux's mouth.

Without giving anyone the chance to question her, Lux walked straight through the chaos of the ballroom and headed for the dressing room on the second floor.

The door shut behind her.

Only then did she realize her palms were slick with sweat.

The woman in the mirror looked pale, but her eyes burned with a frightening brightness. She stared at herself for a few seconds and had just reached for her lipstick when she heard the sharp click of the lock behind her.

Bianca had followed her in.

There were still tears on her face, but the fragile expression from earlier was gone.

"You think making a scene out there will pressure Lorenzo into going back to you?" Bianca walked toward her slowly. "Lux, you're still just as naive as before. Right now, the Antara family only cares about the baby I'm carrying. As long as this child is born safely, he'll become the Antara heir. Everything you're doing is like throwing an egg at a stone wall."

Lux turned around and looked at her calmly.

"Are you really sure that baby belongs to the Antara family?"

Bianca's expression shifted instantly.

Lux pulled out her phone and swiped through several photos: Bianca wrapped around another man in the alley behind a nightclub, kissing him shamelessly in the dark.

"Sleeping with my husband wasn't enough," Lux said softly. Her gaze drifted to Bianca's stomach, her tone so light it almost sounded cruel. "You've been fooling around with other men too."

"Bianca, do you even know who the father of that child is?"

Bianca lunged for the phone, her eyes immediately turning red.

"Are you insane? If you show Lorenzo those, he'll only hate you more!"

Lux pulled the phone back and gave a cold laugh.

"Still better than you. At least I'm not clinging to a rotten man like he's some priceless treasure."

Something twisted violently across Bianca's face, like Lux had ripped open the one truth she could never bear to confront.

She suddenly grabbed Lux by the hair, her voice shaking with venom.

"What gives you the right to act so superior?

"Do you know what happened while you were kidnapped? That adoptive mother of yours knelt outside the Antara estate like a dog, begging Lorenzo to save you. She smashed her head against the ground until she was covered in blood, then died right there on the front steps.

"Lorenzo never even opened the door.

"He was already sick of you. You were just too stupid to see it."

Lux went completely still.

If it had only been insults, she would not have cared.

However, her adoptive mother was different.

She was the only person in this world who had ever truly loved her.

The warmth vanished from Lux's eyes.

In the next second, she grabbed Bianca by the throat and slapped her across the face with all her strength.

The crack echoed through the room.

A bright red handprint bloomed instantly across Bianca's cheek.

"You dare hit me?" Bianca screamed in disbelief.

Lux shoved her backward hard enough to pin her against the floor-to-ceiling window. Her voice was low, but every word carried a brutal edge.

"Not only would I hit you, I could ruin your reputation and throw you out of the Vitale family for good."

Bianca's upper body pressed helplessly against the glass as the color drained from her face.

"That kidnapping was meant for you," Lux said, staring directly at her. "Because of you, I was taken. Because of you, my mother died."

"Bianca, how do you want to settle that debt?"

"I'm carrying Lorenzo's child!" Bianca shrieked in panic. "If you touch me, the Antara family will never let you go!"

"What exactly do you think I'm afraid of?"

Before Lux could finish speaking, the dressing room door was kicked open.

Lorenzo stormed in with several bodyguards behind him.

The black suit only made him look colder, harder.

His eyes first landed on Bianca pinned against the window, then on the slap mark across her face. The shock in his expression quickly darkened into fury.

Like someone finally seeing her savior arrive, Bianca shoved herself free from Lux and stumbled toward Lorenzo. As she passed Lux, she deliberately slammed into her shoulder before collapsing dramatically onto the floor.

The next second, blood began spreading beneath her legs.

"Lorenzo…"

Bianca clutched her stomach, her face ghostly pale.

"She tried to push me out the window… She said she'd never let me give birth to this baby…

"Please… save our child…"

The temperature in Lorenzo's eyes dropped to ice.

He stared at Lux, his voice colder than steel.

"You've gone too far today. If I don't teach you a lesson, you'll only become more unhinged."

Lux looked at him and suddenly laughed.

"Lorenzo, do I look like someone who was raised to be afraid?"

Lorenzo said nothing else. He simply turned to the bodyguards behind him.

"Take her to the top floor. Hang her from the exterior maintenance platform.

"Without my permission, nobody lets her down."

Bianca leaned weakly against his chest, tears still hanging from her lashes, but the corner of her mouth lifted ever so slightly.

Lux saw it.

She stopped struggling.

As the bodyguards dragged her from the room, she looked back at Lorenzo one last time.

By then, every last bit of disappointment in her had already burned to ash.

Before winter arrived, the case was finally settled.Bianca was formally sentenced for staging a fake kidnapping, participating in financial fraud, and conspiring with outside forces to extort the family. Francesca was imprisoned alongside her for attempted assault and conspiracy.Under pressure from both the shareholders and the public, Vito was forced to withdraw completely from the Vitale Group. This time, there was no path left for him to claw his way back. And the Antara family did not escape unscathed either.Lorenzo stepped down from most of the family's public-facing business operations and shifted half his attention toward cleaning up the rot inside the organization. Some people said he had finally grown a conscience. Others believed he was simply afraid his past would one day come back to destroy him.Lux did not care either way. What mattered to her was that Eileen Shipping was finally stable, and the second fleet had successfully entered operation. That evening, she

After Francesca was formally charged, Bianca completely fell apart. It was the final shred of hope she had left, and now even that was gone. She screamed and cried in her old detention cell for days. At first, she insisted she had once been pregnant with Lorenzo's child and that the Antara family could not possibly abandon her. Later, she changed her story, claiming her mother had forced her to do everything. Eventually, she started threatening to expose everything she knew if they let her out.Lorenzo never went to see her personally. The one who stepped into the visitation room was Lux.The moment Bianca saw her, her eyes turned red with hatred."You came to laugh at me?""No." Lux sat down across from her, calm and composed. "I came to hear how much truth you're finally willing to tell."Bianca stared at her viciously, as if she wanted to tear a piece of flesh straight from her body. However, the Bianca sitting there now looked nothing like the polished socialite she used

Lorenzo's warning proved accurate.Three days later, Eileen Shipping's temporary office in Sicily received an anonymous invitation. Supposedly, an overseas insurance syndicate wanted to discuss a long-term partnership and requested that Lux meet them privately that evening in one of the old opera house boxes.Laura frowned the moment she finished reading it."This setup is fake as hell.""I know." Lux folded the letter neatly, her tone calm and unreadable. "But since they've already drawn the knife, I should at least see how they plan to use it."That night, the old opera house glowed beneath dim golden lights.Lux arrived on time, though she had no intention of walking in alone.Marco stationed two men in the shadows nearby, while Laura settled into the opposite box ahead of time with a camera running. It was not forgiveness for Lorenzo, merely acceptance of the most effective security arrangement available. As expected, the moment the private box door closed, the person waiti

After Bianca was thrown into the old detention block, she was still arrogant at first. She believed that as long as she kept her mouth shut, Vito and her mother would eventually find a way to get her out.But once the Vitale Group's board meeting was convened, Vito was formally stripped of his authority, and even her mother's jewelry brand was seized for investigation, she finally realized the truth. This time, no one was coming to save her.And at long last, Lux took the seat that should have belonged to her from the very beginning.Yet during the shareholders' meeting, she neither took control of the Vitale Group nor moved back into the family estate. She only did two things.First, she demanded that the Vitale family erect a proper headstone for her adoptive mother, with her name and identity formally recorded in the family archives.Second, she took the shares and compensation that rightfully belonged to her, then permanently withdrew from the Vitale family's business opera

For the next week, Sicily dominated the headlines almost every single day.An internal audit within the Vitale organization uncovered a chain of scandals: embezzled funds, falsified port contracts, and millions quietly funneled away to cover Bianca's debts. The Antara family managed to avoid being dragged directly into the mess, but the media quickly dug up Lorenzo's blatant favoritism after Lux returned, along with every punishment he had ever forced on her.The image of the 'devoted Don' shattered overnight.Antara Group stock plunged for three consecutive days, while several partner banks simultaneously demanded additional collateral.Marco stood inside the study, watching the man behind the desk age years within the span of a single night."Should we step in and suppress the news?" he asked quietly.Lorenzo stared out the window for a long moment before answering."No.""But if this continues–""This is what I deserve."Marco fell silent. He had followed Lorenzo for ma

The Vitale family council chamber was packed.Branch family elders, accountants, lawyers, and even the two senior board members who had been eyeing the inheritance for years were all seated around the long table, waiting to watch the spectacle unfold. They had expected Lux to return broken. At best, they thought she would cry about her suffering. At worst, she would cling to her status as the family's true daughter and beg for scraps of sympathy.Instead, the moment she walked in, she tossed a thick stack of documents onto the center of the table."These are the port credit lines I brought into the Antara family before marriage, the logistics clients under my name, and the three East Coast shipping routes I renegotiated for the Vitale family after the wedding."She pulled out a chair and sat down calmly. Her voice was quiet, but every word carried clearly through the room."As of today, all of these assets will be transferred to Eileen Shipping. They will no longer serve the Vita
