There was a legend in Mist Pack that whoever possessed the Moonstone Pendant, which was passed down through generations of the pack, would spend a lifetime with their fated mate. When my mate, Lucas, fastened the Moonstone Pendant around my neck, he promised he would never betray me. Later, on the day he publicly ordered me to take it off so he could place it around Layla's neck himself, every werewolf in the pack waited to see how I would react. After all, everyone knew how deeply I loved Lucas. Every time he led a hunting party, I would wait for him atop the pack's highest watchtower. It didn't matter how fiercely the snowstorm raged or if I had to stand there until dawn. Every werewolf wondered how I would tear Layla apart. But when Layla appeared before me while elegantly linking her arm through Lucas's, I simply removed the pendant and fastened it around her neck myself. While holding Layla in his arms, Lucas looked at me with contempt. "Diana, if you can stay as obedient as you are today, I might just let you remain by my side." I touched my bare neck with a blank expression on my face. What Lucas didn't know was that just before the ceremony, all of my memories had returned. I was the daughter of the Alpha King. I was also his only heiress. In three days, my dad would arrive at Mist Pack with his elite guards to bring me home.

The Forsaken Pendant Chapter 11
In the early spring three months later, the snowline had receded to the very base of the Royal City walls. Many things had happened during those three months. One of the scouts Dad assigned to me reported that Layla had become a rogue. She was penniless and had a crippled leg.She had gone to find Lucas, but he refused to see her. With nothing left to lose, Layla used her knowledge of Mist Pack to steal everything of value from the pack before disappearing without a trace. Two weeks later, Dad left me a letter. He wrote in it that he owed Mom too much in this lifetime. They were going away to enjoy the rest of their lives together.I became the youngest Alpha Queen in the kingdom's history. Before the coronation ceremony, the newly crowned Alpha Queen was required to parade through Royal City so her people could see her.I was seated inside the ceremonial carriage. Suddenly, a ragged figure charged out from the crowd. It was Lucas. He had on filthy, tattered clothes and was cl

The day after the recognition ceremony, the royal family openly moved against Mist Pack. The pack's hunting grounds were completely sealed off. Its water supply was cut.The Alphas of neighboring packs, werewolves who had once called Lucas their friend, severed every tie with Mist Pack.In less than two weeks, every territory under Mist Pack's control was absorbed by the royal family. The once-proud Alpha, Lucas, was no more.As the heart of winter arrived, temperatures plunged to their lowest.I lived in the highest tower in Royal City. My windows overlooked the entire kingdom.Every morning, when I pushed open the window, I could see the distant snow-capped mountains emerging through the morning mist.Beneath the tower, I could also see him.Lucas had been standing there for seven consecutive days.My maid told me his stomach illness had become so severe that he was coughing up blood, but no healer dared treat him.Lucas himself seemed to have given up on living. He refuse

Lucas struggled desperately. He looked up at me. For the first time, there was a vulnerable and pleading look in his eyes."Diana. It's me, Lucas. Stop this nonsense. Come back with me, alright?"I'll send Layla away. I'll take the pendant back and return it to you. And your bracelet too. Yes, your bracelet. I'll have it repaired."I stood on the platform and looked down at him. That was the face of the werewolf I had loved for five years. He had once placed the Moonstone Pendant around my neck beneath the moonlight and sworn he would never betray me.Now, that face was pale, gaunt, and repulsive.Gasps echoed through the crowd.I heard one Alpha whisper to another, "That's Lucas from Mist Pack. I heard he drove away the mate who stayed by his side for five years just for his new lover.""Drove her away? Didn't you hear? That mate is actually–""Shhh. Stop talking. The Alpha King is coming."Dad descended the steps and stopped before Lucas.Without hesitation, he drew the

A month later, the largest arena in Royal City lit up.99 towers of flame ignited simultaneously. Each sent a pillar of silver-blue fire into the sky, turning the night sky as bright as day.The Alpha King had reserved the entire arena to hold a grand ceremony unlike any before to officially welcome home his long-lost daughter. The spectator stands were covered with luxurious silver fox pelts, and every seat was occupied by Alphas from each pack.Tonight, the missing heiress to the royal family, who had been gone for five years, would officially return to the spotlight.Lucas attended the ceremony with Layla.Over the past month, Mist Pack had suffered devastating losses.Lucas himself had grown noticeably thinner. His eyes looked hollow, his cheekbones were protruding, and he had an unkempt beard. His stomach illness had also worsened, yet no one could brew the herbal soup that eased his pain the way mine always had.For an entire month, he had exhausted every connection he p
