Beyond understanding

Callisto's fingernails beat on the wooden table in a rhythm that's orderly even though his mind is far away. Despite his best efforts, he's unable to recall the moment he lost control. His head is completely blank. It's as if he didn't do it. In fact, if the circumstances were different, and he was told by someone else that he did such a thing, he wouldn't believe it.
