Womanly Poise

As the knock on the door – much louder than the previous ones, jerked me back to reality, I turned to the door and walked towards it. I was in shock now, trembling in fear of what I thought could be the end of me and my mission there. Surely if I am already busted and all my plans were revealed, I would not leave the mansion alive. I knew that, and now it was probably too late to escape. My mind drifted to the imagination of what might be done to me. Perhaps I would be locked up somewhere in the manor and tortured till death. I decided, even wished, that if it ever came to that, I would make my escape then. I had already studied the entire compound and knew perfectly well about sixty percent of it so it should be easy for me, I thought.
