#Chapter10

Don’t get mad, get even

Lucille

After my little run-in with Grayson, I did my best to show him I’m a force of nature in someone’s life. He proved to be a Gray. He scheduled me to do mandatory inventory with him. What the hell?

Is it his goal in life to make me miserable with inventory?

I walked towards the back. Oh, look, who’s here? Mr. mood swing, himself.

“Nice of you to join me,” he said.

“Nope.”

“Too bad.”

He smirked. I swear I would throw my clipboard at him. I got to work, counting, and noticed he stepped towards me. I moved away. He blocked me in with no escape.

“Do you mind?”

“Nope, not at all.”

“It’s called personal space. Learn it, you twit.”

“Oh, so, I’m a twit.”

I set my clipboard down and turned to him.

“Why would you kiss me, then take me out, but date someone else?”

“If you mean the girl at that bakery, that was my sister.”

“You expect me to accept that bullshit?”

“No, but it’s the truth.”

“Excuse me, buddy. No guy wipes frosting off of a chick’s mouth when they’re siblings.”

“Why not?”

“Because it’s weird.”

“Good to learn, but she’s still my sister. You would understand if you had siblings.”

I took my clipboard and smacked Grayson on his head. He got angry and yanked the clipboard out of my hands. Well, shit.

He tossed the clipboard to the side and pulled me to him before crashing his lips into mine. His kiss was hungry, turning me on something fierce. He let me go while still holding me.

“Jealousy looks good on you,” he said.

“Oh? And you weren’t jealous when a guy gave his number to me?”

I arched an eyebrow.

“I’ll admit that I didn’t like you getting someone’s number. I prefer you to have only my number.”

Oh, shit.

“I don’t have your number,” I said.

Ha!

He released me. He picked up a pen and scribbled on a piece of paper before tearing it off and handing it to me. I took it and looked at it.

“Now you do.”

I bit my bottom lip. Grayson moved a strand of hair away from my face.

“Luci, you drive me crazy.”

“Well, it wouldn’t be fun if I didn’t.”

I smirked as he scoffed.

“Why didn’t you work Saturday?”

He whirled his hand and furrowed his brows.

“I had to take care of something.”

He walked over, picked up his clipboard, and continued to work, leaving me confused. I picked up my clipboard, returning to work. Wow, that was quick. After that, we didn’t talk.

After my shift, I handed him my clipboard, saying nothing. I’m not into a hot/cold behavior. If someone is dishonest, then I’m not the girl for them, no matter how impressive their kisses are.

I walked to the front, clocked out, and grabbed my stuff. Grayson ran towards me.

“Luci! Wait!”

I finished putting on my coat.

“Did you need something?” I asked.

“I don’t want you to assume I’m not interested because I am.”

“Uh-huh, sure.”

I button my final coat button.

“I want to tell you personal matters, but in time. I promise.”

“Grayson, I get it. It doesn’t mean I’ll wait around for you. I’m not that girl who pines for someone and waits forever to declare their undying love. If a person likes someone, then they’ll prove it. People don’t chase after someone, worrying about fear. It’s bullshit. If you like someone, nothing will stop you.”

I patted his chest and walked away. That was the problem with people nowadays. They worry too much and don’t realize their happiness.

Grayson

I watched as Luci left. I want to tell her all but didn’t consider her reaction. I hadn’t felt this way since Marnie. Luci affects me in a way that few girls do.

She’s stubborn, honest, funny, smart, and so much more. I’ve met no one like her. She’s similar yet different from Marnie.

I grabbed my stuff, heading home. The minute I came inside, I set my keys down and walked over to the picture frame that held Marnie and me in it. I would have married her and had a family.

We talked about having a family. Then the call came, which flipped my world upside down. My anger took over. I threw the picture frame against the wall, breaking it upon impact.

I stared at the mess, kind of like my life. I pondered about what Luci said. She’s right.

I looked at my watch. It was too late to see Luci. Tomorrow, I would talk to her or show her. Then she would understand me.

Tomorrow, Luci, you’ll find out.
