The Dream That Always Returns

last update Última actualización: 2025-09-30 13:35:22

POV. Bernado

I woke up with the smell of old leather from the sofa permeating my nostrils and an uncomfortable pain in my lower back. I moved slowly, feeling my back crack, as if each vertebra were a reminder that I wasn't where I should be. And maybe that was true. Maybe I never had been.

The blanket slipped down my legs, falling to the wooden floor. It didn't take me long to figure out who had put it there. Anya. Always her. Always silent. Always trying.

I closed my eyes again and wished the dream hadn't ended. In the dream, Aldora was still alive. She laughed at my jealousy as she ran through the woods, her hair flying in the wind, her white dress clinging to her thighs. She called my name in that sweet voice that only she had. “Come and get me, lazy wolf.”

For a second, my heart believed it. And then I woke up.

The metallic taste of longing was still in my mouth. My chest hurt. The air seemed heavier, as if I had woken up underwater. I brought my hand to my face and pressed my eye

  • The False Luna   The Theater of Perfection

POV: CamilaThe smell of coffee reached me before I remembered where I was. For a few seconds, the sensation was pleasant—warm, comfortable, almost familiar. The kind of smell that makes your body believe the world is safe. I opened my eyes slowly, and the soft glow of sunlight coming through the curtains made me forget I was still in the hospital. But it only took a blink for reality to set in.The room looked like something out of a dream. Flowers everywhere, trays of coffee, juice, fruit, omelets. Three omegas moved silently, carefully preparing everything, as if they were setting up a banquet. And in the middle of it all, Valentina, with her arms crossed and the most sour expression on the planet. The scene was only complete when I saw Carlos sitting in the armchair, leafing through a newspaper as if he were an exemplary man, and Tiago in the corner, playing on his tablet. For a moment, the image seemed perfect: the protective Alpha, the calm son, the resting companion. But I knew

  • The False Luna   Alfa and Anger

POV: CarlosI poured some more whiskey into my glass and drank it without thinking. I wanted it to burn, to take away my urge to break everything. The office was a mess, papers scattered everywhere, the smell of alcohol and anger. That woman still hadn't shown up. No news from Maura. Just excuses, rumors, and a silence that irritated me more than any words. The communicator vibrated on the table. It was Bernardo.“Go ahead.”“The omega has been found, Alpha. Trying to cross the northern border.”“Anya?”“Yes. She's fine. She was detained by the guards.”I closed my eyes and took a deep breath. As if I needed another headache.“And Maura?”“Nothing yet, sir.”“And what did Anya say?”“That she doesn't know anything. She ran away after an argument.”I slammed my glass down on the table.“Argument? In the middle of the Moon Festival week?”Bernardo hesitated.“It was a personal problem.”I rolled my eyes.“Personal problem. I should have chosen a Beta with more control. Keep your wife un

  • The False Luna   The Return of Luna

POV: MauraI slowed down the car when I saw the lights at the gate. The lights from the guardhouse cut through the darkness of the road and hit the windshield, forcing me to squint. My hands slipped on the steering wheel, I don't know if it was because of sweat or guilt. My stomach had been hurting for a long time, a pain that didn't come from hunger, it came from fear — the kind of fear that disguises itself as lucidity. When I stopped in front of the gate, the guard was already waiting for me. His face was more tense than usual, and just by looking at him, I could tell that something was wrong. He approached slowly, his gun hanging at his side, and bowed quickly before speaking.“Ms. Maura, Alpha is looking for you. Everyone in the pack is.”My heart leapt in my chest, but my face remained in place. You learn to do that over time—to keep your gaze steady even when everything inside wants to run away. I took a deep breath, smoothed my hair, and the first thing I thought was that I sh

  • The False Luna   Before It's Too Late

POV: ValentinaI left Camila's room trying not to make any noise, but guilt followed me like a smell that won't come off your skin. I closed the door slowly and the click sounded louder than it should have, as if the simple act of leaving her alone was a betrayal. The hallway was silent, the cold lights flickering at short intervals, and every step I took echoed in my head like a reminder of everything I hadn't done.I went down to the hospital cafeteria because I needed to breathe, or pretend I knew how to do that. The air there was a mixture of stale coffee, medicine, and loneliness—a combination that seemed designed to draw the truth out of us. I ordered an espresso that I didn't drink, just twirling the cup in my hands, watching the steam rise and disappear as if it were an obvious metaphor for my situation.Camila was alive, and yet she seemed dead. The image of her lying in that bed wouldn't leave my head: her pale face, the deep circles under her eyes, the bones of her shoulder

  • The False Luna   The Escape of Omega

POV: BernardoI woke up to the sound of the communicator beeping on the floor, the sharp noise cutting through the silence of the office like a blade. My body still heavy from sleep, my wrinkled shirt sticking to my chest, and the metallic taste of stale coffee in my mouth. I picked up the device without even looking at the display, and before I could say anything, Alpha's voice thundered through the channel.“Bernardo, I want all guards on alert. Now. Maura is missing.”The sentence came in whole, leaving no room for doubt, and my sleepiness vanished as if it had never existed. His tone was not that of a worried man—it was that of a wounded Alpha, about to turn fear into violence. It took me a few seconds to respond, more out of calculation than hesitation.“Yes, Alpha. I will personally coordinate the search.”The sharp sound of the phone hanging up ended the conversation, and the silence that followed weighed heavier than the roar of the order. I ran my hand over my face, trying to

  • The False Luna   The Price of Poison

POV: MauraThe car stopped in front of the rusty gate, and the headlights still illuminated the undergrowth when the driver turned off the engine. The sound of the engine dying gave me time to breathe before getting out, and I wanted to believe that breath was strength, but it was just fear in disguise. I opened the door and the smell of wet earth and gasoline hit me like an old memory; my heel sank into the damp ground, and mud rose up the sides of my red dress, the same one I usually wear when I want to feign dominance. The cold fabric stuck to my skin, and for a moment I felt angry at myself for being there, for having planned every detail, for knowing how much it degraded me and still not turning back. The lights of the main house flickered at the top of the hill, and the walk to the porch was long enough for me to think about everything I left behind—the comfort of being called Luna even if it was a lie, Carlos's body getting used to my scent, the feeling of having some kind of p
