I stood up from the ground and ceased the rain within the small clearing I was in with the flick of my wrist. I couldn’t sit there and wallow anymore. Self loathing wasn’t going to help. Practicing my powers would though. I needed to focus on anything other than Alpha Xander.

“Let’s train Weather.”

“Are you sure you want to do this right now? You know it takes a lot of concentration.”

“I’m sure.”

After listening and sniffing my surroundings to make sure no one was close, I summoned Weather. In no time, we were on all fours and I was looking down at Weathers sapphire blue paws that glowed under the moonlight. Our fur always showed bits of silver when under the moon to show we were blessed by the Goddess herself. The silver bits looked like raindrops were cascading down our fur but the real beauty was when we were running and the silver transformed into a torrential downpour.

“What should we train? I’ve been wanting to try summoning a mini tornado.”

“That’s going to take a lot of concentration and power but I know we can manage.”

In the beginning, my powers were linked to my emotions and it took a long time for me to manage my moods and feelings. By the time I was five, I was able to summon rain with the flick of my wrist instead of it only coming when I was upset. From that day forward, I’d always had a handle on my emotions.

The moon was shining high in the sky with little to no clouds so I knew it would be a perfect night to try something advanced, knowing we could pull strength straight from the moon. I dug my paws into the earth and was just about to try to summon the wind when Weather stopped.

“I hear someone,” she said. She lifted her nose into the air to smell the intruder when I was hit with the most intoxicating scent. It reminded me of the air after a thunderstorm mixed with pure male musk, instantly making me salivate. At that moment all I wanted to do was run in the direction of the scent and bury my nose in it.

I was kicked out of the trance I was in when Weather started panicking in my head. “It’s our mate! If we can smell him I guarantee he can smell us. I’m going to shift back then you need to summon the rain to wash away our scent.”

Less than a second later I was back on two feet and hurriedly put my clothes back on. I could hear Xander coming closer so I summoned rain before Weather retreated back into the depths of my head where no one but me could sense her.

“I thought you wanted him to know we were his mate?” I asked her. She’d been telling me we needed our mate for so long, hiding her seemed like the last thing she’d want.

“The time isn’t right yet,” was all she said.

“Why can I smell him now but couldn’t earlier in the dining room?”

“I blocked his mate scent from you so you wouldn’t freak out and run before you got the chance to see him.”

I rolled my eyes at her.

The rain poured down around me drenching my clothes and washing away the scent of Weather but nothing had ever felt better. I was always the most comfortable and calm in the rain.

Suddenly I heard the bushes across from me move and soon after a large gray wolf stepped out of the deep woods.

He was magnificent and easily one of the largest wolves I’d ever come across. His wolf was only a bit smaller than my fathers was but while dads wolf was midnight black, Xanders was a deep charcoal gray that reminded me of the skies during a storm.

I know I should have pretended to look afraid but I was too busy being captivated by the wolf of my mate. I shouldn’t be surprised by the size of his wolf considering he was mated to me, the rightful Queen, but I still couldn’t help but be amazed by him.

I felt a pang in my chest when he turned around and walked back into the thick of the forest, wondering why he was leaving but realized why when he came back in human form wearing sweatpants a few seconds later.

“Damn our mate is hot,” came Weathers voice. I wanted to scoff at her but couldn’t because fuck was she right. Now that he wasn’t dressed in his suit and didn’t have a shirt on, I could get a good look at him. He had hard, chiseled muscles in all the right places that could make any girl drool, with tattoos going down each of his arms and across his chest. His defined eight pack was glistening with the falling rain drops that fell until they reached the band of his sweatpants just below his delicious Adonis belt.

“Holy shit,” was the only response I had back to her.

I was fully aware I was staring and checking him out but I found it near impossible to stop. As his dark brown hair that was cut shorter on the sides and left longer on top fell down in front of his eyes, I couldn’t help but thank the Goddess for giving me a God of a man as a mate.

The dirty thoughts and images of him I had in my head made by not only my wolf, but myself too, evaporated when I looked up and found a smirk sitting on his plump lips. He caught me staring at him but to be fair, he was checking me out too.

The smirk never left his lips as he asked, “What are you doing out here all alone? Don’t you know the forest can be quite dangerous, especially at night?”

His voice was deep and sent a jolt down my spine that gathered right between my legs, causing an unfamiliar ache in my core. I could listen to this man talk for hours. Damn mate bond.

I looked into those silver eyes and wore a smirk of my own. “Don’t worry, I can take care of myself.”

“Is that right?” he chuckled, taking a few steps towards me. Goddess, even the sound of his laugh was beautiful.

I propped my hands on my waist and cocked a hip out. “Well that was until the big bad wolf decided to make an appearance.” I knew I shouldn’t be flirting with him but I just couldn’t help myself. “The real question is, what are you doing out here?”

I watched his silver eyes start to glow, letting me know his wolf was present.

“I thought I smelled something. It led me to this spot but now the scent is gone.”

He smelled my wolf and me. He smelled the mate bond.

Any normal girl would have told him he was their mate but my life was far from normal. It was only a matter of time before my life turned dangerous and having a mate was something I didn’t think would be good for me. A mate would be a distraction and just one more person to be used against me.

Didn’t mean I couldn’t have some fun with him in the meantime. He would probably leave tomorrow after his dealings with Alpha David and then I wouldn’t see him again until fate decided to bring us back together.

I wasn’t sure I was breathing. My heart was pounding in my chest at Braxton’s words. The tears that wanted to form in my eyes were held back with the greatest restraint. Now wasn’t the time to behave like a teenage girl.I needed to stand tall and regal like the queen I was, despite wanting nothing more than to sob into my mates chest while he held me.Later. I could fall apart later.I still was at a loss for words. Rogues, who have been treated horribly for only the Goddess knows how long, want to fight. For me. After I have handed them freedom on a silver platter.I opened my mouth. Then closed it. Opened it again.I probably looked like a fish out of water.I honestly didn’t know how I felt right now. A mix of disbelief, pride, fear, gratitude. My head was a whole mess of emotions but I couldn’t worry about that right now. I was in a room full of alpha’s and I needed to remind them of why I was in charge here.I steadied my breathing, swallowed once, and said, “Thank you Braxton a

Every single girl who had been held there watched with tears in their eyes as their worst nightmare became nothing but cinders in

With Raina’s mind a little less chaotic, I led her over to stand at the head of the table. The other alphas would be here any minute, my warriors at the borders informing me of their arrival in the pack already. Everyone was on time and every single one of them showed up.Hayden and one of the men he gathered walked in first, the former bowing his head to Raina and me immediately. The man beside him was wide eyed, but looked at my mate with respect and gratitude. He walked up to us slowly, bowing his head as he said, “My queen. Hayden has told me everything about your role in rescuing our families and then sending him to find us. You have my support and loyalty.”A soft smile curled at her lips as she said, “What is your name?”His eyes were still cast down as he replied, “Braxton, your majesty. My mate is Helena.”“Ah.” Raina’s eyes lit with recognition. “Your mate is a lovely woman. She has told me a lot about you. I’m happy to finally get to meet you face to face.”He finally looke

It was the morning of the meeting with the other alphas and my stomach was in knots.Don’t ask me why I was so nervous because I couldn’t give you a straight answer. There were so many thoughts running through my head. What if someone pulled out and left us high and dry? What if they decided the risks weren’t worth it? I’d be devastated but ultimately, respect their decision.I may be a queen but I was no dictator.I didn’t feel very queen-like as I paced back and forth in the council room. My brain was running a million miles a minute. I barely slept last night despite Xander’s attempt to exhaust me.I thoroughly enjoyed his efforts and my body was tired. But my mind? Wide awake like it chugged espresso.I can’t tell you how many times I contemplated ripping my own head off last night just to get an hour of sleep but I couldn’t lead a war headless so here I was, suffering for the greater good.I’d been through worse.Weather was no better. I was so damn happy Hayden was back but at the same time, I wanted to ring his neck for taking so long. With each day that passed and he didn’t show up, I grew more and more worried, afraid something had happened to him. I checked in with his mate at least twice a day. Her assurances that he was still alive and not in any pain were the only things that kept me from going mad.Xander had the warrior at the border tell Hayden and the men with him to head to the rogue camp where all their loved ones were. I ended practice early and the two of us sped over to greet them. The place was in utter chaos when we arrived but in the best way possible.Cries of joy could be heard from every corner of the camp as families were reunited. Mates embraced, holding on to each other so tight like they never wanted to let go. Fathers hugged their children and apologized for being gone so long. The ones whose mates or family members died during the attacks watched on with watery smiles. Tears streamed do

It’s been a week since we snuck into Blood Moon pack and rescued the women from the cells Ezra kept them in so he could sell them on the black market. It was a very long week of getting a hold of their families and making sure they made it home. Some didn’t have loved ones waiting for them so we gave them a place in the pack. The ones who stayed with us were doing well. Raina, Victoria, and Madeline made sure they felt comfortable and got them set up with a therapist to work through any trauma. A lot of them decided to join in the training, wanting to be able to defend themselves in case something like that ever happened to them again. It would take a while but they would slowly heal and come out of their shells. They stayed away from the men but have warmed up to my mate. She spent most of her days either training, hanging out with the new rescues, or with the rogues. We still haven’t heard from Hayden and I could tell it was weighing heavily on Raina. His mate assured her he was sti
