Empire's Shadow

last update 公開日: 2026-07-02 20:27:06

I was walking straight into the lion’s den and I didn’t care.

“I told you this was a bad idea,” Liam said tightly as the car pulled up to the Grey family estate. His hand hovered near mine on the seat but never quite touched.

I yanked the door open before the driver could. “I don’t need your permission. This is my home. My company. They need to see I’m still in control.”

Liam got out after me, jaw clenched. “You’re still recovering from the heat. You’re pregnant, Aiden. This isn’t the time to prove anything.”

“Stop saying that word,” I hissed, not looking at him. “I’m not... I’m handling it. Now stay behind me and keep quiet. I can do this alone.”

The heavy oak doors opened before I even reached them. My uncle Henry stood there, flanked by two cousins. Their smiles were all teeth.

“Aiden,” Henry drawled, eyes flicking over me with barely hidden satisfaction. “So good of you to come home. We’ve been waiting.”

I stepped inside, shoulders squared. “Let’s skip the pleasantries. I know what this is about. The differentiation. It changes nothing. I’m still the heir. Still running this empire.”

Henry laughed softly, closing the doors behind us with a heavy click. “Changes nothing? Look at you. An Omega. Weak. Scent all twisted up. The board will eat you alive.”

One of my cousins, Marcus, crossed his arms. “We’ve already had calls. Shareholders are nervous. An Omega leading Grey Enterprises? It’s a joke.”

My blood boiled. “A joke? I built half the divisions you’re profiting from. I closed the Nakamura deal when you all said it was impossible. Don’t you dare stand there and question me.”

Henry stepped closer, that smug look deepening. “You were never meant to be this weak, Aiden. Step aside gracefully. Let real Alphas handle the family business. We’ll even be generous. A nice settlement. Maybe a quiet place to... raise whatever you’re carrying.”

I felt the color drain from my face. “How do you know about that?”

Henry’s smile widened. “We have friends in the medical wing. Word travels fast when the heir falls so spectacularly.”

Liam moved then, positioning himself at my side. “He’s not stepping aside. And you won’t touch him.”

Henry’s gaze shifted to Liam, assessing. “Cole. Interesting choice of company. Come to claim your prize?”

“He’s not a prize,” Liam said, voice low and dangerous. “He’s the man who still owns this empire. Back off.”

I shot Liam a sharp look. “I told you to stay quiet. I can fight my own battles.”

“Can you?” Marcus sneered. “You look like you’re about to fall over. Pregnancy already taking its toll?”

“Shut your mouth,” I growled, but my vision blurred for a second. A wave of nausea hit me hard. I steadied myself against the hallway table.

Lucas appeared from the side hallway, face pale and conflicted. He’d been with me through dozens of crises, but never one like this. “Aiden, maybe we should take this slower. Henry’s already moving assets. Quiet transfers. He’s preparing the board for a vote.”

“Lucas,” I said, betrayal stinging fresh. “You knew?”

He looked down. “I tried to slow him down. But you’ve been gone. The heat, the hospital. People talk. Henry’s telling everyone you’re unfit.”

Henry chuckled. “Because you are unfit. An Omega carrying some Alpha’s bastard. What kind of leader does that make you? The board will laugh you out of the room.”

I stepped forward, fists clenched. “This bastard is mine. And I will burn this entire company down before I let you take it from me. You’ve always hated that Father chose me. Always wanted the power for yourself.”

“Power belongs to those strong enough to hold it,” Henry replied coldly. “Not to broken Omegas who spread their legs for the first compatible Alpha that comes along.”

Liam’s hand shot out, gripping my arm as I lunged forward. “Don’t. He’s baiting you.”

“Get your hands off me,” I snapped at Liam, but I didn’t pull away. His touch grounded me even as it pissed me off. “I don’t need you defending me like I’m helpless.”

“You’re not helpless,” Liam said quietly, eyes never leaving Henry. “But you’re not alone either. Not anymore.”

Lucas shifted uncomfortably. “Aiden, please. Henry’s already got three board members in his pocket. If you push now, they’ll vote you out immediately. Think about the baby. Think about what’s smart.”

“Don’t you bring the baby into this,” I snarled, voice cracking. “None of you get to use that against me. I didn’t ask for any of this. I didn’t ask to wake up changed. To feel... to feel everything so much.”

Henry’s eyes gleamed. “Exactly. You’re emotional. Unstable. Typical Omega traits. The world will see it. The business world will destroy you.”

I laughed, cold and sharp. “You’d love that, wouldn’t you? Watching me break. Watching everything Father built go to you. Over my dead body.”

“It might come to that,” Henry said softly. “Accidents happen. Especially to fragile little Omegas under stress.”

Liam moved fully in front of me then. “Threaten him again and we’ll see how fragile I am.”

The room tensed. My cousins shifted, hands twitching. Lucas stepped between us, hands raised. “Everyone calm down. This isn’t helping. Aiden, you need to rest. You look pale.”

“I’m fine,” I insisted, even as another wave of dizziness hit me. My hand instinctively went to my stomach. I hated myself for it. “I’m still the one in charge here. You all work for me. Remember that.”

Henry shook his head slowly. “Not for long. The papers are already moving. By next week, we’ll have an emergency vote. You can either step down willingly or we’ll force you out. Either way, the Omega era ends today.”

“You bastard,” I whispered. “After everything I did for this family. After every sacrifice.”

“Sacrifices?” Henry sneered. “You enjoyed the power. The respect. Now you’ll learn what it feels like to be at the bottom. Where Omegas belong.”

Liam’s voice cut through like steel. “He belongs wherever he chooses. And right now, he’s choosing to fight. With or without your approval.”

I looked at Liam, that unwanted warmth spreading through my chest again. I shoved it down hard. “I told you to stay out of this. This is Grey family business.”

“It became my business when you called me,” Liam replied, meeting my eyes. There was something raw there. Something that made my stomach flip for reasons that had nothing to do with pregnancy. “I’m not walking away.”

Lucas sighed heavily. “Aiden, he’s right. You need support right now. Henry’s moves are aggressive. He’s already frozen some accounts.”

“Frozen my accounts?” I turned on Henry again. “You don’t have that authority.”

“I do when the board suspects instability,” Henry said smoothly. “And an Omega heir pregnant with an unknown Alpha’s child? That’s the definition of instability.”

“It’s not unknown,” Liam said quietly. “It’s mine.”

The silence that followed was deafening. I stared at him, shock freezing me in place. “Liam... what are you doing?”

“Claiming what’s mine,” he answered, voice steady. “The baby. You. This fight. All of it.”

Henry’s face twisted with disgust. “How touching. The fallen heir and his guard dog Alpha. Pathetic.”

I wanted to scream. At Henry. At Liam. At the way my body was starting to fail me right when I needed strength most. The room spun faster. My knees buckled.

“Aiden!” Lucas called out.

Liam moved like lightning, scooping me up before I hit the floor. His arms were solid, warm, safe. I hated how good it felt even as humiliation burned through me.

“Get him out of here,” Henry said coldly, watching with dangerous calculation in his eyes. “Before he embarrasses us further.”

Liam carried me toward the doors without another word. I pressed my face against his chest, too exhausted to fight.

“Put me down,” I whispered weakly. “I can walk.”

“Not right now you can’t,” he murmured against my hair. “I’ve got you.”

As the estate doors closed behind us, Henry’s final words echoed in my mind. The fight was just beginning. And for the first time, I wasn’t sure I could win it alone.

  • The Fallen Alpha’s Pregnancy    Breaking the Chain

The silence in this room is no longer empty, it is a lie. I stare at the three tiny black devices sitting on my nightstand, their little red lights blinking like the eyes of a demon, and I feel something snap inside me. Not the fragile, weeping snap of a broken Omega, but the sharp, dangerous click of a blade being drawn from a sheath. I was an apex predator for years. I built an empire on the corpses of men who thought they were smarter than me. I might be bleeding, I might be carrying this burden in my belly, but I am not dead yet.I hear the heavy tread of boots in the hallway. Liam. He is coming, probably to check on his investment, to see if his little pet is still behaving. I quickly sweep the bugs into a drawer, my movements smooth and deliberate. I smooth out my shirt, force the tension out of my jaw, and sit on the edge of the bed. I slump my shoulders just enough to look defeated, just enough to look like the wounded bird he wants me to be.The door opens. Liam stands there,

  • The Fallen Alpha’s Pregnancy    The Scent of Lies

They are going to kill me if they find out. The air in this medical wing is thick with the sterile, biting scent of antiseptic and cold steel. It feels like a funeral shroud. I am sitting on this godforsaken table, my heart hammering against my ribs like a trapped bird, and I am terrified that if I breathe too hard, the truth will leak out of my pores. Every heartbeat feels like a countdown to my own destruction.Dr. Vane is adjusting his stethoscope, his eyes narrow, cold, and entirely too suspicious.Just relax, Aiden, he says, his voice flat and devoid of any human empathy. I need to run a full blood panel. The board needs assurance that your recovery is progressing as promised.I swallow hard, my throat feeling like it is lined with jagged sandpaper. I am fine, Vane. You have my charts. You have the reports from the last specialist. Is this really necessary?Liam is standing by the door, a silhouette of calculated power. He is perfectly still, a predator in a tailored suit, his ey

  • The Fallen Alpha’s Pregnancy    Poisoned Choice

The letter felt like poison in my hands.I sat alone in Liam’s living room, staring at the formal offer from Henry’s lawyers. Terminate the pregnancy. Risky procedure that might reverse my Omega status. Step down quietly and they would let me live what was left of my old life. My fingers trembled as I read it again.Liam walked in and stopped dead when he saw the papers. “What is that?”I didn’t look up. “Henry’s offer. A way out. For both of us.”Liam crossed the room in three strides. “Let me see it.” His voice was tight with barely controlled anger.I handed it over, watching his face darken as he read. “You’re not seriously considering this.”“Why wouldn’t I?” I stood up, voice rising. “This could give me my life back. My body back. The empire. Everything I lost. You don’t understand what I sacrificed.”Liam looked at me with quiet pain that cut deeper than anger. “I understand more than you know. But if you do this, you’ll lose the only thing that still feels real.”I laughed bit

  • The Fallen Alpha’s Pregnancy    Blood and Protection

The intruder came for us in the middle of the night.Glass shattered somewhere in the house. I bolted upright in bed, heart hammering. “Liam!”He was already moving, silent and deadly. “Stay here. Lock the door.”I ignored him and followed, grabbing a lamp as a pathetic weapon. My body still ached from the heat but adrenaline pushed me forward. Another sound. Footsteps. Then a grunt and the unmistakable sound of fighting.I rounded the corner just in time to see Liam take down the masked intruder with terrifying efficiency. One precise strike, then another. The man dropped hard. Liam stood over him breathing heavily, knuckles bloody.“You okay?” he asked, voice rough as he turned to me.I stared at him, really seeing him for the first time. Not the calm businessman. Not the gentle caretaker. This was something else entirely. Lethal. Trained. Dangerous.“Yeah,” I managed. “What the hell was that?”Liam checked the intruder quickly, removing the mask. “Professional. Not some random thug

The memory slammed into me without warning.I was lying on a soft bed in Liam’s private residence outside the city, trying to rest, when a flash hit me. His hands on my skin. My own voice moaning his name. Months ago. Before everything changed.I sat up fast, heart racing. “Liam!”He appeared in the doorway almost immediately, concern etched across his face. “What’s wrong? Are you hurting?”I stared at him, breathing hard. “You. Me. That night. The one where we... God, I remember pieces. You were there. We were together.”Liam stepped inside slowly, closing the door behind him. “You’re starting to remember.”I swung my legs off the bed, anger rising fast. “You took advantage of me when I didn’t even know what I was becoming. How long have you been hiding this?”Liam met my eyes steadily, but I saw the flicker of pain there. “You came to me that night willingly, Aiden. You sought me out. I thought you remembered. I’ve been trying to protect you ever since.”“Protect me?” I laughed, sha
