Chapter 2

Author: Crystal K
"The baby was conceived through IVF," Felix explained, his voice rushed. "I only provided the sample. We never… you know. Nothing physical."

My eyes widened.

IVF?

"Felix!" Isabella covered her face, tears streaming through her fingers. "How could you say something so private out loud?"

But I saw a flash of triumph in her eyes.

"Are you insane?" My voice trembled as I screamed at Felix. "Letting another woman carry your child?"

"I was helping Isabella fulfill her dream of becoming a mother."

Felix pleaded, his eyes desperate for me to understand. "She's had a weak heart since she was a child. Her body is too frail. This was her only chance. Besides, she saved my life…"

"And what about me?" I cut him off. "What about the baby in my belly?"

"A 'savior'?"  I looked at Isabella, a cold, tearful laugh escaping my lips. "You never mentioned she was also your first love. Your old flame!"

Felix flinched.

"Get rid of it," I said, pointing at Isabella's stomach. "Now."

"That's impossible." Felix's face hardened. "She's seven months along. It's too late for an abortion. And Isabella's heart—"

"I don't care about her heart!" I shouted. "Felix, do you have any idea what I've been through these past three months? Everyone whispering behind my back about me being pregnant out of wedlock, and you never once acknowledged our relationship in public!"

My eyes were red, tears threatening to spill over. "And now you're giving interviews for her?"

Felix's tone softened. "Vivian, please try to understand—"

"Understand what? That you're letting another woman have your baby while I'm treated like some mistress you have to hide in the shadows?"

Before I could finish, Isabella suddenly clutched her chest, her face pale. "I… I don't feel well…"

"Isabella!" Felix immediately rushed to her side, glaring at me. "Look what you've done! If she has a heart attack—"

He turned his anger on me fully. "If you push her any further, our engagement is off."

His words were a shard of ice stabbing into my heart.

The tears finally broke free.

The sight of my tears seemed to break through his anger.

His expression softened, and he pulled me aside, lowering his voice.

"Vivian. Sweetheart. You're the one I love, only you. Please, just believe me. Give me a little more time. As soon as Isabella's baby is born, I swear, I'll give you the grandest wedding imaginable—"

"Felix…" Isabella's weak voice interrupted him.

She was clutching her stomach and her heart. "The baby… the baby's kicking. I feel so sick. Can you please take me home?"

Felix looked at me, then back at Isabella.

In the end, he let go of my hand and turned to her.

"I'll have the driver take you back," he said to me, before sweeping Isabella up into his arms and carrying her toward a luxury car.

In the taxi, I watched the Rolls-Royce disappear in the rearview mirror.

Back at the apartment, I felt a sharp pain in my lower abdomen.

I clutched my slightly rounded belly, and the tears started flowing again, uncontrolled.

Since Daddy doesn't want us, Mommy will take you away, okay?

I would never let my baby be despised by its own father before it was even born.

I went into the bedroom, pulled out a suitcase, and began methodically erasing every trace of myself from the apartment.

Late that night, the lock clicked.

Felix was back.

"What are you doing?" he demanded, his voice sharp as he stared at the packed suitcases on the floor.

"I'm ending our engagement," I said without looking up.

"I don't agree." He grabbed my wrist. "Vivian, stop this nonsense."

"Nonsense?" I shook him off. "Felix, you're the one being nonsensical. Letting another woman carry your child—that's not nonsense?"

"I told you, once she gives birth—" he started, repeating the same excuses.

"I can't wait. Either I go, or you get rid of Isabella's baby!"

Smack!

Felix actually slapped me.

"That's enough!" he roared. "How could you even think something so vicious?!"

Felix dropped all pretense of being gentle.

He slammed the door and stormed out in a rage.

I collapsed, all my strength gone.

I went into the bathroom and let my tears mix with the hot water from the shower, a silent, wrenching release.

Just as I got out, I picked up my phone to check the time.

A notification from Instagram popped up.

Isabella had posted a new photo at three in the morning.

It was of Felix, sitting by her hospital bed, his hand gently caressing her pregnant stomach.

His gaze was tender and focused, as if he were looking at the most precious treasure in the world.

The caption was just one sentence: "Best daddy & husband-to-be in the world."

The blood drained from Felix's face."Sterling Technologies. The largest tech investment group on the West Coast," I said, rising from my chair. "Annual revenue of thirty billion dollars. And I am the sole heir.""And you think 30% of Blackwood's shares could possibly impress me?" I walked to the window. "Felix, do you even know what Blackwood is worth right now?" I turned back to him. "According to our financial analysis, the Blackwood Group currently has a debt-to-equity ratio of 85%."I looked him straight in the eye. "A partnership? I decline."A strange, almost manic smile spread across Felix's face. "Vivian, you're still angry with me, aren't you? I knew you still cared! Trust me, this time I'll prove—"I looked at him like he was a pathetic clown."Security, please escort our guest out."As the guards dragged him away, Felix was still shouting, "Vivian! I'll prove it to you! I will!"The next day, a large bouquet of roses arrived at the Sterling reception desk."From Mr. Felix

Vivian's POV"Vivian, focus."My father's voice pulled me from my thoughts. We were sitting in the top-floor conference room of Sterling Technologies, the magnificent view of the San Francisco Bay spread out before us."Artificial intelligence and clean energy are the most promising sectors for the next decade," my father said, pointing to the data on the screen. "What are your thoughts on this project?""The ROI is good, but the risk assessment needs to be more detailed," I said, flipping through the file. "I suggest a small-scale pilot investment to test the market first."My father nodded, a flicker of pride in his eyes. "You have a natural instinct for this, Vivian. I always knew you did." An assistant knocked and entered. "Mr. Sterling, the financial news is on."A familiar scene appeared on the television screen: a rerun of the scandalous Blackwood wedding. I saw Felix standing frozen on the aisle, Isabella sobbing on the floor, and the guests in an uproar.I suddenly remember

"Felix, are you ready?" Isabella, dressed in a custom white gown with a diamond tiara sparkling in the light, asked. He nodded, but his mind was a million miles away. All he could see was Vivian's face. Where was she now? Was she okay? The music started in the grand ballroom. Felix mechanically put his arm around Isabella's waist and walked down the aisle. The guest list was a who's who of business tycoons and socialites. Camera flashes popped incessantly as reporters documented the "wedding of the century."But his heart felt like a dead weight in his chest."Felix, you don't look well," Isabella whispered. "Think about our child. You're going to be a wonderful father."Felix forced a smile. Yes, at least there was the child."And now, the bride and groom will exchange rings," the officiant announced with a smile.Felix picked up the diamond ring, ready to place it on Isabella's finger.Suddenly, a young man from the audience stood up."Stop the wedding!"The entire room fell s

Margaret sneered. "Get a grip, Felix. That Vivian girl was just some commoner trying to marry into money. Getting rid of her bastard child is nothing but a benefit to this family.""Bastard?" Felix shot up, his eyes bloodshot. "Mom, do you have any idea who you killed?" He stood, trembling with rage. "Vivian was carrying the one and only heir to the Blackwood family!"Margaret's wine glass froze mid-air."Isabella's child was conceived through IVF. She was never my lover!""What?" Margaret's face went white."I never touched Isabella," Felix said, his voice choked with agony. "It was all to help her fulfill her dream of being a mother. I only provided a sperm sample."The wine glass slipped from Margaret's hand and shattered on the floor, red wine splashing like blood."You mean… the one I had the doctor get rid of was…""Your only grandchild," Felix's voice was a death sentence.Margaret sank onto the sofa, speechless. But after a moment, her composure returned."What's done is done

My suitcase was dumped open behind me. To make sure I couldn't escape, Felix had his men confiscate all my communication devices. But he didn't know I had a second phone, one I used exclusively to contact my father.Swallowing the pain in my heart, I dialed the number I hadn't called in a long time."Dad, it's me," I said, my voice heavy with exhaustion and tears."Vivian? You don't sound right.""It's Felix. I don't want to marry him anymore." I quickly explained the situation. "Can you send someone to pick me up?""Who dares to bully my daughter!" my father's voice boomed over the phone, laced with fury. "No daughter of mine—no Sterling—will be treated this way. I'm sending a team for you immediately."The next morning, Felix left for the office. But Isabella suddenly appeared at the attic, unlocking the chain."You seem to be enjoying yourself," she said, scanning the room. "Living in Felix's home, under his care."Enjoying myself? In this dusty attic?"What do you want?" I asked,

I stared at that photo all night. The next morning, a text from Felix arrived: "Isabella's heart was acting up last night, so I stayed with her at the hospital. Stop making a scene and get some rest."It was painfully dismissive.I didn't reply. I just grabbed my suitcase and prepared to leave. It was time to go back to my father. But as I reached the front door, it was violently thrown open, sending me stumbling backward."So this is the woman?"A middle-aged woman in a Hermès suit strode in, followed by a lawyer and two bodyguards in black.Margaret Blackwood. Felix's mother."Mrs. Blackwood, what are you—""Shut up." Margaret looked me up and down with cold disdain. "I agreed to your engagement because you were pregnant. I never expected that the child wouldn't be Felix's! How dare you try to trap my son with a bastard child?""It's not a bastard, it's Felix's—""Felix's?" Margaret scoffed. "My son already has a child on the way, and it's the one in Isabella's belly. You shameless g
