Wendy was shaking so hard the silver cup in her hands rattled against the tray.

"Miss..." she whispered, her voice watery. "Please. Just a little more. You need..."

"I know," I said. My voice was a low, scratchy thing, the muscles in my neck still screaming in protest. I took the cup from her with my one good hand and drank.

The broth was rich, hot, and tasteless. I drank it all. It wasn't food. It was fuel. Ammunition.

When Ares had left, the terror had left a void. But it wasn't a void of despair. It was cold. It was empty. It was still. The old Yara, the one who cried, the one who felt everything... she was gone. She'd been burned away by Tiana's lies, by Fiona's claws, by Ares's truth.

What was left was this. A hard, cold, observant thing in a broken-doll body.

Heal.

His last command. I would obey it. I would obey it with a ferocity that would have terrified me a week ago.

I spent the next two days in a disciplined, agonizing blur.

I ate every single thing Wendy brought me, my jaw

"We are losing."The words hung in the air between us, heavy and suffocating, drowning out the sound of the battering ram slamming against the heavy oak doors of the keep.BOOM.Dust rained down from the ceiling of the entrance hall. The massive iron hinges groaned, a screeching protest of metal being twisted beyond its limit.I looked at Ares. He didn’t look like the invincible Lycan King anymore. He looked like a man who was calculating the exact moment of his own death. His face was streaked with soot and blood—some his, mostly others. His armor was dented over his ribs where a war hammer had caught him in the courtyard. But his hand, gripping mine, was steady."If they breach," he said, his voice low enough that only I could hear over the din of the chaos outside. "You run for the crypts. There is a tunnel behind the founder's tomb. It leads to the river.""I am not leaving you," I whispered, squeezing his hand so hard my knuckles turned white."Yara""No," I snapped, tu

The war horn blasted through the night, a sound so deep and primal it rattled my bones."ARCHERS!" Ares roared, his voice carrying across the battlements like thunder. "NOCK!"A hundred bows creaked in unison, the sound oddly musical against the chaos. I gripped the stone wall, my knuckles white, watching as Tiana's army began to march forward. They moved like a dark tide across the valley, torches blazing, weapons glinting. The ground trembled beneath their synchronized footsteps. There had to be at least five thousand wolves down there. Maybe more. And we had half our force."How many are combat-ready?" I asked Kael, who stood rigid beside me, his jaw clenched so tight I thought his teeth might shatter."Two thousand warriors," he said grimly. "Maybe two thousand five hundred if we count the wounded who can still hold a blade. The rest are in the infirmary, vomiting their guts out or unconscious."Two thousand against five thousand. The math was brutal."LOOSE!" Ares commanded. The

"Split up," I ordered, my voice steadier than I felt. "Check the infirmary, the gardens, the kitchens. Anywhere they might have gone for help."Valerius shook his head. "Luna, the Alpha's orders were clear. You stay in the Great Hall—""My friends are missing during a lockdown," I snapped. "I'm not hiding while they're in danger.""Then I'm not leaving your side." He jerked his chin at two guards. "You two, check the infirmary. You two, sweep the gardens. Report back immediately."The guards scattered, their boots thundering against the stone floor, but the sound did nothing to drown out the ringing in my ears."Cecilia!" I called out, pushing past Valerius to throw open the door to the small library in the East Wing.Empty.Dust motes danced in the shaft of light cutting through the iron-barred window. The books were undisturbed. The chair where Riel sometimes sat to read was pushed neatly under the table."They aren't here," I whispered, panic tightening its grip on my thro

The glow stayed even after we pulled our hands apart. It beat like a rhythm, alive, buzzing beneath my skin while sinking into my bones.Moira took our hands, tied them tight with a clean cloth strip - her touch steady as she linked us through the hurt. The fabric ran smooth, stitching skin to skin without thread."Speak the words," she commanded.Ares's silver eyes locked onto mine. His voice was steady, resonant. "I bind my blood to yours. My strength to your weakness. My death to your life."My throat was tight, but I forced the words out. "I bind my blood to yours. My heart to your fury. My life to your death."Then it’s over,” Moira said while pulling off the fabric.Ares yanked me close, lips smashing against mine without warning. His kiss took control - rough, hungry - so I just gave in, letting everything else fade away. That connection between us? It locked into place, hard and unbreakable, like hot iron turning solid. When we broke apart, Kael was grinning like an idiot. "Fi

The wedding hadn’t been set weeks ahead. It came together fast - no delays, no drawn-out prep. They set it for early morning."You crazy?" I said, seeing Ares march through the room, already yelling commands to the guards by the door. Because there’s no way we’re pulling off a wedding in just half a dayHe turned back, his expression fierce. "We are not planning a spectacle. We are performing a binding. The Elders. The witnesses. The blood oath. That is all we need.""Ares - ""Do you want to wait?" He crossed back to me, gripping my shoulders. I paused for a moment and said no.The tower turned into a busy mess, yet everything somehow stayed on track.Kael showed up real quick, hair messy, eyes wide. "Alpha, it’s way past twelve."Fetch Elder Moira," Ares commanded. "And the other two Elders. Tell them the Luna has accepted. The binding will occur at first light."Kael’s eyes widened. His gaze snapped to mine, hoping I’d say the boss wasn’t flipping out.I nodded.A grin split his s

The heavy iron bolt of the tower door slid shut with a sound like a guillotine dropping. Thud. The noise vibrated through the floorboards, signaling the end of the performance. The Harvest Festival was over. The music had stopped. The dancing was done. And the silence that rushed in to fill the room was deafening.I stood in the center of the Alpha’s chamber, the emerald green silk of my dress feeling less like a gown and more like a lead weight dragging me down. My skin felt tight, stretched thin over a hollow ache in my chest.Ares didn't speak immediately. He moved through the room with a restless, prowling energy, checking the window latches, stoking the fire until the flames roared up the chimney, casting long, erratic shadows against the black stone walls. He was vibrating with tension. He was still hunting. Even here, behind three locks and stone walls, he was hunting the shadow that had slipped into our home and taken Wendy.“Ares,” I whispered. My voice sounded small,
