2 days later…
It’s been two days since Nico came home after that night, the remnants of which still kind of haunted me. No phone call. Not even a text. He couldn’t be bothered. And it feels like it has been an eternity since I heard from Maximus as well. Maybe my proposal didn’t get accepted after all.
And Maximus did warn me of that.
I sighed, stared at the doodle on my iPad and grimaced. What the fuck was that? I was trying to get some designs done…just in case. But even after wrecking my mind for the last two days, all I had was a doodle of a hamburger. Every time I tried to focus and think, all I could see was Nico clipping off that man’s fingers and enjoying it, his face and body splattered in blood stains. And all I could hear was his harsh, unfiltered words….
“Then you’re just setting yourself up for more disappointment. And you can’t say that I didn’t warn you.”
“You’re wrong. Because I have hurt an innocent, Gianna.”
Who has he hurt? What was he talking about? What secrets did Nicholas Baldocchi hide from me and maybe the world? I also wanted to see what was in that locked room upstairs. But I couldn’t find the keys anywhere, and no amount of kicking and shoving made it budge. I shook my head and threw the iPad away from me. Maybe I needed a drink or something. Maybe I should go see my mother. I missed her. Or Vittoria, for that matter. Two lonely souls definitely would find some kindling.
I sat up and decided to make myself some chamomile tea first when my phone started to vibrate. The screen glowed with a name I really wasn’t expecting to see anymore—Maximus.
What does he want?
I took a deep breath, squared my shoulders and then picked up the call.
“Hello?” I said, trying to sound cool and detached.
“Hi Gianna,” his voice, as usual, was smooth, charming and laced with confidence. “I hope you haven’t forgotten me yet?”
“You don’t have a very forgettable personality, unfortunately, Mr. Vanucci,” I replied sweetly. And for some reason, I could almost sense his grin.
“That flatters me,” he said, his tone playful. “Now, I’m sure you are very busy, as am I, so I will get to the point…”
“I didn’t get it, did I?” I murmured. “You can be honest.”
“If you want me to be honest, then I hope to see you tomorrow,” Maximus said. “Because there is some paperwork you need to sign and some groundwork to be cleared before we can get started. And there isn’t much time to waste because we have got a very tight window on when this project goes live.” I stared blankly at nothing in particular.
What did he just say?
“Wh…what?” I mumbled. “What do you mean?”
“You were finalized for the project, Gianna. The investment committee loved your designs and your ideas. We would like to move forward with the deal. You will get an official email, but I thought I would let you know first.”
No fucking way.
“You’re not kidding, right? Because this would be a really bad joke.”
“Do you think I have the time to call random people and joke with them?”
“No…I…I just can’t believe it,” I whispered, flopping down on the couch. “I could only hope to make it…this is…this is insane. Thank you so much!”
“Don’t thank me. You have vision, and Bellavanti appreciates and honors that,” he said. “Now, to make things move faster, there are some legal matters that need to be dealt with. Can I see you tomorrow for lunch? I will text you the address to my place.” I frowned.
“I am not meeting you at your office?” I asked, trying not to let my skepticism seep through my words.
“Tomorrow is Saturday. I don’t make my employees work on weekends, though my legal advisor and someone from the committee will be present, so there’s an exception to that. But if you are worried about meeting me alone, rest assured, we will not be alone. Yet,” I bit my lip, wanting to kick myself for being so stupid. If we were to work together, I needed to show a bit more trust in Maximus.
“I will be there,” I said. “Just text me the address and time.”
“Great, see you tomorrow then,”
“I look forward to it,” I said.
“Me too, Gianna.” There was something in the way he said that that made me squirm. And I was glad when he hung up first.
But fuck…this was happening. My biggest dream was happening. At this moment, I wanted nothing more than to share the news with Nico. So I picked up my phone and dialed his number…
“The number you’re calling is currently switched off.”
A sting of disappointment crashed over me as the operator's voice came through the other side. I cut the call and shook my head. No, I was not going to let my failing marriage take away from my happiness. My biggest dream was about to come true. My life was about to change completely.
Just not the way I was expecting it to be.
Gianna“I can’t believe we are really doing this,” Teresa grinned as we drove to Maximus’s place for lunch the next afternoon. “This is incredible!”“It’s a bit…crazy,” I murmured. “I mean, what were the odds of me running into him at the party and then all this…”“Running into his arms…” Tess smirked. “It’s fate, baby.”“I guess,” I shrugged.“So, when do you plan to tell others?” she asked. “I have no idea why you haven’t told them yet.”“I just want to get it all absolutely finalized,” I said. “Leo will freak out, so I need to kind of create the ambience before I tell him.”“And what about Nico?” I didn’t like that look in her eyes—like I was some wounded puppy. So I just kept my face blank and shrugged again.“I tried to call him, but he didn’t pick up. I haven’t seen or heard from him in three days,” I said.“What?” Teresa exclaimed. “But why? Where is he?”“I have no idea. We…we had sex and well…things spiraled from there.” It was embarrassing to say out loud. Even to my best f
Gianna“I…I am so sorry about that.”“Yeah,” he muttered nonchalantly. “I barely remember them anyway.”“And why is someone like you still single?” I couldn’t stop myself from blurting that out because honestly, how the fuck was someone like him single anway? “Sorry…I overstepped…” I added as he raised a brow at me.“Are you trying to confirm if I am gay?” he smirked, folding his arms across his chest. “Like your friend suspected?” My face heated up, and I reflexively bit my lip, averting my gaze. So he did hear that.Damn you, Tess.“I am not gay…Gianna,” Maximus breathed, leaning close enough that his minty breath fanned my face. “Had you not been married…I would have gladly proven that to you.” I blinked at him.Was he saying what I think he was saying?“What?” I croaked.“I am single because I haven’t found anyone worth investing my time and emotions in…yet,” he said, moving back. “Most women I meet want me either for my money, my connections or simply just someone hot to fuck the
Gianna AmmassariThe evening felt like a dream. As I stepped out of the sleek black car, I caught my reflection in the glass doors and blushed at the sight. My emerald green Valentino dress hugged me in all the right places, making me feel like I belonged beside Nico Baldocchi—the leader of one of Sicily’s most powerful mafia families and soon to be my husband.Nico stepped out behind me, and the sight of him stole my breath. He was dressed in a sharp black suit that fit him perfectly, accentuating his tall, broad frame. Every inch of him reflected the power and dominance he held as the man who commanded one of the most feared mafia families in Italy. But it was his eyes that captivated me the most. Dark, intense, and always so unreadable, holding so many secrets.“Gianna,” he said, holding out his hand, his voice smooth and commanding, sending a shiver down my spine.I took his arm, my fingers lightly brushing again
Gianna2 years laterI stood in front of the full-length mirror, not quite recognizing the woman who stared back. My eyes felt tired, and my entire face showed telltale signs of exhaustion. My jaw ached from smiling so much throughout the day. Just a few hours ago, I married the man of my dreams—Nicholas Baldocchi. The wedding was like a fairytale, or so everyone thought. My brothers, Leonardo and Xavier, hired the best wedding planners in the country, shelling out millions of dollars to make sure today was perfect. A vineyard in Tuscany, a Monique Lhuillier dress that fit like it was stitched from starlight, and a guest list boasting Italy’s most powerful. But for all its perfection, this marriage was anything but.The reality of our marriage crashes over me like a wrecking ball every time it crosses my mind. My only peace lies in remembering how crucial this union was for both our families. Besides, despite everyth
Nico“The jet is ready, capo,” I rubbed my face, fighting the exhaustion that threatened to get the best of me, and turned my eyes to Caelian, his expression impassive as always.Caelian Rizza was my underboss—my right-hand man and the only person I could truly call a friend. I trusted him implicitly. Despite his rugged, bad-boy exterior, he was a very grounded man. Like me, life had put him through the wringer. The only difference was that he emerged into the light, while I chose the darkness.“Good,” I nodded. “We will be ready to leave in fifteen. Any news yet?” Caelian’s expression turned somber as he gave me a small nod. But before he could speak, the door opened and Domani, my advisor, and my next most trusted man after Caelian walked in, his expression dark.“Morning capo,” he murmured, giving me a bow of his head.“Any news?” I repeated, my eyes flitting between the two.“The stolen shipment was tracked,” Ca
GiannaI hated how my body softened when Nico placed his hand on my back, his fingers gripping me firmly. After last night, anyone with a shred of self-respect wouldn't even look at him. Hell, the sting of rejection still echoed in my mind. All Nico saw in me was someone he could fuck without a problem but not someone worthy enough of his love. I should go and drown myself in the Mediterranean for having such a weak sense of self-worth. But it was like where Nico was concerned, everything just went straight out of the window. My body reacted to his touch on its own, and I had no control over it. It was pathetic.“What’s wrong?” Nico’s deep voice distracted me from my train of thought.“Huh?” I frowned.“You just sighed so deeply. Are you feeling okay?” I was surprised he noticed something so small. The genuine concern in his voice brought a faint smile to my lips.“No, nothing,” I shook my head. “I just feel a bit tired, that's all. Let’s go. We shouldn’t keep your staff waiting.” Nic
Gianna “Yes, Daria…yes, I will be there. No, no change in schedule…yes, that will be all,” I watched Nico from beneath my lashes as he cut the call, his jaw tensed. He seemed agitated and restless for some reason. I have been watching him shuffle between a million calls all through the way. Something was wrong. Earlier this morning, I heard his conversation with Caelian—“This is the third shipment that was destroyed. And your excuse is that you are looking into this?” I couldn’t understand any of it, but whatever it was, it didn’t sound good.“Is everything okay?” I asked once he cut the call. We landed a few moments ago, Nico barely saying a word to me throughout the flight, other than asking me to eat something.“Yes, just work,” he muttered, fidgeting with his cell phone. “Nothing for you to worry about.”I pursed my lips, wanting to argue that whatever concerned him concerned me too. I was his wife now. But I didn’t want to enforce that part constantly just so he could open up t
NicoGianna was playing with fire and she was going to get burned.“I will destroy you if you allow me to get closer, Gianna,” I warned and I meant every word. But somehow my gorgeous wife didn’t seem to be in the mood to listen. There was a determined glint in her eyes when she stepped closer and kissed me. It was brief, just a soft brush of her lips but it evoked something inside me that suddenly wanted more. More of that sweet, warm taste of her.I was never a man driven by physical desires. Never. Control was always my greatest strength, something I prided myself on. But even the most controlled man has his needs. And Gianna, well, she wasn’t exactly helping. Her soft, feminine innocence stirred something dark within me. The way she looked up at me, so shy and submissive, ignited thoughts I shouldn’t entertain. But this was Gianna…I kept reminding myself that every time she was close. She deserved better than just wild sex.I’d rather jerk off in the shower than use her body to sa

Gianna The scream was terrifying enough to freeze my blood. My eyes shot open and fell straight on the ceiling, the LED lights embedded in it still twinkling. I just lay there, my heart hammering in my chest so loud that I could hear it.“You’re up,”I blinked twice at his familiar voice and then sat up at lightning speed, my body tensing up as we both stared at each other. Nico stood by the bed, a glass of orange juice in hand, and he was still in those low-hanging jeans. Thankfully, there was no more blood splattered across his face and body.“You’re running out of fingers.”Bile crept up my throat as the memories slammed into me. What he did to that man… I didn’t know how to erase the images now seared into my mind. I knew Nico was deemed as deadly but I didn’t know he was capable of…that.“Drink,” h
NicoDomani got it bad. I grimaced at all the blood pooling through his black T-shirt and the beads of sweat trickling down his forehead. His face was red too, jaw clenching as Caelian pressed his jacket into the wound harder.“What the fuck were you thinking?” I hissed, glaring at him.“There was no other choice…he would…have escaped,” he croaked before coughing out a mouthful of blood.“Leo and I were there,” I snapped.“You were out…numbered…argh..” he groaned in pain again, his eyes red. I pinched the bridge of my nose, trying to keep my calm.Domani was right—we were outnumbered. Leo and I couldn’t take on the men stashed in those damn containers alone. We held our ground, nearly lost the target, the guy who was barking orders, until Domani stepped in. He took two bull
GiannaCaelian leaned against the doorway, arms crossed, looking way too entertained for someone who had just eavesdropped on a very personal conversation. Why does he always sneak up like that?He pushed off the frame, walking toward us. “I have to say, I never thought I’d see the day someone tried to outmaneuver Nico Baldocchi in a game of control.” His gaze flicked to me, considering. “But it might just work.”Teresa’s eyes narrowed. “Who the fuck are you?”“Caelian Rizza. Nico’s right hand,” Caelian’s lips twitched in amusement as he inclined his head slightly “Apologies for overhearing, but your conversation was…hard to ignore.”“Well, enjoyed the show, did you?” Teresa huffed, crossing her arms.“Immensely,” Caelian smirked.“Great. Another smug bastard,” she rolled her eyes.“I am sorry…I do not want to intervene,” he muttered, turning to me and ignoring Teresa’s comment. “But as Nico’s best friend…I do feel this plan can work.”“And why would you think that?” I asked, raising
Gianna“Don’t worry, you did great, and your ideas are amazing,” Teresa reassured me, her eyes scanning through my portfolio. “Seriously, you’ve got some incredible concepts here.” I pushed my plate of food around absentmindedly and shrugged.“It doesn’t matter how great they are if the funding committee at Bellavanti doesn’t like them,” I muttered, my gaze flickering to my phone for what felt like the hundredth time.I knew it was too early to expect a response from Maximus, but the anxiety was starting to take hold. This was a massive opportunity, and I wanted it so badly. I could have Leo talk to Maximus, but that didn’t feel right. Plus, as Maximus said, the decision rested with the committee.“They’ll love it. I’m sure of it,” Teresa said confidently. “And damn his place looks amazing. You really hit the jackpot with Nicholas, huh?”I blinked at her, unsure how to respond. She was visiting me for lunch, and then we’d go over some business before I headed to Amara’s for dinner. Ni
NicoDomani was right on time.I stared at the twenty-four-page document and cracked my neck. Time to get to work.Name: Maximus Emanuele Vanucci Age: 29Blood group: B+ Sunsign: ScorpioHeight: 6’2Father Name: Renzo Salvatore Vanucci I read word for word of each page twice, and two hours and two cups of black coffee later, I was done. And disappointed.Maximus Vanucci was the CEO and owner of Bellavanti, the global fashion brand. He has fucking featured in numerous prestigious magazines over the years, ranked #1 in Forbes 30 under 30 list and was also named the ‘Most Eligible Bachelor In UK’ for four consecutive years straight. And that was just the icing on his qualifications, experience, awards and those goddam
NicoGianna was doing squats using weights, and because I was standing behind her I got the honor to enjoy a first class view of her fine ass. She wore those sexy tight gym pants and sports bra and my cock threatened to jump to attention every time she did a squat and then came up. I couldn’t stop myself from imagining how it would feel if she moved up and down my cock like that. Would that feel just as good as she felt last night?“Fuck,” Gianna hissed and I noticed her posture was wrong. She can get a sprain that way. I pushed the door open fully and stepped inside, and amidst the music and her struggle, she didn’t hear me.“Your posture is wrong,” I murmured, my voice low as I came up behind her. Gianna stiffened but didn’t stop.“I don’t need your help,” she muttered, her tone sharp. Of course, she was still mad at me. And rightfully so.Ignoring her protest, I slid my hands around her bare waist, feeling the warmth of her skin under my palms. She sucked in a sharp breath, but I d
