Chapter 4

Still holding a crying baby Richard I watched in shock as my mother’s body fell on top of the hunter who shot her. I say him turn towards me with his gun and in auto pilot I jumped out the same window I had previously came in from.

I felt like a damn coward but I couldn’t fight reliably with baby Richard there as a possible casualty if things went south. I ran as fast as I could to the training grounds and hid Richard in the weapons shed. I ran towards where my Dad was previously before hiding behind at tree.

I noticed that he killed an opponent since I last saw him so he was currently dealing with the two that remained. Despite having taken one of them out I saw that my Dad wasn’t going to win without help. He had various bruises and cuts that I prayed were free of poison. Also I was unable to see if he had sustained worse internal injuries from this distance. I could also see tears and rage in my father’s eyes. He must have felt the mate bond break and was fuelled by rage. While this gave him extra strength, it also made his fighting style impulsive and a little sloppy.

I was brainstorming where to hide Richard so I could help Dad protect Sofia when the hunter who killed my mother came over to join his friends.

“ They have an older daughter as well. I managed to kill this traitors werewolf bitch but the kid escaped with her baby brother. The kid even managed to kill Jordan. I suspect she also killed everyone else as Hank was dead on the ground and Jake is missing!,” the hunter yelled at his comrades.

I saw some relief on Dad’s face when he realized me and my brother were presumably safe but it was short lived as he still needed to keep Sofia safe. While the hunters had their attention divided between the fight and what their friend told them I climbed to tree I had been hiding behind and pulled out my bow. I quickly lined up my first shot and managed to his the hunter to my dad’s left right through the throat causing the other hunters to panic and look around.

I purposely wanted to use a bow instead of a gun to make my location harder to find as it would make less sound. My father took the distraction as the hunter I shot went down, to deal a fatal blow to his remaining opponent by stabbing him in the chest where his heart is located. I notched another arrow and shot the jerk who called my mother a bitch before he could attack my father.

Seeing that we had seemingly taken down our enemies I jumped down from the tree bending, my knees to break the fall, before running straight to my dad who was trying to comfort Sofia.
