Chapter 6: ‘Good boy’

*LYCIA*

“Were you always such a pervert or did it change with that memory loss?” I asked exasperated at what happened this morning.

“Hey, I already told you, it wasn’t my fault. I didn’t have any clothes to wear,” he said looking through the bags of new clothes I had bought for him.

“So you thought lying naked on my bed was the most natural thing to do?” I asked, unable to understand how he could be so nonchalant about everything.

“Yes, you are my mate, why should I be shy about showing my body to you,” he said with a smile on his face as he brought up a t-shirt in front of him. “Besides I am all yours, my body included.”

“No, thank you. I don’t need you to be mine,” I said feeling awkward at the talk of the mates. I could see that he was being hopeful but there was no way I would ever accept him and every time he brought this up it only made me feel guilty somehow.

It was stranger because I was more worried about this stranger getting his feelings hurt than I was ever with my other friends who I had known for years and then dumped after a day.

Suddenly he stood up. The smile was missing from his face and his eyes looked darker for a second as they pierced through me almost forcing me to look away from the intensity they consisted of. I somehow resisted and stood my ground as the air grew heavier around me with the reducing gap between us.

“You might not agree with me but Lycia, your body is more honest, see how well it fits against mine,” he said pressing his abdomen and chest against me and I could feel the warmth seeping through him along with the burst of butterflies at the glowing heat spreading through the parts where we touched.

“You are not the first one to say that,” I muttered, matching his glare, not wanting to submit to the superiority he had over my body because of the mate bond. It was cynical how it had the ability to gather my attention to him and make me swoon over him endlessly.

Why does a goddess even have to interfere in who she wants to pair up with him? Are we toys to her?

Dear Goddess Wicca, if you know The Moon Goddess then could you please ask her to let me out of this weird play date she has set for me?

He growled slightly, taking offense to that statement and bringing his lips close to mine he breathed against it as he said, “I will make sure that I am the last then.”

I knew if I spoke then I would risk touching our lips, the flutters his smell was causing my heart was already too much to take but staring straight into his dark blue eyes I said, “You can try.”

As expected the words caused my lips to brush against his and thanks to his hands still wrapped around my body, the electrifying tension between us was making me lose my strength to take it any longer than this.

The ringtone of my phone sliced through the sexual tension between us and turning my head to look at my phone I saw that it was my best friend calling. Bringing the phone to my ear with the use of magic I answered the call and taking this as his cue Wolfie backed away.

“When are you coming to my place to get ready?” Esme asked, making me look at the clock on the wall.

“In about twenty minutes?” I said wondering if it would take longer to sneak out of the house with Wolfie.

“I hope you completed those potions your mom wanted or you’ll be grounded again,” she reminded me of the consequences of my irresponsibility. My mother had sealed me in my room last time for a whole week to teach me the precious lessons on responsibility and obedience.

“Don't worry I made them all successfully and also have a nod of her approval,” I boasted, coming from my stoic mother that was more than enough.

“Great then meet you soon,” she said and then cut the call making me fill the prospect of booze and dancing all night long, away from my problems, on my priority list.

“Are you going somewhere?” Wolfie asked, looking at me from where he was seated on the sofa.

“Yes,” I said excitedly, putting the phone in my pocket as I watched his face fall while he brought up his knees and tucked them under his chin. There was a frown on his face as he watched me get ready and if it was anybody else I would have taken my time teasing them for that wimpy expression of need on their face, feeding my ego but somehow watching him look unhappy made me sad too.

“What’s with your face?” I asked not wanting him to realize that I cared for him.

At my words directed at him he pulled up his face from where they were resting on his knees and asked, “What’s wrong with my face?”

“It looks ugly this way so why are you frowning?” I asked awkwardly trying to make him realize how transparent he was being with his emotions. It was almost as if he had been a dog in reality. Like a pet who drops in his joyousness when their master leaves them home alone.

“I don’t want to stay here alone without you,” he said and I was glad that he said it, this way it wouldn’t seem like I had been caring about him to bring him out with me.

“Well if you promise to listen to me and be a good boy then I will give you a reward,” I said using the voice that I usually used when playing with animals. His brows further frowned at my tone but before he could say anything else I tossed him a t-shirt to wear and listening to my unsaid command he followed through as I had asked him to.

“Alright I’ll be turning you into a dog now to sneak you out of the house,” I said and once again before he could even argue with me on it I had turned him into the adorable husky form that he had donned before.

“If I had more time then I would have played with you but let’s get out of the house first,” I said, opening the door and leading him down the stairs towards the back door through the kitchen.  I had almost been steps away from my freedom when suddenly I heard my Dad call out to me.

“Lycia? Are you going somewhere?” he asked and when his eyes fell on the dog I saw him perk up and say, “So this is the new pet that your mother had been talking about?”

My father was an animal lover too, not as big as me but still enough to make him want to pet and play with them for a few minutes. Knowing this nature of his I was well aware that if he was to play with Wolfie right now it was quite probable that he would transform into a human in front of him.

Besides, it would be really weird for my dad to cuddle and play with my mate’s body. He might not know this but it would be really awkward to think that my dad was cuddling with a full grown man. An image popped in my head and before my father could crouch to pet Wolfie I picked him up in my arms and said, “I am sorry Dad but Wolfie isn’t very friendly to strangers except me. He was hurt before so he doesn’t trust anyone easily. Please don’t touch him or come near him.”

He looked disappointed at my words and I felt bad for making him feel this way but what else could I do except this. My dad was the opposite of my strict controlling mother so hurting him made me feel worse.

“Alright but can you give some kisses and pats to that little guy from my side?” he asked and even though I didn’t want to do it in front of my Dad I stroked Wolfie’s fur and scratched his chin while also kissing his head.

“Aww he is so cute,” dad fawned and feeling the ticking of time passing with every second in my mind like a time bomb ready to explode, I nodded and shifted closer to the back door.

“Well I’ll take my leave now. I was taking him for a walk and I don’t want to make him wait too long. I’ll be back home late, okay?” I said and nodding at me my dad smiled and I bolted out of there. Running a few paces away from my house and into the woods I finally let Wolfie down at a safe distance.

A minute later he transformed.

“Phew, that was clos-” I had only started to say when I was lifted off the ground. A yelp escaped me but even that was swallowed in an intense kiss that Wolfie gave me. The close encounter before and the run after had made me breathless already and with the kiss taking away what little oxygen I had was making my lungs burn and strangely enough it was addicting in its own way.

When he finally let go of my lips I was in a daze both from the lack of oxygen and the mind blowing kiss full of pin pricking pleasure all over my body.

“W-What was that for?” I huffed, my words barely coming out as he finally let me down from his arms making me uncurl my legs from around his torso and to the shaky grass covered ground below.

“Just getting my reward for being a ‘Good boy’,” he said, making me about to argue with him on that but this time he didn’t give me a chance to say anything as he continued with a more somber expression, “And to remind you that I am not just a dog.”

Somehow I sensed something off in that sentence, it felt heavy and burdensome on my heart when he said that and I didn’t want to dig any further in it especially with that expression on his face.

Of course I knew that he wasn’t a dog so why did he have to say it like that?

“Your reward of being a good boy was the freedom to enjoy the evening as you like,” I clarified, answering to his first remark.

“Why, so that you can go to the party? Does this belong to your lover’s?” he asked, making me stop and stare at him.

“How did you know that?” his expression fell when I confirmed what he had doubted.

“Why do you seem to always forget that as a lycan I can smell and hear better,” he grumbled and looked away. I realized that he must have listened to the conversation I had with Travis this morning when he was in the shower. I could tell that he was jealous and I wished that he would take this as a warning and keep his distance from me.

Maybe this was a good opportunity for me to set boundaries between us.

“Yes, I am going to my crush’s party so don’t think about us ever actually becoming mates. I don’t like you,” I said and somehow turning him down was almost as difficult for me as it should be for him. His expression was honestly cutting wounds in my heart and looking away I clicked my fingers and said, “The warlocks and witches don’t have a very good sense of smell so no one will realize you are a lycan as long as you do not transform in front of them or change your eye colors. Still I want to be more careful so I am masking your smell, so go spend the whole evening as a human. Here take this money.”

Bringing out a few notes I used my magic to stuff them in his jeans knowing well enough that after how I had hurt him he would probably deny taking them. Still not meeting my eyes or even hearing him say a word I said, “Curfew is twelve so be here by then and I’ll turn you into a dog to sneak you back in. Don’t be late and remember not to cause any trouble for me. I’ll be going then.”

Saying that I walked away at once but a small piece of me was begging me to turn back and look at him once and when I did I saw him standing there looking down with a dark expression on his face.

My heart ached at the hurt he couldn't hide but I needed to make him be aware of the reality.

A reality in which the two of us could never be together.
