AGNARR. I step out of the food shed, ignoring the blushing women who wait outside, having clearly stopped from entering. I smirk, knowing Xendaya must have been mortified having to walk through this. “We are at war, yet I am glad you are able to find time for fun.” Hazran’s smug voice comes from behind me. “And it seemed to have gotten a little violent…” “It did not,” I reply, ignoring his first remark as I look down. The cuts are healing up fast enough, but they are extremely clear. “And yes, we had fun.” “I can tell from your smirk, and from the screams I heard, but I do have some… possibly bad news for you.” His smirk fades. “Oh?” I ask, becoming serious as I look at him sharply. He sighs and nods. “The two werewolves have arrived. We picked them up a few miles away. The guards thought it was best, just in case the enemy ended up intercepting them. We were certain you would not want that.” “They did the right thing, even if I do not like them,” I reply. I am not so pleased, b
XENDAYA. Agnarr’s parting words still replay in my mind, his behaviour and his attitude angering me. I try not to look at Callista or Lycus as I lead them inside. I’m angry at him. How dare he attack Lycus like that! This is what irks me about him. He always acts like he can do anything he wants. ‘Something must have triggered him. He only lashes out if someone disrespects him.’ Shayara replies defensively. ‘Don’t side with him, we both know he does have a temper.’ I frown. ‘I didn’t say he doesn’t. I said Lycus must have done something.’ She sounds displeased. Frowning, I block her out, not wanting to hear her sing Agnarr’s praises. I’m happy to see them, but I can’t deny that it makes me feel extremely nostalgic and I miss my family more than ever. “How was everyone when you left?” I asked. “Well, we left a few hours after you did. So, I can’t really say much.” Lycus replies, smiling gently at me. “Ah… I see.” “Come, My Queen, I will find rooms for our…guests,” Hazran says
XENDAYA. My legs seem to give way and I fall to the ground, my heart thumping as I stare at the doors, watching as if in slow motion as they swing shut and I’m left here with the shattering news I am unable to understand. “My Queen!” All three of them rush over, but I am unable to focus on them, staring at the closed doors. Agnarr… he’s the one who kissed me back when I was in the hospital… Why? Why did he hide it from me? ‘He knew…’ Shayara whispers. I can feel her confusion and sadness, but I don’t have an answer as to why he didn’t want us to know. My heart clenches, wondering why he would hide such a big thing? My head is spinning and Shayara sighs. ‘I know we are attracted to him, but why can’t we feel the bond all the time?’ She’s hurt that he kept it hidden from us, but I don’t have an answer to that either. ‘Doesn’t he want us as a mate?’ ‘Only he has the answers to our questions…’ I reply quietly as I stare ahead, my vision blurring. “Are you ok My Queen, the king wi
AGNARR. I fly over the land, watching as fire, ice, earth and water clash violently. The wind that cuts into us like sharp blades is far stronger than many of the other elements, proof that there are mostly air dragons around us. Yet all this time he remains out of sight, but I can feel his presence. Feel the putrid darkness that oozes the evil that always surrounds him, linger in the air like a heavy shadow, threatening to consume us all. Nefzaan, where are you? My people are fighting well, and I hope that the last of our reinforcements will make it soon. They are the element of surprise I need to succeed in this battle. When I learned that Nefzaan himself was travelling towards us, I sent out word, although I know there will be a price to pay for their help. The fact that they accepted is enough for me to give them whatever they wish for in return. Land, money, power. When I am king, they will be rewarded. Ever since this battle has begun, and as I obliterate my enemies, I can
XENDAYA. More than three hours have passed and I’m still down here, I’m currently holding a little hatchling as they call their pups. She’s barely nine months old, and she’s taken a liking to me as she now plays with my hair. I’m clapping along as a few of the children are now singing and playing. My own throat feels sore from all the singing as they kept asking for more and with their little faces showing some excitement despite the dire situation, why would I refuse? “My Queen, you must be tired, you should get up from the hard floor.” One of the women says gently. I shake my head. “I’m fine,” I reply quietly so as not to disturb those children performing. I smile up at her, reassuring her. Everyone is sitting on the floor and who knows how long they’ll be down here… What kind of life is this? Nefzaan was clearly a terror that everyone feared… such a person in a position of power… One other thing I noticed by spending time down here was the pride these people had in their king.
AGNARR. He’s planned this, having me closed in with no backup, yet he has two of his strongest allies backing him. One who was a traitor pretending to be on my side for all these years - Aslantha’s father. The supreme chief, or Earl, as he prefers, who is in charge of several of the tribes. They now close in on me, but I will not go down so easily. He suddenly stops, his attention snapping towards the castle. And my first concern is if someone is there. I turn quickly, ready to come to their aid, but who I see almost makes my heart stop. A chill fills me. There stands none other than Xendaya stuck in a stare-down with Nefzaan, unwavering against his immense aura as she glares directly in the eye, her own burning green. She raises her arm and shoots the sword through the air. I see it spin, becoming a blur as it flies towards Nefzaan. He doesn’t move, confident it won’t reach, and it won’t. He can bend the air however he wants, a mere she-wolf's throw won’t touch him. I try to
XENDAYA. It shook me. The moment he swiftly said they would marry tonight… But I shouldn’t care. I was prepared for everything when I decided to do my duty as queen. I’m a queen, not his queen. That’s all that matters and right now, my people need me. He can marry a thousand times, fuck all the women he wants, but at that moment as I walk away from that broken tower room, I can’t help but smile softly. How can you hurt over something or someone that you don’t even care for? ‘We do care. We just found out we’re mates.’ Shayara murmurs softly. She’s more shaken than me, although I don’t understand what she expected. ‘We just found out, not him. He knew Shay. It doesn’t matter.’ I say quietly. As much as I want to question him over it, now is not the time. There are so many people who need tending to. I’m sure the wounded would be brought in and that would mean we needed to make sure that the hospital wing could cope. What I saw as Nefzaan got away were many bodies lying on the gro
AGNARR. We suffered far more than I had originally predicted. Even knowing Nefzaan was coming, I did not think we would lose so many. He has far more chiefs on his side than I do. Older, stronger, and those who fought the ancient wars and had experience of years beneath their wings. We’ve lost many, and the death toll rises with every passing hour as we scour the battlefield searching for our people. “How many?” Haizhar asks quietly as he wipes blood and ash from his face as he tosses another body of the enemy into the fire. “We are counting one hundred and thirty losses so far,” I say, my face not giving anything away. “That is steep indeed, and injured?” Haizhar murmurs as he lifts the body of one of our brothers and places it on one of the carts that we are loading with the dead. “Countless, more than double of those lost,” I say, closing the eyes of one of my men as I place him on the cart. He was one of my strongest men… and died, but he took four with him… I press my lip
