Paige's POV

For one suspended heartbeat, I forgot how to breathe.

Knox curled his hand around the back of my neck, holding me captive while he plundered my mouth. His lips are hard, rough, and demanding. He doesn't ease in. He devours.

He kissed the way we fought. Hard. Explosive.

I regained control of my limbs and raised my hands to push him away, but to my surprise, I fisted his hair instead. I kissed him back with the same desperation. I hate that I want him so badly. It had never felt like

  • The Hockey Player who Hates me    Chapter 44- Not my type

Paige's POV"Something happening between Knox and me?" I let out a bitter laugh. "Never in a million years."For just a second — barely a flicker — something that looked almost like pain crossed Knox's face.Gone before I could be sure I'd even seen it.I didn't see that happening in a thousand years. She hasn't been around much to know that he hates the sight of me just like I do his. I do, right?Sienna blinked."When someone usually says that," she said slowly, "it usually turns out not to be true."Silence stretched between us. I stared at her, trying to figure out what exactly she was implying."No, no, no, no, no." I shook my head so hard my hair moved with it. "Absolutely not."Leah burst out laughing. "They're always like this," she told Sienna. "Trust me. They've been annoying each other forever. I wish they would move the beef along and just be friends."Sienna still looked unconvinced."Seriously, there's nothing going on between them." Leah continued, waving a hand. "Paig

  • The Hockey Player who Hates me    Chapter 43- Cafeteria

Paige’s POVFor one stupid second, I forgot how to breathe. He looked so annoyingly sexy.He was wearing a black, tight-fitting top that made his abs painfully prominent, the dark ink of his tattoo disappearing beneath the sleeve. My eyes lingered for half a second too long. Then his eyes dragged over me.Slowly.I resisted the urge to smooth down my hair.It was the first time he’d looked at me for more than a second since I’d told him to get out of my apartment.Since then he had spent the week pretending I didn’t exist.I forced myself to look away. Enzo appeared at the table and sat at the end, a large plate of lasagna and fettuccine in front of him.Knox appeared next, stoic as ever.“Hey, stranger.” Sienna’s whole face lit up.She immediately scooted her chair over to make room before he’d even sat down.I felt an unpleasant swirl in my stomach. Knox dropped into the seat beside her. No food in sight. What was he doing here? He never came to the cafeteria.Other students were

  • The Hockey Player who Hates me    Chapter 42- The Coach’s daughter

Paige's POV I turned around. My stomach lurched.Sienna.She stood there with a tray balanced on one hand, smiling so brightly it almost made me feel guilty for avoiding her since the day at the cafe.“Paige!” she said, walking over. “It’s actually you!”I forced a smile onto my face.“Hey, Sienna.”“Call me Sia, all my friends call me that.” She smiled so brightly, genuinely excited to see me.“Where have you been?” She frowned playfully. “I’ve been texting you, calling you!”Guilt pricked at me.I had seen every single message.Coffee after class. A study session.I’d ignored all of them.“I’ve just been so….” I lifted my shoulders. “Busy.”“The internship right?”I nodded quickly, grateful she’d given me an excuse. “It’s been a little crazy.”“I figured.” She laughed softly. “I’m still trying to catch up with classes myself, so I get it.”She glanced around the crowded cafeteria before looking back at me.“Can I sit with you guys, everywhere seems so cramped.”Before I could answe

  • The Hockey Player who Hates me    Chapter 41- A bad friend

Paige's POVAfter classes, I went straight to the cafeteria. I’d promised Leah I’d meet her for lunch. The place was in its usual lunchtime chaos. Conversations overlapped from every direction, trays clattered against tables, and the smell of fries and coffee filled the air.I spotted Leah immediately. She was already at our usual table by the window, completely absorbed in her phone. Before I could get to her, a guy from Leah's class stopped by her table. “Hey, Leah.”She looked up with her usual bright smile. “Hey!”“You’re coming to the hockey game on Saturday, right?” He held up two tickets between his fingers. “I grabbed extras if you need one.”“Oh.” Leah laughed. “I haven’t even decided yet. I’ll let you know,” she promised.“Don’t take too long. They’ll be gone.” He walked off after a quick wave.Right.Saturday.The first hockey game of the season. The whole campus had been talking about it for days. Apparently it was a huge deal because it kicked off the season… and everyo

  • The Hockey Player who Hates me    Chapter 40- Back to basics

Paige’s POVThe week flew by while I kept my distance from Knox and the rest of the hockey team.Every practice followed the same routine — walk in, exchange a quick hello with Enzo and Woody—who had somehow become my fast friends because Woody was genuinely one of the funniest people I’d ever met—take my notes, observe practice, then disappear before anyone could stop me.After what happened in my apartment, I wasn’t interested in giving Knox another opportunity to get under my skin. And he made it ridiculously easy.He hadn’t tried to approach me once. Not a single word or look.It was almost like he didn't exist until I saw him at the rink. For a second in my apartment, I had actually thought Knox was jealous. That was ridiculous. To be jealous, he had to like me, which was impossible. It was almost insulting how easily he’d gone from being mad about Mike to acting like I wasn’t there. But that was good. That’s what I asked him to do.But if I was being honest, I was angry.Mike

  • The Hockey Player who Hates me    Chapter 39- “Get out”

Knox's POVWords couldn't describe the confusion — or the disbelief — that hit me as I stood in Paige's apartment, staring at her.For a second, I genuinely thought I'd heard her wrong."Paige…" A slow smirk tugged at the corner of my mouth. "You think Sienna is my girlfriend?"The color drained from her face. She looked like she wanted the floor to open up and swallow her whole. I searched her face, trying to figure out how she'd arrived at that conclusion. Then it clicked. The way she'd looked at us in the café. The awkwardness. A laugh escaped me.I stayed behind after Sienna left because it was late and there was no way in hell I was letting her walk home by herself at ten o’clock. Even if I hated her, she's still my sister's best friend. Or so I told myself. She’d rewarded me with pepper spray and somehow she’d managed to convince herself I was there because of another girl.My history with Sienna was complicated, but it was none of her business, not after her little charade wi

CHAPTER FOURPAIGES POVIt was almost four o’clock in the morning by the time I finally got to my apartment. It was too quiet.Leah was probably sleeping, judging by the fact that she didn't jump me with questions. I dragged myself upstairs to my room, it appeared as though Leah helped me clear th

CHAPTER THREEPAIGES POVHoly f—The punch landed so hard that Mike staggered backwards crashing into a table. My hand flew to my mouth, barely stopping the scream that tried to escape. I could hear gasps from every corner of the club. People whispering“Wait…”“Isn't that Knox, the hockey player?”

CHAPTER TWOPaige’s POVThat voice,“Hello Midget” I froze in place as soon as I met his gaze.Knox Tatum, AKA my best friend's brother and the one person I hated. He had changed a lot. Knox looked like a walking Greek god. I drank the whole sight in. He was over 6’3, towering over my 5’6 frame, hi

  • The Hockey Player who Hates me    The breakup

PAIGE’S POVI shaved twiceOnce because I’d missed a spot, and again to ensure it was all smooth down there.I gave my reflection another look in the mirror. A smile stretched on my lips on seeing myself. Leah, my best friend, had spent nearly an hour curling my 4b long hair into glossy spirals.M
