Nyla’s POV

The warriors struck as soon as Killian's words could be heard.

I whirled, avoiding a sword that was pointed at me. Too sluggish. My knife sliced through my assailant's arm as it flashed. Dropping his sword, he let out a yell.

Killian and I had a burning mate bond, but I pushed that emotion away. He is my adversary.

I turned and met his eyes.

Unlike the others, Killian did not charge at me. He observed. Awaiting. Making calculations.

A fighter sprang forward from behind. I caught his wrist as I spun, pressing my knee into his ribs. He groaned as he fell.

Then—a change in the atmosphere.

Killian shifted.

His fist struck my blade, causing it to fall out of my hand before I could even respond.

My heart was racing. He moves quickly. More powerful than previously.

He scarcely tripped as I kicked out his legs and dived under his next blow.

He ducked another blow and said quietly, "You've improved."

I didn't respond. I was unable to pay for it.

Nyla’s POVThick and heavy, the darkness around me. I had the impression that my body was floating, poised in that weird space between awake and sleeping, between life and death. There was only the sense of being lost in an endless realm; there was no light nor sound. Then a faint light came on. At first, it was tiny, like the first rays of daybreak piercing the night. But it grew brighter and warmer until I felt it envelop me, its soothing presence filling the emptiness.I knew who it was without seeing it.A voice whispered, "Nyla," soft and comforting like the breeze on a warm night. "You are here."Uncertain of how I did it, I opened my eyes. The Moon Goddess was standing in front of me in the luminous light that enveloped me. Her eyes gleamed with the stars as she stood erect, her hair cascading like a river of silver light. Her beauty exceeded my expectations; she exuded strength and wisdom in every way.I said, "My Goddess," unable to conceal my amazement. "What brought me here

Nyla’s POVThe weight of his remarks made the air around me feel heavy and thick. Long shadows were produced on the ground as the flames danced higher and crackled. Even though my heart was racing, nothing could have prepared me for what the Harbinger was going to show me. His eyes met mine; they were both familiar and icy.He replied, "You are not just the daughter of the one who failed," in a low voice that was tinged with a sorrow that was age-old. "You are the bloodline of the First Flame."I blinked as I tried to take in what he had said. "The First Flame?" Confused, I repeated. "What do you mean?"The Harbinger moved in closer, his body encroaching on me like a tempest. Nyla, the First Flame, was a god. One of the gods who used to stand with the other gods. However, he resisted. He was flung down because of his resistance to the others.Breathing caught in my throat. A deity. My forefather?"Rebelled?" I said, finding it difficult to comprehend. How come a god would rebel? What

My heart was racing when I looked up and saw the sky burst out like the opening of an old tomb.A person appeared from the depths of that fissure in the heavens. It was a being of unadulterated strength, something much older and darker than any other figure. His eyes glowed with a wild, ferocious brilliance that could pierce the very fabric of reality itself as he lowered himself slowly. The Herald. Before I even saw him, I sensed his presence. Something ancient, ageless, like something long forgotten that had returned to claim what was rightfully his, thickened the air. As he went down, a trail of fire and ash burned in the sky around him."Who... who is he?" My voice trembled in terror as I whispered.Killian was standing next to me, staring at the creature with disbelief. There's the Harbinger there. The legends have been told to me. However, I n

Nyla’s POVAbove us, the sky was torn apart, and the ground shook beneath my feet. The Hollow World, the very location that had once seemed like a bizarre haven, seemed to be dissolving into nothingness. Power hummed through the air around me, a force so strong I could hardly breathe.I turned to face the youngster, my heart in my throat. He was soaring well above the ground now, his eyes shining with a fierce intensity. His anger was evident, reverberating like a shockwave through the atmosphere. He had let loose an uncontrollable force that threatened to destroy everything.I called out, "No!" but the commotion engulfed my words. The sky was ablaze with orange and crimson flames, and the land was shattering, fractures spreading over the formerly solid ground. The Hollow World itself seemed to be responding to his rage, unable to contain the power he was letting loose. It was difficult to think and breathe because of the intense heat and pressure in the air. Like a storm about to bur

Nyla’s POVMy heart was heavy as I knelt on the chilly stone floor. My son had changed from the young child I had cradled in my arms. The youngster who once clung to my side for solace, the boy who once shared my laughter and tears. His eyes were cold and unidentifiable now, and he was far away."Please..." With my voice breaking, I whispered. "Please, remember me."I extended my hand to touch his arm, but he retreated, his eyes vacant and bewildered. His rejection was a severe hurt, but I refused to give up. Not right now. Not with us so close."Son, it's me," I said in a frantic tone. "Nyla, I am your mother. You were given life by me. You are everything to me.For a considerable amount of time, he looked at me with unblinking dark eyes and an unfathomable face. When he remained silent, my heart broke once more."You don't recall, are you?" I suffocated. "I recall every detail. I recall the day of your birth. I cherish every moment I had with you, every laugh, and every cry. You are

Nyla’s POVLike voices whispering secrets in my ears, the wind howled.Holding Killian's hand, I stepped through the Gate of Echoes. It didn't appear to be a gate. It resembled two broken trees that had been twisted together to form an archway of silver and bone vines. However, the woodland was not visible when I peered through it.I didn't see anything.Just the dark.Out of it blew an odd breeze. It had the scent of ancient magic and forgotten things."Are you prepared?" Killian asked in a quiet voice."No," I said, "but I must be."My son was on my mind. I hear his voice in my heart. My arm was scorched by the map. I saw the chains encircling his hands.I inhaled deeply.I then took a step forward. The universe twisted the instant I stepped inside the gate. All around me fell silent. Even the beat of my heart. My breath, too.I wasn't falling, but I was falling. It was like a sideways tumble.Colours shifted. Gold, silver, black, and blue. Then it was all gone.I thudded to the gro

Nyla’s POVMy nostrils were clogged with smoke. Ash covered my face. But I didn’t stop jogging."Where are you?!" I let out a cry into the fire. “Say something, please!”The ground turned black. It was a gray sky. All around me, trees had fallen like shattered bones. I didn't care, though. I crossed branches that were on fire. I went down. I stood up. I continued. My heart ached. It thumped like if it were about to explode. I had trembling hands. However, I continued to call."Dude! Do you hear me?No response. Only the whisper of withering leaves and the crackle of flames.“Please,” I implored. “Don’t leave me… not again.”I arrived at the location where he had disappeared. The identical place he had been hit by the sword. I dropped to my knees and pressed my palms to the floor. The temperature remained warm.Nothing remained. No sword. No blood. Not even dust.Nothing but quiet. And suffering.Killian was silent behind me. His breathing was harsh and agitated, and I could hear it.“

  • The Forsaken Luna’s Revenge    Chapter 61: Fire in the Heavens

Nyla’s POVThe trees have vanished.Everyone. Burned. Broken and torn.My heart was thumping fiercely in my chest as I stood at the edge of the holy forest. The verdant land had turned black and dead. There was smoke in the air. Above, the sky was too still, too silent.Killian clenched his hands and walked next to me. "This is what they did," he whispered. "The gods."Between us lay our child, quiet, blazing dimly with the last of his transformation's strength. He remained silent. He remained still.I lightly touched his shoulder. "Do you remember this place, sweetie?"Slowly, his golden eyes scanned the surroundings."Yes," he said. "It was living."The ashes crunched under his bare feet as he stepped forward. He leaned to touch a charred bloom, which disintegrated."I didn't intend for this to occur," he said."You didn't do this," I hurriedly murmured as I knelt next to him. "They did." The gods.He looked in my direction. "Is it true that they are terrified of me?"Killian was th

Nyla’s POVI stood frozen. The area where our child had vanished was blazing again—not soft like moonlight, nor raging like fire, but something else.Odd. strong. Ancient.Underwater, the air cracked and rippled like glass. Then a light exploded from the narrow gap between the sky and the earth. High above the altar ruins, it twisted into a perfect circle and spun like a whirlwind. One side of the circle was blazing with orange flames, while the other side was covered in icy black shadows.Half darkness, half fire, a beautiful ring.It floated in the sky, unmoving but humming with energy.Clinging to his arm, I said, "Killian." "See it?"“I see it,” he murmured. He tightened his jaw. That's him. That's our son.In the center of the circle, a shape appeared, tiny at first, then clearer and brighter. He had returned. However, it's not the same. His feet didn’t touch the ground. He hung between the elements, his arms held wide, golden hair swirling in a wind we couldn’t feel. His eyes we
