Chapter 3

I was aware that I had roughly five minutes till they started wondering where their companion was so I needed to be quick. I slunk my way around the corner of the the house using a rose bush as cover and saw another hunter. They were pacing back and forth military style. I waited till they came to my end just by the rose bush and when they weren't looking poked them gently with my dagger on their wrist. I was careful to pull it back and quietly hide.

My plan was very risky but I was hoping they would only think they had nicked themselves on a rose thorn. If they looked too closely they would definitely see me. I crossed my fingers and prayed to any god or goddess I could think of. They quickly looked at their wrist and glared in my direction. I thought I was caught but they began muttering something about dumb overrated flowers before continuing their path. My plan had worked. In roughly three minutes they should be feeling weak, unable to move in six minutes and be dead in about ten minutes.

I went back making sure to avoid windows before going to the opposite side of the house. As I was trying to come up with a plan for taking down the last hunter on watch without being detected something came crashing out the window.

It was one of the two hunters that were searching inside. The one I had just been planning on killing checked his friends pulse before cursing and jumping through the now shattered window. It seemed they found Mom and she was pissed. I could hear her wolf losing her shit.

I jumped in just in time. My mom had her claws digging into the chest of the other hunter that had been searching the house. However she was not moving or completing the kill. The hunter who just came in from outside was holding a crying two month old Richard and in his other hand he had a knife holding it at Richard's throat.

I was seething. My mother didn't dare make a move or let her hostage go in fear for Richard's life. If I had just taken out all the hunters who were on guard faster we wouldn't have this problem.

Luckily he hadn't spotted me so I silently came up behind him put right under his pulling the knife away from Richie. Then I sliced his left elbow forcing him to release Richard. The jackass cried out but I had managed to get my little brother away and Mom's wolf gave me a nod of approval.

The happiness was short lived because as Mom was distracted the hunter under her pulled out their gun and shot her point blank with a silver bullet coated in wolfsbane.
