I could not help but feel a bit of hatred for my father and mother after I heard the truth. It felt so heavy to carry, that I couldn’t look at them in the eye after that. It affected me a lot. I felt like I was thrown away. Like my value had diminish, and that being the Lycan King’s concubine was my last purpose.
It felt surreal. I was even denial. But as the day passed, and the schedule of the inauguration came, I couldn’t do anything but grasp at the horrifying truth that I no matter what I do, the nightmare had already became my reality, and that the only way to escape it was to live through it.It sucked. Especially when I finally had to come with the Lycans and leave the pack I grew up in. It was suffocating. But what probably hurts the most is the aftermath. That afterwards, I’d try to survive in a place where I knew no one, whilst their lives would remain the same.“I heard you fought with your parents yesterday.” Declan spoke to break the silence. “Did he really not tell you the truth?”“I wouldn’t have reacted that way if he did,” I responded blatantly.I was kind to him the first time because I believed in my father. I knew we had to gain his trust within five years, and for that, I’ll have to behave. But it was forfeited. After what happened, I decided I would no longer act like I was supposed to. This was the only thing I could do to release what I was feeling.“I see. Then, may I ask if you have a mate?”“He would’ve appeared before you if I had.” Wolves were territorial. Not to mention the mate bonds, that strongly enhanced our emotions for our partner. If I had a mate, he definitely would not allow this to happen.I’d have more reason to hate him, then.‘But he’s handsome, Eve. You have to admit,’ Lexi commented.‘Oh shut up. He’s married.’ I replied.“Good…” He said in a low tone. “That would make things easier. Can we set a schedule this week?”I turned to him. “Schedule for what?”“I need you to have my baby, Eve. For that, we’ll have to create a schedule.”I could not believe how he sounded so calm, and natural. Was impregnating women normal to him?“Does your wife even know about this?” I asked, a little upset. “Will she even approve?”“You don’t need to know about that.” His tone changed a bit. It became a little… fierce. “Your only role is to serve and satisfy me, Eve.”Serve and satisfy…Can’t his wife satistfy him?“You can set the date.” My jaw thickened. “But we only have to do it once a week—”“You don’t have a right to make demands, Eve.” Declan’s eyes pierced me. “We’ll do it whenever I have time.”“Whenever you have time?” My brows met. “What am I, a pig?”“Language, Miss Lamperogue.”I bit my tongue for a minute to suppress myself. “I am your mistress, your Majesty. I believe I should at least have a say on our schedule.”“That isn’t in the agreement.”“Our schedule isn’t in the agreement either.” I countered. “Your Majesty, I suggest we only do it once a week.”“Fine…” His lips pursed. “Twice a week.”Twice a week?‘Just fucking accept it, Eve. You’re even lucky he’s willing to reconsider.’ Lexi asserted.Lucky? I was STILL lucky at this state? I snorted and rolled my eyes. “Fine.”Declan’s eyes continued to stare at me. I ignored him, and looked outside the carriage. We still have plenty of time left before we could arrive to their territory, so I decided to use that time to get a sleep. Though it was a little hard at first because I could feel his gaze, the silence helped.I only woke up when I felt a hand tapping my shoulder. When I opened my eyes, Declan was already gone. The carriage have stopped, too. What I saw on my side was a woman I immediately recognized as someone who was the same age as me. She smelled like a Lycan.No. This place was reeking of Lycans.“Who are you?” I asked as I sat properly. “Where is Your Majesty?”“I do not know, Miss Eve. But I was told to wake you up after the meals are ready. “ She smiled politely at me. “I’m Lilienne, Miss Eve. Your assigned servant..”A servant. So Declan appointed one for me.“I’m not hungry, Lilienne. Take me to my chamber.” I said with in monotone, as I gave her my hand to ask for support.Lilienne helped me get out the carriage. It was in front of the big mansion I believed was Declan’s. I looked around. But just as I thought there would be people swarming out around me, there was no one.Which I found odd. When we came here to accept the treaty, the Lycans were all over the place, why weren’t there any now? I was expecting for a crowd.‘The Lycan King probably forbid them to see you,’ said Lexi.My brows furrowed. ‘Why would he do that for me?’“You should eat, Miss Eve. The Lycan King strictly ordered me not to take you to your room unless you eat.”“Then, let me eat inside my room.”“I cannot do that.”My shoulders slumped down. Right, this was his territory.“Take me to the dining area.”Lilienne nodded at me. It was only then she moved ahead to lead the way. She opened the door for me, and took me inside. But what awaits me in the kitchen wasn’t only the food, but all of the King’s servants as well. Includig the cook, guards, and some of his betas that I supposed were also living in this mansion for extra protection. They introduced themselves, and offered their assistance to me.Probably what their King told them to do the second I arrive.I couldn’t remember all their names, but they were nice so I acted civil.“Your Majesty bought you set of clothes, shoes, and jewelries, Miss Eve. Would you want to see because we go to your chamber?” Lilienne asked after I finished my meal.He brought me stuff? My brows puckered.“Take them to my chamber. I’ll see it,” I told Liliene, before I turned my back on the table.I was about to let Lilienne take me to my assigned room, when I came across a woman wearing a yellow victorian dress, with pearl necklace and earrings.“Genevieve Lamperogue. The one my husband bought from the Gibbous Pack, I suppose?” She asked, looking at me maliciously with a fan on her right hand. She had brunette hair. Tan skin. Small nose. Almond eyes, and heart shaped lips. I didn’t have to stare long to recognize her beauty. She was ethereal. Her face feautures looked soft and mesmerizing that painters probably loved re-creating her beauty on canvas. I could see from the way she stood and present herself that she was a noble. One that was used on extravagant things. She was probably a woman with grace, and sophistication. So, this is Declan’s wife. ‘Still, I don’t like her tone, Even,’ said Lexi. I properly placed my hands below my abdomen, and lightly lowered my head to show respect. Though I was also a noble myself, as an Alpha’s daughter, I was standing in their territory. “Greetings, Your Highness.” “Have you and Declan already talk about your set up?” She asked straight away. I stood straight and nodded. “We agreed on doing it twice a week, Your Highness.” “Twice a week?” Her eyes became dark. “Isn’t that a lot? He also needs to share a bed with me.” If I could
The Queen, Devra moved away the second she heard Declan’s voice. The muscle of her face relaxed, like she wasn’t just fuming mad a few seconds ago. I took my time to scanned it, before my gaze shifted at Declan.“N-nothing, my love. I was just checking up on Eve because she looked… pale.” Devra made up a lie.The Queen’s tone was soft. So was the expression on her face. She looked flustered, but in a non-malicious way. If I was Declan, I’d definitely believed her. She was too good, and her expression were fatally deceiving. Was she always like this in front of her own husband?Declan’s eyes moved at me after Devra spoke. He smoothly closed the distance with his steps, and stopped within a few meters. His Lycan smell was reeking… but so was his natural scent.I lowered down my head to greet him, before I looked up to meet his eyes. “Good Evening, Your Majesty.”“I apologize for leaving you alone in the carriage, Genevieve. I had an urgent meeting.” Declan formally apologize, with his e
My heart contorted. I didn’t know if he was playing games with me, or he was flirting even though he didn’t look like it, but I was taken aback. I felt… conscious. I backed down immediately. Fell silent, and dealt with the lump on my throat.I didn’t know what to respond. I mean, what did he mean when he said I was what he wanted? Why? How? I didn’t even know his face until last week. I didn’t meet him until then. Certainly, he was the same, so how?I wasn’t able to answer him.“About our schedule, let’s make it Saturday and Sunday,” he said when I failed to respond for the next seconds. It was probably what he wanted to talk about. Our schedule set-up.“Monday and Saturday, Declan.” I suggested, remembering what Devra said. “Let’s do it on Mondays and Saturdays.”I disliked the Queen’s behavior a while ago. I was sure she knew this wasn’t my decision, but my father and Declan. I understood where she was coming from, but it was unfair on my part. Regardless, she had the right to feel
I didn’t want to believe it.I did not want to believe I came here to work like a damn maid. Knowing that I would have to sleep with the King was already a pain, why would I have to help the servants cook, clean, and assist the Queen? I was a concubine in exchange for the treaty. Concubine! Not to mention I was the future mother of this clan’s heir, too. That should mean something big!“Miss Eve, you don’t have to do this.” Lilienne tried to get the mop from my hand, but I dodged it.“Believe me, Lilienne. I also don’t want to do this.” I shook my head, before I continued mopping.Lilienne, the other servant named Karen, and I were cleaning near the stairs. We just finished cooking, washing the dishes, and eating. Thought it was the only thing I had to do, but it turned out I also had to do the servants’ routine and work with them, literally. The Queen wasn’t just exagerrating when she said I had a lot of things to do. Because after this, I also have to wash the Queen’s clothes, clean
Lilienne delivered me my meal. She also gave me medicine for my body pain, despite not verbally asking it. The meal was not enough for the kind of work I did today, but it was better than nothing. I thought of it as the brighter side, and stuff myself. Lilienne watched me eat. She attempted to talk to me, perhaps to lift up the mood, and entertain me but I did not allow it. I would always just respond in a word or two. I wasn’t in the mood to talk. I clearly expressed that. I was gathering myself, thinking how it would be tomorrow. How I would save myself, at least for the days the King wasn’t here. I cannot sit still after what I heard. And I certainly cannot die here. “Is there anything you want, Miss Eve?” Lilienne asked as she keep the utensils and plate that I used. “Do you want to take a bath? I’ll make sure the water is warm for you to be relaxed.” Taking a bath with a lukewarm water would surely help. But I was still exhausted. I didn’t think I could still walk towards the b
“I had been looking for you, Declan.” The Queen’s eyes were careful. Cautious. Her eyes went directly to the King, scrutinizing him. “You don’t have any schedule with Eve today, do you?” She was worried. But I knew she was more than that on the inside. The way she was avoiding my eyes, like she was trying to ignore my patience was a subtle indication that she was holding back. She was angry. And I was starting to calculate how much work that would put me in tomorrow. “I was just about to leave,” the King casually said, as he turned to her. “Why are you here? Did I not tell you not to come into her room once she enter?” The Queen’s gaze hardened. I could not help but look down on her hands, to see what kind of reaction it would make. Her fingers folded, just as what I was expecting. The veins on it showed, before I saw her hid it behind her. Then, she plastered a smile on her soft pinkish lips. “I wanted to come see you. I.. have missed you.” The Queen hesitated. She probably wasn’
My heart raced. I looked at the King’s eyes, trying to search for even a single, and small validation that he was only testing me to spill everything. I swallowed hard. I was afraid to the core that I could no longer hid it. My legs weakened. My arms started shaking. My heart was beating so loud I’d feel like it’d break my ribcage. “I’ll die either way…” My voice almost broke. “Your Queen has gone mad, Declan. I heard from the servants that there was someone else before me. She died, and it was why you looked for a replacement. It was why you asked for me in ex-change for the treaty.” His jaw tauted. “Is she doing the same thing to you?” “Yes…” I deeply inhaled, before I looked down. “I’d probably die sooner than I expected.” “You won’t.” Declan released me. His face turned dark. “Once was enough.” Declan turned his back on me, once again. My heart jumped from extreme fear. I wanted to know what he meant by that. Once was enough? Did that mean he was going to do something? I ment
I froze on my spot. I felt like my heart sank. I understood what he said, but it was too good to be true that I couldn’t help but be stupefied. He was granting me the rights of the Queen? Was that even possible? I was just a mistress, how could he possibly bestow me such power and responsibility… ‘I told you. You could trust him.’ Lexi said. ‘Now, your safety is secured.’ “D-declan…” I uttered his name. I didn’t even care if there were a lot watching. I wasn’t frightened by the fact that they might kill me right on the spot for calling their King by his name. I was more focused on him. Why would he strip off the Queen’s rights to give it to me? Did he really intend to give it to me? To stop Devra from her evil plans? To secure my safetyness? Wouldn’t that put him in a tight position? She was a Queen. His followers might not like it. What if they object? The King’s men turned to him, as if asking for confirmation. I wasn’t sure what it was for but when Declan nodded, they all nodde
