Chapter 2

Author: Chronicle of the Moon
At some point, Dorian had walked over. When he reached out to pat my head like he always used to, I instinctively flinched back in terror, avoiding his touch.

His hand froze mid-air, and he gave me a strange look before chuckling softly and lowering it.

I did not care how he felt about me pulling away from him. This time, I would not interfere in their relationship anymore.

...

It was the festival. My mom came to my room and looked completely shocked to find me still there.

"Seraphina, why didn't you go out and have fun today?"

She was right to be surprised. In my past life, I would have been running around after Dorian without a care in the world.

"Mom, what are you doing here?" I stood up and walked over, linking my arm through hers and resting my head on her shoulder.

My mom knew I liked Dorian, but she had advised me, saying, "His Highness may be an exceptional young man, but Seraphina, he doesn't have any feelings for you."

I replied, "Mom, I know. I won't have feelings for His Highness anymore."

My mom finally patted my head and said, "Seraphina, you've finally grown up."

On that same day in my past life, I had ignored my mom's attempts to stop me and gone out with Celeste and Dorian anyway. I had almost driven her mad with anger.

Back then, my mom had told me earnestly, "Seraphina, I don't need you to be rich or powerful. I just want you to find an honest man who'll treat you well. His Highness isn't right for you."

At the time, I had not listened to a word she had said because my mind was completely consumed by him. In the end, I regretted it with every fiber of my being.

The day the bandits assaulted me, I did not die. Instead, they dragged me back to their camp and kept me locked in a cage like an animal, stripped naked, letting them have their way with me day and night.

My hair was a tangled mess, my skin filthy and rough, and my throat could not make a sound anymore. My body was covered in disgusting fluids that would dry and then be replaced with fresh ones, reeking of something foul.

Sometimes I was conscious; sometimes I was passed out.

In my delirium, I heard them saying, "She had a miscarriage. Wonder whose kid it was?"

The listeners burst into laughter.

"Probably everyone's, since we all had a turn."

"I wonder what she did to offend the Emperor. Can't expect a good ending when you cross him."

...

After they finished their outing, Dorian walked Celeste back to the Vale Manor. He especially brought me a honey cake, believing it was my favorite, to thank me for covering for them.

The truth was, I hated honey cakes. It was sickeningly sweet, and it was actually Celeste's favorite.

I took the honey cake from his hand and thanked him politely. I did not cling to him or pepper him with questions like I used to.

"Seraphina, are you feeling unwell?" Dorian asked with concern.

"I'm fine. You two should head back now. It's getting late."

I could sense my own distance and coldness toward them, my whole attitude screaming for them to stay away. Yet, whenever I saw them, my body automatically went into defense mode, my fists clenching silently, my lips pressed tight.

Lily said, "Miss, are you afraid of His Highness?"

In this life, I was going to let them have each other and stop being an obstacle, just to prevent the tragedy from my past life from happening again. But every time I remembered it, I could not help the cold dread that seized my body, the trembling, the fear, the helplessness, the grief, the despair.

As I watched them walk away, Dorian suddenly stopped and brushed a flower petal from Celeste's hair, then they clasped hands with their fingers intertwined, looking every bit like lovers deeply in love.

At that moment, for some reason, tears instantly fell from my eyes and disappeared into the snow.Dorian noticed it and glanced at me with an expression devoid of sorrow or joy. He said, "Seraphina, you don't need to pity me. I brought all of this upon myself."He talked about his experiences unprompted, like a person who had been lonely for so long and had finally found someone to confide in, opening up completely. He mentioned that he and Celeste had fought every day over money and daily necessities like any ordinary couple. Fortunately, they had an adorable child, which gave him some comfort.Sadly, the good times did not last.Celeste had gotten sick of their impoverished life, aborted their second child, and joined a wealthy merchant as his mistress.Dorian concluded, saying, "So that's all love amounts to in the end."I asked, "What happened to your leg?"He went on to say that after Celeste became someone else's mistress, she was quickly abandoned and sold to a brothel. I stared at Dorian, lost in thought, unable to describe what I was feeling.Suddenly, a sharp pain came from my hand as someone pinched it. I snapped back to reality and glared at the culprit."Is he better looking than me?" Nathaniel asked, his tone full of jealousy.I could not help but laugh, realizing how petty he could be.Nathaniel looked embarrassed and pretended to straighten his clothes, sitting up perfectly straight while gripping my hand even tighter. His gaze toward me was burning and tender....Apparently, after Dorian stepped down from his position as the Crown Prince, he had left without taking any money, and his days had been extremely difficult. He had had to swallow his pride and ask his former friends for loans, but no one was willing to lend him anything.Of course, who would dare to help him and go against the future emperor? Some aristocrats who already resented him paid others to rough him up, humiliate him, and kick him while he was down.Dorian had en

Dorian said he had wanted to talk to me ever since the day he left the palace, but as I listened to him now, he felt like a stranger. He had changed. He seemed more grounded, worrying about everyday expenses and making ends meet.He said, "Seraphina, ever since you woke up from that coma, you've been completely different. You don't cling to me like before, and you're no longer warm and outgoing. Can you tell me why?"I turned my head and looked at him, my emotions complicated. "Do you know what it's like to want to die, but you're not allowed to?""You..." Dorian could not believe it. He realized he was not the only one with memories from a past life. "Seraphina... I'm sorry."He must have remembered how, in his past life, he had watched me locked in a cage while those criminals did whatever they wanted to me. Yet, he had been like a cold-blooded monster, completely indifferent to my pleas for help, even kicking me while I was down.In the end, he had watched me take my last brea

The scabbed wounds on Celeste's face tore open again from the movement, and blood started flowing once more."It wasn't me," I said while looking at Dorian. He seemed like he did not care anymore who had betrayed them, as if he had given up and accepted his fate. "I've brought some ointment. Use it on Celeste.""Thank you."As I watched Dorian carefully apply the ointment to Celeste's wounds, I stood there deep in thought for a long time. Finally, I asked, "Your Highness, are you really going to give up your title?"For a moment, the room went silent. Finally, Dorian forced a faint smile, looking at Celeste with deep affection that he could not hide.He said, "In this lifetime, I only want to live for Celeste."I froze in shock, wondering if he had been reborn, too.Just then, I caught a fleeting glimpse of imperial purple robes beyond the doorway. However, the figure had already vanished....No matter what, Dorian was still Emperor Roland's most beloved son. So, Emperor

  • The Emperor's Only Love   Chapter 4

Not long after, Dorian took advantage of Empress Victoria letting her guard down and slipped out of the palace.I stood in the courtyard, listening to their conversation on the other side of the wall."Celeste, let's leave. I'll give up being Crown Prince, and we can just be an ordinary married couple. Will you come with me?""Dorian, are you really willing to give up your title for me? But what about Seraphina?""I'd do anything for you. I'm afraid I'll have to let Seraphina down in this lifetime."After a tender moment between them, they finally showed signs of preparing to run away.As they were about to leave, I stepped forward and stopped them. "Here's some money and an escape route I've prepared for you. It'll help you avoid the soldiers who'll be searching for you."From the moment I was reborn, I had been planning this step, making preparations in advance for their escape. I hoped they could leave successfully, fly far away, and never be caught by Empress Victoria. This
